Shende pled guilty according to the link:
”Shende admitted four counts of distributing indecent images of children, one of possession of indecent images and four of making indecent images. She was handed a two-year imprisonment suspended for two years.”

Seems like an issue with sentencing guidelines to me.

Newspapers (well, most of them) are getting very good at circumventing the compelled language by including pictures that show the truth.

I have been following this and discussing on other threads. It is only today, a day after originally publishing, that the Echo amended a quote from the judge, tucked away at the bottom, to mention transition AT ALL.

So it must have been an editorial decision to deliberately ignore reality the elephant in the room here. What for?

I also wonder if that is how they avoided a custodial sentence, nobody wanting to address the issue of where they would be sent.

I was reading another Twitter thread where India Willoughby was getting all 'do you look in the pants of transwomen to check' or some pish like that. It's clear just by looking at the face what sex they are. No nether regions have to be looked at to confirm.

It's not necessarily a trans shield. Very few men convicted of possessing child sex abuse images are sent to prison.

Obviously the ridiculous thing here is referring to this vile man as a woman. I had hoped the business with the Scottish butcher might be the end of it.

i understand why the paper might not have wanted to use male pronouns etc, but why at least not avoid saying woman? They could have said “male found guilty of…” or “trans woman found guilty of …” or even “smithville resident found guilty of…”. However they chose to use the word woman in the title!

I seem to recall that recently that the Home Office had directed the police to start recording sex of perpetrator/convict by birth sex in crime statistics. It started for the Apr 22- Mar 23 statistics.

The only exception would be if they have a GRC could they be recorded as a different sex from birth sex. (Perhaps get this deleted later).

'Trans woman' would have been a start. Leaving that out - and not even mentioning transition anywhere in the original story - is just complete gaslighting.

While OP made a good point about outlets getting around guidelines by letting the picture do the work, I don't think that could have been the deliberate ploy here. (Although without the image nobody would have been any the wiser.)

There does appear to be, to the layman, an increasing pattern of judges avoiding sending men to prison where a trans identity is involved.
