I should imagine the clip will be doing the rounds on twitter shortly if it's not already, but their Scotland correspondant Ciaran Jenkins did a really good job in a brief interview with her when she was on a tour of a TV studio today. Raised the issue of Katie Dolatowski, and got her quite rattled trying to get her to justify her comments about transphobia and racism. Should be on about 8:15/8:20ish if you want to watch it on C4+1

Complain about impartiality yo bbc. Quote law and ea to your mp.

FluffyBunni · 30/01/2023 20:32

I don't see why people on this thread are feeling triumphant about this interview - she wasn't really caught out imo and I don't think this will go down as a disaster interview for her in particular. She said that "some" people are transphobe and racist etc, which of course is true.

I actually think the ITV interview was more damaging. She got twisted up with the whole 'trans woman is a woman...until she is a violent criminal'

Sugarfree23 · 30/01/2023 23:37

She was rattled by the BBC interview too. I'm curious as to what order the interviews were done, they all look like the same studio so probably back to back, did she get more nervous and rattled as they went on.

Nicola Sturgeon-you have been exposed as a class A eejit. Stand down.

I give thanks that the worm of trans rights is eating its own tail right in front of us!

I suggest we start to use their tactics. Now that it's legal to be gender critical, report every rape and death threat to twitter and the police. Contact the workplaces of the crazy tras on twitter and complain about their sexist extreme violent views. Send screenshot or links to all the newspapers, especially the bbc and the guardian. Complain to your mp and the BBC every time they minimise the issue .

This might be exactly the right time for people to do this. All of us at once throw all this shit their way

Butchyrestingface · 30/01/2023 23:44

I can't follow where any of them are going with this argument.

"Trans women are women because they say they are ... until they commit a sexual offence. Then they're no longer women. "PEOPLE" who commit sexual offences against women do not belong in women's jails."

Sure they do. IF THEY'RE WOMEN.

Women committing sexual offences against anyone is a rare occurrence, but when it happens, they don't get sent to MALE prisons. Rose West and Myra Hindley didn't get shipped off to Belmarsh because they'd sexually abused and murdered women and girls. They didn't become suddenly UNwomen.

The only possibly consistent position for Sturgeon to maintain is that Isla Bryson is who SHE claims she is (a woman), and as a woman, belongs in a woman's prison. And this is a perfectly coherent position. There's nothing remotely incompatible with IB being both a sexual predator AND a man who genuinely believes he's a woman.

Today is a good day to be Gender Critical. Smile

MoirasSaggyBundles · 30/01/2023 23:44

pictoosh · 30/01/2023 20:44

I agree.

The "some people are..." argument is a complete straw man. Someone being racist doesn't make a man any more of a woman. Someone being racist doesn't negate human biology. Someone being racist doesn't negate all the harm done to women by the TRAs and their hanger ons. Someone being racist doesn't negate all the women who believe that trans women are men and will not stop believing this. Human biology is not a matter of political belief. It is an irrefutable fact.

I don't find this exhilarating. I like her. I don't agree with her stance on this but I like her opinions on many other things. There was a time when she seemed like the only grown up in UK politics.

Jellycatspyjamas · 30/01/2023 23:22

Your last paragraph is actually incredibly hurtful, if you knew anything about me, which of course you don’t, and cannot, because this is anonymous online discussion.

@PineCone74 if the thought of it is incredibly hurtful, maybe spare a thought for the women for whom this is a reality - sharing space with a convicted rapist in a woman’s prison. Being raped in your hospital bed and then being repeatedly told it didn’t happen because “there are no men here” (because TWAW so magically lost the use of their fully intact penis when they decided to wear a dress).

The reason people are gleeful is because this shit is finally being publicly challenged, which may stop someone facing the very situation you find so hurtful to think about.

You are completely misunderstanding me. It is not the ‘thought of it’ I found hurtful at all. It is that you suggested I spend time in a cell with a rapist and see how I sleep. You know nothing about me, or my past experiences, yet felt it ok to say this. It sort of made the point I was trying to make originally, that debates so quickly end up in these kinds of statements. Ironically I found the rest of your post (before you finished with that) helpful because it gave me things to find out about and think about. That is a useful sort of debate in my view, when I can learn and think. So there was no need to end by suggesting I spend the night in a cell with a rapist.

Boiledbeetle · 30/01/2023 23:49

@Butchyrestingface Today is a good day to be Gender Critical.

Isn't it just. This time last month we were all hoping the conservatives would stop the Bill. And here we are Bill stopped and a man in pink leggings, and a small cock claiming to be a woman only after he's charged with raping two women! And suddenly it's all gone pffft!

FOJN · 30/01/2023 23:52

There was a time when she seemed like the only grown up in UK politics.

I agree. In the 2015 (?) party leaders debate she really stood out. I think the news headlines at the time were full of praise for her but you can't expect to retain that admiration when you're prepared to throw 50% of the population under the bus just to get support for your personal priorities and secure your legacy.

TheABC · 30/01/2023 23:52

PineCone74 · 30/01/2023 22:36

Nothing at all extremist in holding those views. I am meaning more in the way that they are sometimes expressed. I mean more in the name-calling, glee at the prospect of people who we don’t agree with being taken down and so on.

Oh, absolutely.
Glee is uncalled for. How dare we!

I have gin and no fucks left. Open to all suggestions on acceptable celebrations. I trust it won't include head tilts.

@PineCone74 if you care to look back, you’ll see that I didn’t make that suggestion at all - you’re confusing me with another poster. I’m simply saying if the suggestion is hurtful to you, the reality is torturous for the people living it.

It is absolutely joyous!

That said, Ms/Mr/Those/It's Sturgeon's face would stand cobbling so she is likely to carry on with this shite and no doubt, sympathetic interviews are already being lined up for her/him/it/.they/

GCAcademic · 30/01/2023 23:57

Let’s hope that Sturgeon has killed off her political career with this in the same way (only more spectacularly) as that Lib Dem leader whose name no one can now remember.

Those leggings really did for the loons in Scotland.

Blister · 30/01/2023 23:58

To think I've spent almost 25 years campaigning that women were women no matter what their reproductive abilities were, the size or presence of boobs/muscles/hairs, no matter what crime they've committed, no matter what crime has been committed against themt, no matter what they've been forced to do in life. Only for a woman to enable a category of women who can lose womanhood based on a checklist. NS you are no defender of women's rights .

I can’t stand Sturgeon but I’ve loved watching those interviews! Yeah but no but yeah but something, something. And no, I couldn’t care less what trans identifying men think. Tired of men’s hurty feelings being put above women’s safety and dignity. Get out of my space and piss off.

You mean like her views on appropriating £600k raised for an independence campaign, or wasting hundreds of millions on ferries worth only a fraction of that which are years late and unusable? Or her mismanagement of education, pulling Scotland out of all the international rating schemes to hid the fact it is going down the pan (and worse than England)? Or promoting widening access schemes at universities so no one from any of the islands or most of the rest of Scotland (including the majority of deprived students) has any chance of studying law at Edinburgh (but those from selected mainly SNP voting areas do)? Or her inability to build safe hospitals? Or a named person scheme thrown out by courts for grossly invading private family life? How about her hate crimes bill so where your children can report you for hurtful opinions over the dinner table?

Tell me which of these you admire?

That was me.

I can hardly believe you are tone policing a thread in which women are expressing their anger that female prisoners would be placed in a situation which you, because of your own history, would find upsetting.

You do not need to share my rage about rapists in womens prisons but equally you do not get to judge me or anyone else for theirs or the way we express it on an anonymous forum.
