Hallelujah indeed!! Awaiting her usual shite
"The people of Scotland will be heard, but only when they say what l want, fuck them the rest of the time"...

maltravers · 16/01/2023 17:56

Surely this will mean that the adverse effect on women is now properly discussed in the mainstream media? I hope so.

KateBalesCardi · 16/01/2023 17:58

Breathing a sigh of relief. Immediately followed by gathering new breath ready for fighting the next assault on women's rights, when will it bloody stop so we can have a rest?

DOBARDAN · 16/01/2023 17:58

Pleasing news

titchy · 16/01/2023 17:59

The cycnical part of me thinks the SNP rushed this through at the end of the year, hoping it would push the UK Government to do this.

That is exactly the reason they did this. Nothing to do with trans rights at all. Everything to do with Scottish independence.

highame · 16/01/2023 17:51

Seat belts on folks

Yep.
NS will milk this decision for political leverage.
Wouldn't be surprised if Rishi Sunak allows some leeway on the proposed legislation around conversation therapy as an appeasement though..
Good to see the wider debate and discussion though.

littlbrowndog · 16/01/2023 18:03

Yay ✊✊✊

SirChenjins · 16/01/2023 18:03

Thank god. A long road ahead, but for those of us in Scotland it shines a light on the dangers that this presents to women and girls here and across the UK - far too many people aren’t really aware of the ramifications.

Fififafa · 16/01/2023 18:05

Good news, however I think NS was hoping that this would happen. She was hoping to use the UK government’s veto, to bolster the SNPs case for independence. Self-ID isn’t that popular in Scotland. Didn’t 2/3rd of Scots polled oppose the bill? Think she may have misjudged this and Trans/anti-women laws aren’t as popular in Scotland as she thinks they are.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 16/01/2023 18:07

Will Sturgeon get independence though.
Scottish public are clear that they didn't want or vote for this utter shitshow that wasn't in any manifesto.

The gender genie is well and truly out of the bottle. The public have finally woken up to the batshit being pushed in schools and in laws.

Signalbox · 16/01/2023 18:08

So presumably this will end up in the Supreme Court. That’ll be interesting. Could this lead to more clarification on what things actually mean in law.

Baldieheid · 16/01/2023 18:10

Good. As for NS, she might as well just retire now because nobody is ever going to listen to that wee bampot ever again beyond her buttlicking cronies.

I'm amusing myself imagining Maggie Chapman's inevitable chimp out.

dcbc1234 · 16/01/2023 18:11

Great news. So my Scottish Conservative MP retains my vote in 2024. Only UK party not 99 percent in thrall to 'flat earthing' gender identity ideology.

LizzieSiddal · 16/01/2023 18:13

The Scottish minister for Uk government has said he hopes there will amendments of the Scottish bill, which the UK government can work with.

I wonder what amendments he wants?!

MargaritaPie · 16/01/2023 18:13

"the Scottish government is likely to mount a legal challenge in response."

There's still a chance...

Anyway it would appear most gender-criticals are the older generation. Not to worry, just give it another couple of decades and you will find most of society will be LGBT+ supportive.

Even if it doesn't pass this time, it will in the not-too-distant future :)

LizzieSiddal · 16/01/2023 18:13

Regarding my above post, the Statements was read on R4 news by Evan Davis.

Fladdermus · 16/01/2023 18:15

I've got splinters from this one.

I'm absolutely cheering on this decision because this law terrifies for me. Especially as the parent of a non gender conforming autistic child.

But at the same, the constitutional issues it will explode also worries me. I'm a firm believer in the legal principle of subsidiarity (devolution of power) but at the same time the law is nuts. Arrgh, this fence sitting hurts my head.

MargaritaPie · 16/01/2023 18:15

Also I'm going to leave this here, for people who aren't clear on what the reforms actually are

Scotland may well find a lot more people will now start supporting independence because of this.

LizzieSiddal · 16/01/2023 18:18

Anyway it would appear most gender-criticals are the older generation.

Listening to R4 PM programme just now, the statistician Sir John Curtis was on who said only 30% of Scottish people supported this bill. I’m sure the other 70% are NOT all old.

PronounssheRa · 16/01/2023 18:18

I'm a bit tragic so decided to read the relevant sections of the Scotland act.

This seems like a pretty clear cut example of what section 35 was written for. The Scottish Parliament have passed a law which impacts the EA and therefore has impacts outside of Scotland

I'm sure sturgeon will play it as 'look at the mean English stopping us from implementing our own laws', but could you imagine her reaction if the opposite happened.

Greyhave · 16/01/2023 18:20

Great news!

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 16/01/2023 18:20

Fantastic news!

Not what I heard.

Endpress · 16/01/2023 18:21

Pleased. Although recognise it’s probably just an independence ploy.
