I know it's a Mail link but I've not seen it up anywhere else yet:

Rishi Sunak wades into trans debate saying 'biological sex matters'
mol.im/a/11707375

Glad to see him taking a clear position.

OP posts:
LemonBounce · 03/02/2023 07:34

I find it bizarre how people think this shows he cares about women's rights?
All it shows is he's happy to dog whistle the anti trans community. Just like they're happy to dog whistle the racist community with the Rwanda plan. well that one is more of a fog horn!

If he cared about women's rights I would be looking at a plan for the all time low rape conviction rate, police reform and childcare that's actually affordable. Wish some of the keyboard warriors on here would spend more time on some of the major women's rights failings!

hryllilegur · 03/02/2023 07:35

All this: he’s just saying it to win votes stuff is quite depressing.

Not because I’m naive enough to think that politicians don’t make statements with a view to courting public opinion.

But because the basic statement ‘a woman is an adult female’ has become so controversial that it even could be considered a cynical attempt at winning votes rather than a statement of the utterly obvious.

It should be in the category with other basic observations like ‘rain is wet’ and ‘a square has 4 sides’.

PennyToffee · 02/02/2023 22:02

What fools you are. You honestly think Rishi gives a shit about this?

They have spin doctors for this very reason.

And the way to have a decent productive discussion is to call all those trying to engage in it “fools”. Definitely. 🙄

ClaphamSouth · 03/02/2023 07:47

Hear hear Helleofabore.

Why aren't Starmer's spin doctors telling him to stop lying? Everyone knows he's lying and because he is willing to tell lies about this every single time he mentions integrity I remember about how he clearly has absolutely none.

Anyfeckinusername · 03/02/2023 07:50

Blinis · 02/02/2023 22:07

every man I know with school age daughters is now aware that this issue is a big deal.

Rishi is saying what normal men say. Why Starmer can’t say it too is mind boggling. It’s totally ok for them to agree with each other on this. Then the GE won’t be about it!!

You're absolutely right. I've been noticing this too.

Glad someone has come forward and stated the obvious regardless of their party - it actually feels a relief.

And this is such a classic case of whataboutery while using what passes as the current derogatory terminology.

Thank you. You have really done it well.

Dog whistle>
Anti - trans
Racist
keyboard warriors

All in a few sentences.

Good stuff!

(>the new meaning of this word is particularly amusing because use of it is now one of the greatest virtue signalling devices. The use of this word fulfills its meaning)

Which begs the question: Why are Starmer's spin doctors so quiet about this?

Labour supporters, Labour party and the left in general think insulting intelligence and not caring about what women want is a better way to go.

Any non blinkered person can see it’s easy to say what Rishi did and the massive issue is with the left - and their lies.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/02/2023 08:02

Well I for one I’m always convinced when ppl pop up to call us fools & tell us that politicians say what will win them votes 🙄

aa PP have said both sunak AND starmer know exactly what a woman is because you know other than a few absolute headbangers everyone does. The difference is one of them is prepared to say it unequivocally

Starmer is spineless over this issue and if he can’t face down the blue haired brigade in his own party over this how exactly is he going to run the country?

Helleofabore · 03/02/2023 08:03

Which begs the question: Why are Starmer's spin doctors so quiet about this?

Didn’t they allow him to compromise and call single sex spaces ‘safe spaces’ (a sleight of hand) and to push the 99.9% of women are biological women with a tiny group of males?

That was spin doctoring.

The SNP position of ‘they are rapists’ in answer to the question of “are they women?” Is some of the most obvious spin for … well, for weeks!!!

FatSealSmugSoup · 03/02/2023 08:05

@caringcarer apologies if it’s already been said - but try Bannatynes? Duncan has made it very clear his policies in changing rooms. There’s also a total ban on cameras in changing rooms so you’ll never find your middle-aged arse mocked on SM for the likes.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/02/2023 08:10

If it’s so straight forward to say women are adult human females, why aren’t Labour saying it?

if Labour are the party that cares about women, how can they implement pro women policies when they don’t know what a woman is & can’t measure the impact because their stats will include women & men who say they are women?

if Labour are pro women why are they happy to allow programmes designed to improve women’s representation in politics to be taken by men?

if Labour are pro women how are they ok with women’s refuges and rape support groups including men?

if Labour are pro women why do they allow one of their own female MPs to be bullied by their own party?

if Labour is so pro women how is it LRM has not had the whip removed fjr his behaviour in the HoC?

