I have been mulling this thread over and questioning to myself how we got to this point. It should be obvious that erotic acts in bright daylight with very little room dressing or ambiance is a really crap idea, totally and utterly inappropriate for children and humiliating for the performers.
There is definitely a demand for new parents to be able to chill out, listen to music - be entertained together- have a bit of a laugh, I can see that dance routines, vocalists, light shows, all sorts could work. But this thing. Why would anyone think that erotic table-dancing derived acts would be a good fit?
The answer I am leaning towards is media grooming - for a good few years now, whenever I would open up BBC iplayer, Ru Paul’s Drag Race would be in my face, Butterfly, Desmond is Amazing, loads of what I consider to be sexualised gender propaganda. On family shows like Britains Got Talent, there are acts which push the envelope. I did find it quite an onslaught, although in recent months it’s not so bad.
Maybe these parents couldn’t see how sexualised it is because they are desensitised and it seems normal?
