"the Scottish government is likely to mount a legal challenge in response."

There's still a chance...

Anyway it would appear most gender-criticals are the older generation. Not to worry, just give it another couple of decades and you will find most of society will be LGBT+ supportive.

Even if it doesn't pass this time, it will in the not-too-distant future :)

I take it you haven't seen the thread where someone is asking the ages of people that are GC?

OvaHere · 16/01/2023 18:22

Beamur · 16/01/2023 18:02

Yep.
NS will milk this decision for political leverage.
Wouldn't be surprised if Rishi Sunak allows some leeway on the proposed legislation around conversation therapy as an appeasement though..
Good to see the wider debate and discussion though.

Yes I'm expecting this to come at the cost of pushing through the conversion therapy bill as Stonewall etc. want it to be.

So a battle won but the war rages on.

Pleased for Scottish women though. Much relief all round tonight.

PronounssheRa · 16/01/2023 18:23

Christ, I hope I have more than a couple of decades left 🤣

LampLamp · 16/01/2023 18:23

Almost like NS knew this would happen and was hoping to use the Westminister pushback to strengthen her indie campaign.

A black trans-women was stabbed to death in the US, believed to be the first transperson to fall victim to a violent hate crime in the US this year.

“Her murder is a reminder that trans lives, and particularly black trans lives, are under increasing threat as a wave of anti-trans legislation continues to sweep the US.
“Anti-trans legislators – and the media that enables them – spread misinformation and influence public attitudes, fuelling hate towards trans people,” Madeleine said.

rogdmum · 16/01/2023 18:23

I wonder how the Scottish Labour MSPs are feeling right now between this and Starmer expressing concern over the lowering of the age to 16 and not saying he would definitely oppose WM intervention…

Baldieheid · 16/01/2023 18:24

I can assure our PIEfaced friend that the public in Scotland knows males from females and won't be prepared to watch their children be spitroasted on the trans pyre, no matter what is politically at stake. Its possible to have independence AND equality for all, and I mean ALL. We just need politicians of calibre who can resist the pressure from other PIEfaces to twist the constitution to benefit PIEfaces to the detriment of all others.

Don't you want equality for all? Tilts head in girly manner....

Also I'm going to leave this here, for people who aren't clear on what the reforms actually are

Are you pleased that, according to your poster, men have always been able to Use women's toilets and have Access to women's shelters?

IveForgottenAgainFFS · 16/01/2023 17:49

So very happy for us all.

Assume this was intended to be used as an independence statement, do you think it'll fly as a reason or does the fact most Scots were against it make it a mute point.

Possibly an own goal? must be many people thankful for UK gov intervention.

Unlurking to say I couldn't agree more. I think NS is hoping this will be a push for independence, but she's miscalculated the public's view on it. Most are against and its going to harm them co e next election.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 16/01/2023 18:27

Starmer would be uncharacteristically 'brave' to support 16 years olds transitioning and explain why sex offenders need to change their legal sex.

Not what I heard.

John Curtice was probably lying then. Or maybe you just don't know what you're talking about. It's a tricky one.

It's a bad day for Marg to be on the MN TRA rotaBiscuit

How? By waiting until a couple hundred years after they die and then having an archeologist examine their pelvic bone? oh wait...

It's a minor setback, Scotland will get there in time :)

Is it possible that the UK government will have had advice from lawyers who know slightly more about this than whoever wrote your chart?

Nope. Neither of my teen kids nor any of their friends are woke. You're forgetting that they are seeing this at ground zero in scottish schools. They see the kids that are identifying into all the rubbish and see the mess it's making.

As my son said, it's all the attention seeking unpopular kids that identify as non binary.

I love the tv show Bones. She always looks at bones, not just the pelvic, and goes 'male' or 'female'. And don't go ' that is a tv show, just fiction', I mean your article was pink news, talking about fiction.....

Snowshower · 16/01/2023 18:32

I think NS has made a big mistake here. I am in Scotland and GC (and not old either).

I voted yes in the indy ref and have been an SNP and NS supporter in the past. As much as I would love Scotland to be independent, I can not and will not support independence under the current leadership. The GRR is terrible legislation and very unpopular.

Rather than being upset at the "mean" UK Government blocking this, I and I am sure many many others are desperate for the grown ups to step in and sort this mess out.

SueVineer · 16/01/2023 18:32

I’m an independence supporter but I despise the grr and can’t support the SNP anymore after such blatant misogyny. Im not the only person in this position

I know a lot of young people esp girls. None of them are remotely in favour of being made to feel uncomfortable by males in their spaces, none of them want boys in their races/teams/opponents when play and compete in sport. None of them want to be policed over language and be made to feel anxious at all times if they can't remember what pronouns to use for the person who changes them every day...

Age has nothing to do with the ability to recognise the harm gender woo does to women and girls.

Signalbox · 16/01/2023 18:34

When examining a skeleton, Osteoarchaeologists often consider both the physical characteristics of the skeleton, while also considering evidence of the person’s gender identity

Omg! Archaeologists have lost the plot too then?

Lol at quoting pink news on scientific facts!!!!

MargaritaPie · 16/01/2023 18:34

"She always looks at bones, not just the pelvic, and goes 'male' or 'female'"

These would be educated guesses. Even if you're an expert and can examine the entire skeleton all you have at best is an educated guess.

from above linked article:
"ATSU assistant professor and biological anthropologist Caroline VanSickle told AFP that professionals often cannot say with any certainty if an individual was male, female or other just by looking at their bones.

“We can offer a fairly educated guess, but even then we sometimes get the answer wrong or end up with inconclusive results,” VanSickle says.

She added there is currently “limited data” on how hormone replacement therapy (HRT) affects bone structure, which makes it even more tricky to define the facts about a centuries-old skeleton.

“We also lack methods to identify intersex individuals, who make up around two per cent of the population,” she added."