If Labour is so pro women how come David lammy was allowed ti call us rights hoarding dinosaurs?

if Labour are so much better for women how is it that even now with everything that’s happened they still can’t stand up and say “women are adult human females’?

This sums up Labour’s misogyny

But because the basic statement ‘a woman is an adult female’ has become so controversial that it even could be considered a cynical attempt at winning votes rather than a statement of the utterly obvious.

But who cares what the primary motivation is? There’s no doubt in my mind that RS actually believes Woman = AHF but he has also come to realise something so basic is a vote winner. Politicians are starting to realise that to speak the truth is a vote winner. Labour are slowly coming to the same realisation. They have noticeably altered their position on this recently presumably because their previous stance made them look stupid and like they don’t give a shit about women.

DarkDayforMN · 03/02/2023 08:17

The second comment on this thread: “he’s saying it for votes not because he cares about women’s rights.”

And yet the entire rest of the thread is filled with apparent halfwits projecting their own stupidity, talking down and chiding women on here for believing Sunak “actually cares” as if anyone said that, and as if it even matters if he does. What matters is that he has been briefed that the public cares.

It’s annoying to read, sorry, needed to vent. Stupid people being patronising tend to wind me up!!

KangarooKenny · 03/02/2023 08:20

I think he’s saying it to be very clear. Nicola, on the other hand, isn’t.

HerbalTeaAndChocolate · 03/02/2023 08:20

Well he's going down anyway. I guess he thinks he might as well just say it 🤷🏽‍♀️

HerbalTeaAndChocolate · 03/02/2023 08:22

Octopusmittens · 02/02/2023 22:13

Good for him, he gets my vote.

Yes vote for him! Fuck the schools, hospitals, emergency services and all the pesky poor people! 🙈🙈🙈

Helleofabore · 03/02/2023 08:23

I think the fact that it is being said is now blowing the whole ‘it is not considered important by voters’ and ‘no one has ever mentioned it to me!’ comments off the table.

These issues can no longer be diminished.

It simply should not be a statement you can use for political purposes. Any more than ‘today is Friday’ should be subject to political debate.

It’s utterly ridiculous that we are in a position where ‘a woman is an adult human female’ is up for any political debate.

AngelinaFibres · 03/02/2023 08:25

Fluffymule · 02/02/2023 22:18

Both Sunak and Starmer know and believe that Woman are adult human females and that humans can not change sex, that no man can become a woman either by identification or medical procedure.

Sunak is prepared to say this publicly, unreservedly and on record.

Starmer is not.

Maybe after the disastrous blowback on Nicola Sturgeon this past week, and the subsequent overwhelming evidence that the voting general public do not support her Gender Ideology policies like Self Id, Starmer will now grow a spine, drop his dishonesty and follow Sunak's lead.

The problem Starmer has is just how much content out there, on record, in embarrassing and shameful detail, needs to be rowed back on by members of the Labour front bench. Stuff like Lisa Nandy insisting that 'trans' rapists should go into prisons 'of their choosing'.

This.

Sunak: "I know what a woman is – an adult human female"

Nobody thinks Conservative policy has become pro women. They are kicking a ball into an open goal. However it is a move forward from the Miller Mordaunt years.

Meanwhile @LemonBounce , please could you explain how a coherent policy can explain why Isla Bryson shouldn’t be in a male prison, if sex can’t be mentioned.

Remember the rapes happened in 2016 and 2019, he wasn’t legally classed as a rapist until 2023, and he was, per policy, in a woman’s prison until the Scottish government became embarrassed.

Whatever Sunak’s intentions, he is at least able to speak clearly.

hryllilegur · 03/02/2023 08:26

Sunak caring or not about women’s rights should be entirely separate from his ability to describe basic things.

That’s all he does. Made a basic, obvious statement.

It should be of no significance.

Imagine if people responded to a statement like ‘in the uk, vehicles drive on the left’ in the same way. The fact that most politicians are terrified to just make a basic statement is very telling.

Merrymouse · 03/02/2023 08:29

@LemonBounce , while this is a private forum, if your assertion is that gender critical feminists have never done anything to support women, I would start by learning more about Julie Bindel’s decades of campaigning for victims of domestic abuse.
