Sturgeon getting an absolute grilling on Channel 4 News

I should imagine the clip will be doing the rounds on twitter shortly if it's not already, but their Scotland correspondant Ciaran Jenkins did a really good job in a brief interview with her when she was on a tour of a TV studio today. Raised the issue of Katie Dolatowski, and got her quite rattled trying to get her to justify her comments about transphobia and racism. Should be on about 8:15/8:20ish if you want to watch it on C4+1

I mean more in the name-calling, glee at the prospect of people who we don’t agree with being taken down and so on.

Have you any idea how many eminently qualified women NS ignored when they tried to sound the alarm about the risks of self ID?

Did you miss her dismissing women's concerns?

Did you miss her claiming some people raising objections were transphobic, homophobic and racist in order to discredit women's rights campaigners?

Have you missed the number of times politicians and lobby groups have insulted women?

Did you miss the Labour MP's aggressive outburst against and intimidation of a female MP in the HoC within the last couple of weeks?

Did you miss the male CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis saying that women who wanted female rape crisis counselors would be educated and told to reframe thier trauma.

I could go on all night listing the appalling ways in which women have been treated for daring to speak about their concerns.

So yeah, glee is an understatement. I doubt NS is as stressed and anxious now as the women incarcerated with rapists so she can fuck off. My upset about this abuse of women is visceral, I cannot even imagine being locked up with a violent male and being unable to escape if I needed to and knowing that my abuse was facilitated by government policy. Could there be a more powerful way of telling women they are worth nothing.

If you find that hard to understand them you have no empathy so perhaps you should volunteer to share a cell with Peter Sutcliffe for the night and then come back and tell us how well you slept.

which is often I would imagine desperately unseen, marginalised and discriminated against.

You imagine wrong. They are men and have exactly the same opportunities as every other man. If they are going to fuck that up by cross dressing then I don't want to have to deal with that at work, in changing rooms and anywhere else TBH. And neither do their families.

So they can report on it now, eh? Now that countless women have sacrificed themselves while they turned the other way.

Cowards.

This.

The BBC in particular has been a national embarrassment on this issue for years, failing to cover major news stories if they show transpeople in a bad light, printing wildly biased ‘articles’ that read as propaganda, and being downright offensive about JK Rowling, Maya Forstater and others. The BBC has been a bit better since someone reminded them they’re not supposed to be a political lobby group, but in general they’ve provided an appalling lack of challenge to the misogyny of trans activists, and the obsession with access to children by such groups as The Family Sex Show, Mermaids, Drag story time, etc. I had to read the Daily Mail to find competent journalism on this issue! (Never read a tabloid in my life until the last couple of years.)

Every time the BBC cover a story they put close up photos of the trans activists’ placards, and quote the trans slogans, then say something spineless at the end like ‘others disagree.’

The active promotion of trans activists’ fake science in BBC documentaries aimed at children, like ‘Leo’ has been particularly disturbing.

So much for holding policymakers accountable.

Makes you wonder who works at the BBC, doesn’t it?

Helleofabore · 30/01/2023 23:09

awww!!! The women were not being nice enough!!

It’s both sides!

Whatabout the males?

Have you ever thought about others?

Bad feminists!! Bad, bad feminists!!!

EzzieM · 30/01/2023 23:12

“Do any of you ever think about how a trans woman would feel stumbling across your threads on here?”

I realise that this will come as a massive psychological shock to some, but the Feminist board of a site called Mumsnet was not set up with slavish validation of transwomen’s feelings as the top priority.

Women are women, and sometimes we talk about women’s issues. If that offends, best to look away or 😱😱 listen and learn.

Your last paragraph is actually incredibly hurtful, if you knew anything about me, which of course you don’t, and cannot, because this is anonymous online discussion. But this is my point really, so perhaps I should just come off MN as it isn’t a place to have the kind of discussion I wish were more possible. All I am thinking is this: it doesn’t seem possible in so many online or in person debates today for either of the following: 1. To be concerned about women’s rights in this debate without being called transphobic. 2. To think of oneself as a supporter of women’s rights if one does not agree with a certain viewpoint. This is what I mean by referring to ‘both sides’.

Do any of you ever think about how a trans woman would feel stumbling across your threads on here?

I know you all feel strongly about this but I feel genuinely sad at how the understandably emotive issue of trans women in prisons has whipped people up to a point where there's such glee in posts like this, and underneath it all is such a dismissive and negative view of all the trans women in our society and how they feel - which is often I would imagine desperately unseen, marginalised and discriminated against.

