You’ve got to hand it to Gen Z!!

I know the whole transgender thing causes a lot of debate on Mumsnet. I’m not looking to stir that up here. But, regardless of where you stand, I think we all have to hand it to Gen Z for managing to freak out older generations so effectively.

Boomers spooked the Silent Generation with their love of rock n roll and the counterculture of the 60s.

Gen X framed the Boomers with acid house and rave.

Millennials were kinda lame as ‘hipster’ was little more than irony and beards.

Millennials and Gex thought they’d seen it all and were cool and tolerant.

But then came Gen Z who decided to disrupt the traditional thinking around gender. And all hell has broken loose. Gen X who thought of themselves as seriously tolerant have been massively freaked out!!!!

You have to hand it to Gen Z!!!

Which makes it a little creepy that they are crowing about how Gen Z have been manipulated into permanent self harm.

i’m sorry Gen Z are less into stereotypes such as dungarees, those ‘ethnic’ hats, doc martins.

That's clothing, not stereotypes.

Any chance of answering the questions put to you?

Seems pretty stereotypical to me.

I could not find the cookies recipe no matter how hard I revised this thread. Has it been deleted?

That's clothing, not stereotypes.

I noticed that earlier and this confirms it - OP genuinely doesn't seem to know the difference between outfits and stereotypes.

It's a fascinating failure of thinking and I think it would probably explain a lot about genderbollocks believers if I could be bothered to unpick it.

Like the song says, "gender is just clothes."

RoseslnTheHospital · 11/02/2023 17:29

Stereotypical of what, in what context? DMs were stereotypically worn by skin heads, is that what you are referring to? Dungarees, well, lesbians and/or feminists? Ethnic hats... no idea what or who you're referring to there!

It’s wild that so many people now confuse personality and specialist interests for gender identity.

nah, clothes exist, gender doesn't

I wish Pete Burns was still around to see 2023.

Pete could be a sour old queen at times but he was fiercely bright and could see through other people’s bullshit like a laser.

He was a walking cautionary tale re: the perils of unnecessary surgical interventions and a life spent chasing the body dysmorphic dragon.

Pete was proof that you could wear whatever you wanted from the Women’s section without magically transmogrifying into a woman or changing the name on your gas bill.

The world can be very unkind to gender non conforming boys and girls and sadly, I do think a lot of the current trans stuff relates to societal and internal homophobia.

High school is truly shit but there is a big ol’ world beyond it.

EndlessTea · 11/02/2023 19:08

OP doesn’t seem able to differentiate a few different meanings:

Under the influence of - and - drawing inspiration from

Stereotypes - and - clothing choices

Creepy (sinister, dangerous, shouldn’t be allowed need children, check their hard drive) - and - creepy (like dark woods in a children’s fairytale).

I was surprised to learn that my sister (born in Jan '81) is technically a millennial. She remembers MTV, watching VHS tapes, owning a cassette Walkman, and the introduction of the Internet etc.

She always used to moan about hipster millennials so I think it really pissed her off. 🤭😂

Kinda like this…

Deffo a stereotype, played upon by Viz

You’ve got to hand it to Gen Z!!

Not wearing DMs or dungarees, tho. Is that the ethnic hat of which you speak? Or is it hair?

And, what the blithering hell is the relevance of this Viz caricature to anything you're trying to say? What are you trying to say??

Deffo an ‘ethnic’ hat - well common then.

What I am saying, is that plenty of GC bods seem to accuse trans people of being stereotypes. But many are no less stereotypes themselves. Just a different kind.

Oh dear.

Right, the misunderstanding here is that what people who are critical of gender do is point out that a man presenting as a stereotypical woman doesn't make them one. And similarly, presenting as a stereotypical man doesn't make a female person male.

I don't care if men dress as stereotypically feminine as they like, as long as they don't claim to be female as a result and demand access to female only resources.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/02/2023 20:12

You don't seem to understand much of what you're talking about, OP.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/02/2023 20:19

I predict OP isn't going to engage in any good faith, meaningful way, just continue to snipe and post irrelevant cartoons to make whatever point about how terribly boring and unfashionable MN GC feminists are, that they imagine they are making. And who knows WTF that is.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 11/02/2023 20:23

Whereas if I dress as a stereotypical dungarees, docs and ethnic hat wearing woman I will indeed be a woman. But I will also be one if I put on a dress, or pyjamas, or nothing at all.

As it happens, I do sometimes wear ancient dungarees, but that's to protect the clothes below them from gardening detritus, not as a fashion statement - I try to avoid other people seeing me in them - they're for come in the door and walk straight into the shower days.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/02/2023 20:27

But I will also be one if I put on a dress, or pyjamas, or nothing at all.

And a male person won't be.

EndlessTea · 11/02/2023 20:31

I dunno. With this Viz references, it makes me wonder if OP is an anti-feminist MRA of the pre-TA vintage.

Remember them?

Needing a lil’ attention from mums.

This one does seem a bit weary and half-hearted though.

Is life feeling a bit flat OP?
