So, cervical screening obviously isn't for me then, a Woman, who doesn't consider herself to have been 'assigned' anything at any stage? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Righto...
OP posts:
Helleofabore · 23/01/2023 17:28

So .... is there a third ad to this series? One that communicates clearly to women in general without the detachment and the inclusion of a baby?

nilsmousehammer · 23/01/2023 17:29

Always so interesting who has to 'learn to cope' or go without and tough titties to you, it's your fault anyway, and who has the power to be so very carefully pandered to in case of offense.

WilburTheIron · 23/01/2023 17:30

If the language for the female sex was not being eroded by this movement in the first place, then we would not need these types of additional communications - which in themselves are compounding the erosion. We are spiraling downwards, away from clear language and healthcare and impacting those most vulnerable, not helping them.

Also - if you have such dysphoria to want to identify as the opposite sex, then you know what you were and are, otherwise what are you ‘transitioning’ from?

Women. This is the word. It is who we are whether we like it or not.

Helleofabore · 23/01/2023 17:34

I remember the days when to do a campaign like this you would want to do three campaigns aimed at different life stages to get maximum coverage. If you had to choose just two, you would not include a pick with the baby. You would pick an image of a woman who was of fairly indeterminant age.

The more I think about this campaign, the more I think it is a fail.

Women really are being failed in this campaign.

AlisonDonut · 23/01/2023 17:38

What even is a transgender man?

A man who is trans or a woman who is trans?

What is the point of this language?

How would someone know that they needed a smear test in the first place? How do you learn about cervixes in schools these days? Do they say 'some of you will need this but we arent allowed to explain who any more'

antipodeancanary · 23/01/2023 17:41

Eloradannin2nd · 23/01/2023 16:16

In regards to priorities, most women know about smears, the campaign is targeted at trans men who also may need smears.
I really dont see the problem. No-one is denying the female population, stop tying yourself up in knots getting offended.

Why the heck would trans men, who clearly know they are really women, as they have gone to the hassle of 'transing' not realise they need smear tests?? Of course they do. The people who actually miss out on smear tests are either the learning disabled or women who can't read English. Both groups need easy read information in simple English or another accessible format.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/01/2023 17:41

The point of this language is to encourage the people who use this language to have a smear test, even if they are reluctant to do so, despite knowing they have a cervix.

WilburTheIron · 23/01/2023 17:44

Also - doctor’s surgeries should know who to call based being designated as female in their records. Unless…

TheFallenMadonna · 23/01/2023 17:44

I absolutely agree that other hard to reach groups should also be targeted appropriately, of course.

This. And I highly doubt that this is actually coming from Trans Men themselves, in the main.

Myalternate · 23/01/2023 17:46

Wonder if some of the very confused people such as India Willoughby will be booking their tests. 🤔

Petrarkanian · 23/01/2023 17:49

Theunamedcat · 23/01/2023 17:11

I'm all for the "got a cervix? get a smear" campaign use a picture with everyone on it sorted

This excludes women with learning disabilities.

catandcoffee · 23/01/2023 17:52

Why is there a picture of a 'man" on the poster for cervix screening.

The advert for prostrate cancer checks has pictures of Men on them. And clearly has MEN written in big letters.

How very confusing for Women.😠

TheFallenMadonna · 23/01/2023 17:52

""Don't put it off"

"Get it done and get on with life"

We are working to make it as comfortable "as possible"

It's not aimed at people who don't know whether they have a cervix or not. It's about encouragement and reassurance for those who know they do, but might have other reasons for not attending.

Cazziebo · 23/01/2023 18:02

Eloradannin2nd · 23/01/2023 16:13

It's health promotion, intended to reach as many eligible people as possible. 🤷‍♀️
Seems pretty inclusive to me?

It's not inclusive at all. It's actually quite difficult to comprehend - especially within the audience who it's aimed at where literacy standards/language skills are not that proficient.

nilsmousehammer · 23/01/2023 18:08

If it's inclusive and just one aspect of several such posters, all of whom are aimed at different groups, then where are the other posters?

I don't think anyone is ever going to have a problem with a carefully and discreetly worded one for female people who have TQ+ identities, if it is one option alongside others designed to be very clearly worded and stated for other female people with other equally important access needs.

So where are they? Where is the diversity of provision? Accessibility is great, I'm all for it.

I'm not in favour of removing accessibility from some women to placate the TQ+ political lobby - which lets be real about this, this is what it is. The loudest and most powerful voices of which are male people who do not like any visibility or mention that womanhood is a biological reality.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/01/2023 18:11

I don't think it's supposed to be inclusive. I think it's aimed at a group who will definitely understand the language. I think there should be other resources targeting other hard to reach groups. And also reminders for easy to reach people, like me, to just get on and book one, which actually this whole thread is turning out to be, so....

Helleofabore · 23/01/2023 18:12

"I'm not in favour of removing accessibility from some women to placate the TQ+ political lobby - which lets be real about this, this is what it is. "

This is absolutely what this is.

The unequal treatment makes this obvious.

Let's make it very clear for one group of females. But the rest of you, nah. We will not put any effort in at all to make it either accessible for the maximum number of women OR approachable and relevant.

I am not surprised though that posters cannot see it. Particularly male posters.

What language?

If I am scrolling along, this looks to me like an ad aimed at new mothers.

I am not going to stop and read it.

Who do you think that this ad is going to remind?

TheFallenMadonna · 23/01/2023 18:17

Oh, sorry. I thought the ad in the OP was being referenced there.

Helleofabore · 23/01/2023 18:18

ah.... yes. that ad is better. I am talking about the second generic to all ad.

That is a very poor ad.

FuckNuggets · 23/01/2023 18:20

RedAndBlueStripedGolfingUmbrella · 23/01/2023 16:10

It clearly says it is for you if you're a woman assigned female at birth.
Regardless of if you don't want to call yourself that or not.

Can you circle the photo where woman is?

TheFallenMadonna · 23/01/2023 18:20

Yet I think most posters are objecting to the one in the OP.

FuckNuggets · 23/01/2023 18:21

Eloradannin2nd · 23/01/2023 16:25

There is also another advert aimed solely at women. But hey, lets ignore what doesn't fit the narrative??

It still doesn't say the word woman.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 23/01/2023 18:23

nilsmousehammer · 23/01/2023 17:26

Well that's going to get clear and accessible health information into the hands of women with EAL, learning difficulties, literacy challenges, other hard to reach groups of people who need to hear it. Isn't it? All the millions of them.

Over the tiny statistics of those who will be emotionally harmed without seeing their biological reality dressed up and disguised enough not to jar them.

But we're only talking about women, aren't we? Not even ones with interesting identities. Just boring old tax paying bleeders. They can either figure out the word salad or they're beneath contempt, right? Social justice and equality and accessibility and humanity is only for people who identify as TQ+ these days.
