Women's rights general conversations - Thread 4

Continuation of Thread 3.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

We're fucked. Not going to stop fighting, but they are really just rolling back our rights.

StephanieSuperpowers · 01/04/2023 21:26

Sometimes I feel like we just need to withdraw from public life and let the chips fall.

Please read the comments for light entertainment. Irish Minister for children Roderic O Gorman tweeted "there's no lgb without the t" yesterday. The lgb community handed him his balls on a plate. The comments are fantastic (he's a gay man by the way, should know his constituicy better)

Another GC academic is going to court:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4776028-dr-laura-favaro-is-taking-city-university-to-an-employment-tribunal

Dr. Laura Favaro is the author of the Times Higher Ed article on gender wars in academia that came out last year:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4634273-times-article-on-academia?page=1

She has since been hounded out of her job at City University.

She gave a seminar not so long ago for the OU Gender Critical Research Network, which I attended and it was fascinating. However, City is now denying her access to her own bloody data, not just silencing her voice (and of course punishing her economically) but trying to stop GC women from building a body of knowledge. If anyone has some spare seeds they can sow….

Reading your link, Crows, I wouldn't trust Brendan O'Neil and the Spiked crew further than I could throw them, but of course he's spot-on about this. Although I doubt if anyone cares very much what the Communist Party thinks. But perhaps it gives a voting option at least! 😀Although probably not in the upcoming local elections. I was wondering earlier if I could bring my self to vote Labour in the locals. I certainly shan't be doing so in a GE, unless things change drastically.

SinnerBoy · 02/04/2023 02:06

I read the O'Gorman thread last night, it's not a ratio, it's a massacre. It's surely a good sign that so many people are ripping him and the ideology in general.

Perhaps other populations will take their politicians to task, similarly. Whether they take notice or not is another thing, when you look at some of our Labour ones, pretending they've never heard any objections to TWAW and self ID.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 02/04/2023 02:28

I was just pleased to see someone make the link with neo liberal capitalism and transgenderism. It's very much an instance of follow the money and there's a shit load of money to be made from the deluded and vulnerable. I hope that sometime soon we look back at this as a crazy moment in our history. A bit like clackers or deely boppers only infinitely more damaging and clackers were pretty damn dangerous.

Well, that's depressing.

OTOH it seems clear that the Righteous are urgently accelerating this agenda in part because people worldwide are waking up (see the reviewing of child affirmation/puberty blockers in many countries, the pushback from women's groups and the general public worldwide). The Dentons strategy of under-the-radar is starting to fail, and so the Righteous have to try and rush these things into place quickly - because then they'll be able to point to XYZ Official Declarations and Paperwork and say "Haha!!! Now it'll be impossible to undo it so suck on my lady!"

Huge money to be made with the pharmaceutical companies who are behind it all.

Ah, I'll plant a few carrots.

I remember her article in THE. Exiles from the Old Place may recall it too, because we linked to it there and (as I had regularly predicted) the Righteous response was the classic combination of <crickets> and discreditation.

I’ve posted this on a couple of other threads already but Sam Harris has (finally) made an unequivocal contribution.

He’s 100 percent on side with JK Rowling and the Terves.

Ooh my message was hidden - archive link, I'd forgotten. But the lead article on the Times/Sunday Times app today is an interview with Starmer headed "Trans rights can't override women's rights".

Imarealwoman · 02/04/2023 10:59

@SqueakyDinosaur excellent. That's a very strong headline. The mainstream media know the tide has turned & are finally waking up that women's rights & spaces should not be taken over by an army of bearded men with dresses, handbags, nutsacks & penises!

Hmm. Has he had a fit of the vapours?

duc748 · 02/04/2023 12:00

Another thread of Starmer weasel words. Don't trust him an inch. And of course it's not just him. All the Labour Party bigwigs are the same.

SqueakyDinosaur · 02/04/2023 14:38

I must say I'd feel more convinced if he'd met up with Rosie Duffield on a recent trip to Kent.

Winterborne74 · 02/04/2023 15:02

l find it completely shocking how much of a hate figure Rosie Duffield has become. It’s extraordinary and people seem to have no filters in the things they say about her. Any lie is excusable and believable because she is axiomatically an utter monster. Any banal utterance becomes unspeakably awful because of who said it. And she has forfeited any expectation of basic standards of humanity and decency by refusing to be intimidated.

And the Labour Party machine seems to consider her a problem to be ignored.
