Sturgeon getting an absolute grilling on Channel 4 News

I should imagine the clip will be doing the rounds on twitter shortly if it's not already, but their Scotland correspondant Ciaran Jenkins did a really good job in a brief interview with her when she was on a tour of a TV studio today. Raised the issue of Katie Dolatowski, and got her quite rattled trying to get her to justify her comments about transphobia and racism. Should be on about 8:15/8:20ish if you want to watch it on C4+1

I was thinking aong the same lines..

"Non-binary people don't need to cross roads, they are on both sides at the same time"

/wanders off to consider the parallels between quantum physics and gender identities...wave/particle duality, spectrums and binaries, and the state of a thing being dependent on the observer...

And can I be simultaneously a TRA snd a TERF / do I only become one or the other when I’m observed by a Gen z person? I’d it their bigotry that’s made me a TERF?

is IW left in a state of flux because no one is paying any attention?

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2023 13:08

@FlirtsWithRhinos and @OMG12

Now I've seen some thread go sideways sometimes whilst still being in topic...

But quantum physics and particle duality and schrödinger's cat has to win the prize

Oh I've been doing that job. I've posted posts and photos on cats, crocs and Smurfs in the last few days. I'm bringing the average IQ right down!

Love Smurf’s 😜

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2023 13:56

Yeah? This one isn't lovable. No matter where I put him he keeps jumping off and attacking people. He's managed to actually knock a clock off the wall before now. Straight onto my head!

I must have got a spell wrong at some point!

Different topic but fellow vipers might find this amusing:

We don’t just dream up policies, Sturgeon tells Scottish businesses

"“More often than not it is a good reason or an inescapable reason. We are not just dreaming up things to make life difficult for people although I’m sure that’s how it seems sometimes."

It does, Nicola. It does.

TheABC · 04/02/2023 13:59

Why did the non-binary cross the road?
Because they were being observed.

Regarding Schrödinger's cat, there's always the third option: Alive, Dead and Bloody Furious.

With a hat-tip to Sir Terry Pratchett.

The deposit return scheme is set to go live in August and will add 20p to single-use drinks containers. The consumer will be able to claim back the money at designated recycling points.

I have to say this one is just recycling an old idea. But this is exactly what used to happen in Scotland, more or less. The pop man would drive round the streets and you'd get some money back for your empty Barrs bottle. And then spend it on your next bottle of irn bru

Whereas in England we had to take ours back to the off licence.

Sugarfree23 · 04/02/2023 14:23

The recycling scheme is just nuts. The Barrs scheme and the old milk bottle schemes worked by the bottles being washed and reused therefore saving the cost of new bottles.

The scheme for bottles is just going to cost money to the shops where is that cost going to be recovered?

ResisterRex · 04/02/2023 14:25

Sugar and Boiled. You're being very unfair. She doesn't just dream this stuff up, y'know!!

You'll give yourself a bad head.

Just sit down and have a nice cuppa tea.

<offers biscuits>

<puts Mr Ben on the telly>

Watch some sensible identity-swapping - it'll help your blood pressure.

She is roughly my age. She will remember the pop man.

But it did only work because 1. It was a lot of money on each bottle and 2. they were as Sugar said washed and reused.

I'd understand her version more if she had made them use reusable containers at the same time.

This version is just gong to be a bloody ball ache for everyone. And will cost more in the long run to everyone.

turbonerd · 04/02/2023 14:47

In Scandinavia and Germany this kind of recycling has been going on forever and it works.
The bottle is «pawned» to you and you Get that extra cash back when you return it. The soft-drink companies and the shops co-operate on it.
Kids can gather bottles and Get some dosh, they can be donated to orgs who will bring them back for you and keep the dosh, if you are short of money and have some it brings down your next shopping Bill.

much that NS has done is Not Good, but this is actually a decent effort against littering, pollution and for sustainability

Sugarfree23 · 04/02/2023 14:57

The question is how many more bottles will be recycled ♻️ compared to currently being recycled via the council recycling bin schemes?

Of the bottles that are picked up at the street how many are actually recycled?

Do the councils make any money out of the plastic they collect? Is it like scrap metal with a value? It it has a value that councils benefit from how are they going to recoup that lost revenue?

Sugarfree23 · 04/02/2023 15:00

@turbonerd in Germany and Scandinavia are the bottles actually reused or just recycled?

Barrs (Irn bru etc) stopped their reuse glass bottle scheme a couple of years ago as the scheme was becoming too costly. And plastic bottles were cheaper.

Sugarfree23 · 04/02/2023 15:03

Longer ago than I thought 2015.

^Whereas in England we had to take ours back to the off licence.

We used to have a pop man, in Northeast England and the deposit would come off the next bottle. The milkman also delivered deposit bottle of pop, with the same scheme.

We had the local shop, too.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/02/2023 16:47

I've been reading recent blogposts by Wings Over Scotland that explain how thoroughly captured Scottish political parties have become. It's absolutely horrifying.

If Sturgeon didn't know about this she should have done. Murderers, rapists, nappy-wearing fetishists, furries, violent men with links to crime, prostitution and drugs. The very worst of them applauded and feted by politicians. Why might that be?
