Anyone who views or shares images of children being abused are themselves fueling the abuse and these children are again abused over and over again just by the images being viewed ! How do you not understand that ?! 🤯

Technically anyone who views child sex abuse images helps to abuse the child in the photo. The photos are produced for paedophiles to look at. If no-one looked there would be no market.

The viewer of these images is as guilty as the person with the camera.

Yes, as a consumer they are driving demand that causes abusers to abuse. That’s why it’s a crime to merely view, possess, or distribute abuse images. But it’s not the same as actually abusing the children and recording it.

How exactly are the victims abused over and over again just by someone else hundreds of miles away viewing the images of historic abuse? Sorry, but I’m a literal person and this doesn’t make sense, you cannot abuse a person all over again by without their knowledge viewing an image of abuse that happened to them in their past.

Sorry, but I disagree.

To me, it’s bit like saying everyone who has seen an ISIS execution/beheading video is just as guilty as the actual terrorists doing the murdering and videoing.

There is a distinction to be made between the abuser and the later consumers of images even though both are criminals and sick. It’s minimising what the abusers do/did to equate their actions to be just as guilty or bad as passive watchers are.

One is magnitudes worse than the other (from my point of view.)

@Onnabugeisha Onnabugeisha - can you not imagine how the abuse is compounded by knowing that thousands of other peadophiles are sharing images of your abuse, which incidentally are images of a crime scene, and getting off on it? Imagine how that feels, not only were you abused physically, it was photographed and filmed, and now is shared, sold, and comodified without your consent. Forever and ever, those images of abuse, pain and humilation will probably outlive you, and go on to fuel more and more abuse. Please just try to imagine, and be thankful that you do have to imagine it and don't know how it feels first hand.

That is not quite right. Images of children are frequently created to order by paedophiles. It is not reasonable to call such people passive as they are root cause of such material.

Those people may never be "abusers" in a physical sense. But they are not passive.

I feel nothing when a paedo clicks on an image of me, because I don’t know when it happens. All I know is the images are out there and will be long after I am dead and gone. I have had to accept this reality.

But to say future people seeing these are just as guilty and just as bad as the abusers who actually did that shit to me as a young child?! No, cannot agree. Living through the abuse and having the nightmares and flashbacks to this day is far far worse than living with the knowledge that people out there are still seeing it.

I know Geisha. I think our coping strategies have been different, maybe because our abuse was done differently, maybe our personalities. For me the knowledge that he produced them not for himself but to sell on for others to enjoy is what fuels my feelings of perpetual abuse.

Every time I read of a man like this, or even think of the subject of child abuse images I relive the flashbacks of those photos being taken. I'm back in the room at 7 pleading with him to stop.

It's part of the abuse knowing they exist. Knowing people will be jerking off to them. Knowing that was why he was taking them.

That was the only possible defence I could think of yesterday, when as I said upthread the original published version did not include the judge's comment about transition.

But today that comment was included. Indicating the journo indeed had it in his notes the whole time but did not consider it relevant to include. A pretty shocking and misleading omission.

So we know the dysphoria and transition was referred to in court, so there's surely nothing legally wrong in putting trans woman in the headline?

The court’s interpretation of ‘making’ indecent images is broad. The following can amount to making indecent images; opening an email attachment, downloading an indecent image, storing an image, and accessing a website where an indecent image “pops up".

Yes it is necessarily broad. The point of possession charges and the purpose is designed to capture many actions.

A common defence to possession of this material used to be accidental. That is made much harder by the scope of making.