Calling a group the "trans women are women brigade" is so unkind to trans women everywhere who deserve to be recognised.

I think like a lot of people I started out being totally supportive, I was always a fan of Charlie Martin (race driver) and followed her trans journey. I would absolutely have fought alongside transpeople for them to have their own spaces. But they have morphed into a movement that has embraced the fetishists, the violent, the MRAs and have been careless with children's safe guarding and women's rights.
I still believe there are decent transpeople out there, but I can't support this movement anymore. I imagine any of those decent transpeople would read this thread and understand why.

At last some biological facts and sense are coming into this debate.
I wrote to my MSP this week incredulous about the prison situation as I imagine many many constituents did. I am still furious as I have been for months about this utter misogynistic fantasy that was attempting to be enshrined in law. I am not racist, homophobic or anti trans, I am however a woman who will not tolerate men invading women only spaces. I want women to feel safe in the tiny proportion of the planet where men don’t matter most!

Yes, @LikeAnOldFriend, I do. It's exactly like we've experienced over the past millennium as women and specifically over the past decade with this ideology. We've been screamed at, threatened, doxxed and dismissed for asking safeguarding questions. More than one woman has lost her job because of it. In the worst examples, women have been raped (on mixed sex wards and in prisons) by men purporting to be trans and one lesbian family has been murdered by a trans activist. Meanwhile our words are "literal violence."

Now. I don't believe for one minute that all trans people are rapists, murdered, etc. But, by dismissing all safeguards on the alter of gender ideology and giving a free pass to predatory men based on identity, transactivists have done a bloody good job of force-teaming them together.

Right now, this is on Nicola and her ilk. They dismissed, sneered at and voted down all women's concerns over self-ID, then seemed surprised when the public were outraged over the result. So yes, I will quietly enjoy a chuckle at her crappy interview and keep campaigning for single sex spaces.

You can hold whatever views you like without any judgement from me but the second you try to berate other women for not "debating" in a manner you approve off you will get pushback.

@PineCone74 if the thought of it is incredibly hurtful, maybe spare a thought for the women for whom this is a reality - sharing space with a convicted rapist in a woman’s prison. Being raped in your hospital bed and then being repeatedly told it didn’t happen because “there are no men here” (because TWAW so magically lost the use of their fully intact penis when they decided to wear a dress).

The reason people are gleeful is because this shit is finally being publicly challenged, which may stop someone facing the very situation you find so hurtful to think about.

BreadInCaptivity · 30/01/2023 23:22

Do any of you ever think about how a trans woman would feel stumbling across your threads on here?

Yes and I live in hope that some might take the time to listen to the views and experiences of women without using these threads as an opportunity to centre themselves (aka men), usual through means of emotional manipulation, gaslighting and claims bigotry, whilst failing to address the very valid concerns being raised (for which we have receipts, even when it "will never happen").

Do you not see the irony in appropriating womanhood whist simultaneously dismissing the perspectives of members of that cohort whose experiences you claim as being intrinsically authentic to yourself?

Yet you think you are the person whose hard done to here. That your feelings are somehow more valuable/fragile/worthy?

That reacting to NS publicly coming undone when being asked reasonable questions that women have lobbied (at considerable cost to themselves in many cases) for years for journalists to start bloody asking and being happy/gleeful about that is mean?

Frankly at this point the violin I'm now playing is very tiny indeed 🎻

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/01/2023 23:23

MrsOverton amen to that. I want my daughter back. I want her in all her autistic glory. She will always be my daughter and I adore her. I do not want her butchered and gobbling testosterone. She is perfect and I hate the idea that she thinks she's a boy. It keeps me awake at night and it's hellish.

Hepwo · 30/01/2023 23:25

I may have misheard the silly Sturgeon, but I'm sure she said the recent removal of the rapist was for the trans community.

She got him out because it was making them look bad obviously. Not because they are men.

Did anyone else pick up that vibe?

EpicChaos · 30/01/2023 23:26

@Boiledbeetle Cheers BoiledBeetle! I couldn't have asked for a better assist, or for it to arrive at a better time!

Boomboom22 · 30/01/2023 23:30

I suggest we start to use their tactics. Now that it's legal to be gender critical, report every rape and death threat to twitter and the police. Contact the workplaces of the crazy tras on twitter and complain about their sexist extreme violent views. Send screenshot or links to all the newspapers, especially the bbc and the guardian. Complain to your mp and the BBC every time they minimise the issue .
