So, cervical screening obviously isn't for me then, a Woman, who doesn't consider herself to have been 'assigned' anything at any stage? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Righto...

It clearly says it is for you if you're a woman assigned female at birth.
Regardless of if you don't want to call yourself that or not.

maudesvagina · 23/01/2023 16:12

Nobody is assigned female at birth and I would not trust any medical establishment that uses this language

Skulldrudgery · 23/01/2023 16:12

Actually it doesn’t mention the word “woman” but it has many other words

Thedaysthatremain · 23/01/2023 16:12

I mean, if you want to get cancer because you cut off your nose to spite your face crack on.

Not everything is an attack against you.

Yeah, At the end of the list. Shows where you are in their priorities.

Eloradannin2nd · 23/01/2023 16:13

It's health promotion, intended to reach as many eligible people as possible. 🤷‍♀️
Seems pretty inclusive to me?

334bu · 23/01/2023 16:14

Doesn't mention women so not inclusive at all.

LaughingPriest · 23/01/2023 16:15

It's ok because I'm a gender-non-conforming person. As are my brothers.

It's hideously written and genuinely I believe plenty of women will not see that they are included in that. Who judges if someone is gender non-conforming or not? If I play football here, I arguably am, but if I was in America, I wouldn't be.

senua · 23/01/2023 16:15

Actually it doesn't. It just says AFAB, doesn't use the word woman at all.

In regards to priorities, most women know about smears, the campaign is targeted at trans men who also may need smears.
I really dont see the problem. No-one is denying the female population, stop tying yourself up in knots getting offended.

Bobbybobbins · 23/01/2023 16:17

It's not well-written but I can see the point here

It clearly says it is for you if you’re a pink penguin with green flippers and holographic eyes.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 23/01/2023 16:17

I was observed to be female at birth. I wasn't assigned anything. (Well I suppose my parents assigned me my name).
Luckily for me I know that I need my smear tests regardless of if I agree with the wording or not.

Women with LDs/English as a 2nd or other language may not.

I think you're right.
I still disagree that all 'gender non-conforming persons' need smears though.

What is the actual problem with being accurate? I can't see how this wording makes any sense - and clearly they have been handwringing over their wording and still chose this, which includes male people of all ages.

Meceme · 23/01/2023 16:20

It actually doesn't use the word woman and sex is observed not assigned.
Sex is determined at conception and can be identified in utero during pregnancy.

I would expect the word woman to be used first as this is the sex needing cervical screening and clear language is important to transmit the message.

I have no issue with trans men and non binary genders being included after the largest target group.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

KnickerlessParsons · 23/01/2023 16:22

It could have just said "if you're a woman, you need to have regular smear tests" and left it at that.

Transmen will know it applies to them too - unless they're really dense

Johnnysgirl · 23/01/2023 16:23

Don't put it off my arse. That fucking ad has put me right off...
They've actually led with the men; in a campaign for cervical smears 😳
And told biological women that they've had this fact arbitrarily "assigned".

FettleOfKish · 23/01/2023 16:23

It doesn't say 'Women assigned female at birth' though. It says 'assigned female at birth' which I wasn't. I simply am Female, and have been since conception.

Curiously the accompanying radio ad by the same organisation very simply says 'Women and people with a cervix' which is absolutely fine and appropriate. I've got no idea why they've gone so far off-piste here; targeting a particular set of people perhaps, except without any particular targeting employed since it's just on their primary social feeds.

Jadedandlost · 23/01/2023 16:23

It is the erosion of my identity - a woman. Why is this identity being erased?

Eloradannin2nd · 23/01/2023 16:25

There is also another advert aimed solely at women. But hey, lets ignore what doesn't fit the narrative??

Righto...
exLtEveDallas · 23/01/2023 16:25

It should say “Women and Transmen who still have a cervix”. That is a fully inclusive statement.

No need for all the other bluster and nonsense wording.
