You’ve got to hand it to Gen Z!!

I know the whole transgender thing causes a lot of debate on Mumsnet. I’m not looking to stir that up here. But, regardless of where you stand, I think we all have to hand it to Gen Z for managing to freak out older generations so effectively.

Boomers spooked the Silent Generation with their love of rock n roll and the counterculture of the 60s.

Gen X framed the Boomers with acid house and rave.

Millennials were kinda lame as ‘hipster’ was little more than irony and beards.

Millennials and Gex thought they’d seen it all and were cool and tolerant.

But then came Gen Z who decided to disrupt the traditional thinking around gender. And all hell has broken loose. Gen X who thought of themselves as seriously tolerant have been massively freaked out!!!!

You have to hand it to Gen Z!!!

Ill be honest

there is one thing im ‘freaked’ out by….and I’m using freaked in the upset sense

and its not anything gen z are doing because, lets face it every generation thinks they are the first to think or do anything different, think they invented sex etc

So the thing im freaked out by is the horror stories about loss of sexual function due to drugs and operations.

the idea that some youngsters are persuaded into this and will never experience sex with someone you love or fancy the pants off of (as its supposed to be) upsets me, it ‘freaks me out’ that some adults who haven’t done this to themselves and never will think its fine and dandy

and before anyone thinks its a good idea to come on and educate me about this can A) look at my use of the word ‘some’ and B) don’t bother, I’m not interested in your personal and no doubt made up experience

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 12/02/2023 08:52

We aren’t defending female only spaces because we are ‘freaked out’ by transgender people. That’s your projection. Do YOU think transgender people are freaky?

And no, I am not tolerant of public dick wagglers (all of whom are male, some of whom identify as transgender).

My Nan (silent) Mum (boomer) & daughters (one z one alpha) are also intolerant of public dick wagglers so it’s not a generational thing.
The advent of the internet has made certainly made ‘flashing’ easier but young women don’t like unsolicited dick pics any more than older women do 🤷‍♀️

DarkDayforMN · 12/02/2023 09:07

You weren't as cool and tolerant as you through you were.

Personally, I’ve never thought myself to be “cool and tolerant” of male violence against women and girls and I’m proud of that. A movement that enables and excuses male violence in so many ways, from locking women up with rapists, to enabling convicted flashers to getting their dick out in front of kids with impunity, to labelling women’s words “literal violence” so that men feel entitled to respond with actual violence, is never going to be anything other than regressive. No matter how many young people are naive enough to join it.

RoseslnTheHospital · 12/02/2023 09:15

"Do you really think such a tiny number of people are going to “set back” womanhood because some of them present in a traditionally feminine way?"

No one thinks this. It's your projected misunderstanding. No one cares if male people want to present in a traditionally feminine way. It's the regressive claim that doing so makes them female and therefore in need of accessing female only spaces/resources that is the issue. And the aggressive way that this is pursued and the aggressive way that any discussion of this by women is objected to.

Baldieheid · 12/02/2023 09:19

Like a PP, I dont intend to become "cool and tolerant" of males colonising female single sex spaces. I don't think it's "cool and tolerant" to encourage teenagers to remove sexual and reproductive function, especially when many of those encouraging, like Rachel Levine, are middle aged fathers who transitioned late. I don't think it's "cool and tolerant" for TRAs to threaten older gay men like Fred Sergeant at a rally. I don't think it's "cool and tolerant" to shut some females out of society by refusing them the right to single sex facilities that their faith, experience or trauma require. I dont think it's "cool and tolerant" to behave as the OP has done.
But then I'm female, 54, so that means I'll be dead soon and therefore my views are irrelevant.

DarkDayforMN · 12/02/2023 09:24

Because some of them present in a traditionally feminine way

This is such a common and hilarious projection from TW, especially striking here given this OP’s evident hatred of gender nonconforming women and lesbians. Just stay out of our spaces, thanks - your outfits are irrelevant.

I'm much older than any X-er, but I am disturbed by the blatant extreme right-wing violent homophobia and misogyny demonstrated by the small subset of Gen Z that are going full Hitler Youth about this, and by the indulgence displayed toward them (so far) by the media.

Switch your brains off, play dress up, and unleash random violence on everyone outside your tiny club - it's very familiar.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 12/02/2023 09:31

Reading this thread demonstrates clearly that 'tolerant' is not an appropriate word to describe some of them (though I hope Madam is not in fact in any way representative).

Yes. The screamed sexual violence threats, the viewing of dissenters as subhuman scum with fantasies of extreme violence and murder towards them. The enactment of it in photographs with weapons.

Normal, well people don't think or behave like this.

nilsmousehammer · 12/02/2023 09:40

Even the blunt statements devoid of compassion, empathy, seeing others as human, such as 'well a small number of distraught, highly damaged, sterile and chronically ill kids are worth it for the achievement of this glorious end' are pathologically indicative. Not to mention following a political tradition that to the historically aware has been involved in a whole lot of court cases, quite a lot of them at Nuremberg.

Yes. It doesn’t take much reading of OP’s posts to see this. The glee that a poster is taking in the damage done to the bodies of our loved ones is really clear. The use of ‘still born’ on this site just sealed the deal on the misogyny behind the posts as well.

Once they show you who they are, believe them.

Brefugee · 12/02/2023 11:27

In sum: they freaked you out.

I've been polite. I am here because i wanted to answer your facile, idiotic and completely stupidly wrong assertion.
I am not freaked out by much. I've been around the block quite a few times and I've seen a lot.

You'd have a better discussion if you left off the idiotic statements like that.

Brefugee · 12/02/2023 11:32

I'll bite again, though. I would like OP to define their term "freaked out" because, to use an excellent Gen X quote "you keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means"

You’ve got to hand it to Gen Z!!
DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 12/02/2023 12:11

Making up new definitions for words is a core technique of the idealogues.

Yep

ScrollingLeaves · 12/02/2023 13:17

They are mostly useful idiots in the promotion of an ideology they don’t understand the implications of.

WandaWomblesaurus · 12/02/2023 13:20

"Freaked out"
Yeah maybe.
I'm pretty freaked out by people amputating body parts.

Must be something wrong with me.

ScrollingLeaves · 12/02/2023 13:22

And they think they are left wing when they are in fact bit part players in a capitalist, multi million dollar industry coming from the U.S.A.

DarkDayforMN · 12/02/2023 13:28

Pleasure in “freaking out” women is an aspect of some paraphilias.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 12/02/2023 13:31

to be fair to Madam he clearly did not want to be left wing and despised me for it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/02/2023 15:49

Do you really think such a tiny number of people are going to “set back” womanhood because some of them present in a traditionally feminine way?

A core skill when you wish to debate a subject is understanding and being able to coherently outline the other side's point.

You can't coherently explain your own.
