You’ve got to hand it to Gen Z!!

I know the whole transgender thing causes a lot of debate on Mumsnet. I’m not looking to stir that up here. But, regardless of where you stand, I think we all have to hand it to Gen Z for managing to freak out older generations so effectively.

Boomers spooked the Silent Generation with their love of rock n roll and the counterculture of the 60s.

Gen X framed the Boomers with acid house and rave.

Millennials were kinda lame as ‘hipster’ was little more than irony and beards.

Millennials and Gex thought they’d seen it all and were cool and tolerant.

But then came Gen Z who decided to disrupt the traditional thinking around gender. And all hell has broken loose. Gen X who thought of themselves as seriously tolerant have been massively freaked out!!!!

You have to hand it to Gen Z!!!

Speaking of “acid casualties,” a friend of mine who has a professional interest in the area has been telling me how worried he is by what he’s seeing online with young people who have acquired drugs from the Internet. They don’t have experienced users around them to learn from and they end up accidentally taking insane doses, or taking combinations they shouldn’t, or they’re often using unresearched “research chemicals.” Even traditional forms of teenage rebellion have become far more damaging in a world where kids are online and socially isolated, and turning to strangers online to guide them through their crises.

The problem goes so much deeper than genderism - adults have created an online world that even adults aren’t well-equipped to deal with, and children are given unfettered access to it. Of course they are turning to snake oil salesmen who promise they have a simple answer to life’s problems and questions; they’re completely overwhelmed and trying to find their way through an infinitely complex and scary world without a roadmap.

That's a fascinating post DarkDayforMN and very worrying. Adults abandoning responsibility for their children and handing them over to the influence of dangerous randoms on the internet.

'the identities they have adopted'

I don't have an 'identity' any more than I have a 'gender'.

The pathetic little sheep who need those things should try breaking free.

How quaint

Naw, her view is back in style now.

As you pointed out earlier, fashion is cyclical - gender is on the way out.

There were a few acid casualties in the 60s too. Sad, but surely we are better off for having had that rebellion. Just like we are with trans.

Ah, today's dose of sociopathy.

So you think no one should ever do anything risky?

It's just disingenuous because you, yourself no doubt in numerous activities which harm some people: perhaps including, driving, cycling, alcohol, smoking, use of drugs, side effects of well known medicines etc.

MadamAndTheAnts, are you just going to snark or are you capable of some reasonable discussion back and forth?

Well its natural for the next generation to challenge the previous one, but some things stick. Just like sexual revolution of the 60s and the acceptance of homosexuality.

If all you have is a few tik Tok accounts though, I would suggest that the counter revolution is still born.

Yeah! Because driving and riding a bike is just as risky as having your testicles amputated and your penis inverted!

Listen to yourself!

Judging by the OP's username I'm going to put money on them never seeing 40 again.

Yes, because it that were true, it would be terribly embarrassing for me to have started this thread wouldn’t it?

Which makes it a little creepy that they are crowing about how Gen Z have been manipulated into permanent self harm.

“Creepy” - the lamest of insults

I wonder what @MadamAndTheAnts thinks about 1980s youth and their disruption of gender roles and stereotypes, referencing examples like Adam Ant. Although Adam Ant himself is a baby boomer by date of birth of course.

I merely note the sociopathy.

There's a lot of it about.

Not liking the word "creepy" says a lot about a man person. I'm not going to spell it out for fear of deletion, but rest assured, we see you.

Calling someone who is supposedly 40+ “creepy” for commenting on an issue pertaining to younger people is a pathetic attempt to silence opinions different to your own.

No one can silence you here (unless you break the talk guidelines) so handily your can continue to post. You could try reading back over the posts and answer the questions put to you.
