Chief Constable Iain Livingstone has used the acronym MAP (minor attracted Person) in an annual assessment of the force's work with a European project. We've all wondered what the + is in LGB and TQIA+ haven't we? Well perhaps now we know. As the Telegraph says: ^The term MAP is contentious because child abusers are trying to escape the stigma attached to paedophilia and maintain they should be regarded as a niche group alongside the LGBT community.^ As a member of the LGB community I object. @ClitoralViolence Oh I only found out about handsy happy GP with the hour long child abuse videos and over 25000 images, ffs, after it hit the press, it was, by all accounts, wasnt there so not sure of how his case all panned out kept rather quiet.

Wonder if the coverage and the sentence would have been the same if it was that dodgy unkempt bloke called Trevor the brickie with a cse in woodwork an IQ of 87 and no means of paying for a fancy solicitor

Re-branding it as preference is vile & disgusting, and that is exactly what this is about. There's a real movement to try and make paedophilia acceptable and make paedophiles portrayed as poor misunderstood souls. There was that glowing review by I think NYT of a play that was sympathetic to paedophiles.

MAP is such a non-descript description. Also we don't use the term Minor in this country for children so would be meaningless and it doesn't make sense.

We know exactly where we are with the word paedophile. Even older (and some younger) children know what it means. That's all to the good.

I am so so angry he got the sentence he did. his patients and friends wrote letters of support for him. Te'll me his position in the community had nothing to do with his sentence. As far as I'm aware they actually stopped counting h ow many images he had because there was so many.

Mine is men who are late 20s or older who prey on girls who are only just at the legal age for sex and the people who think that is ok, or a million miles away from the ones who are abusing 15 year olds. They are just as bad in my opinion.

Rather than lowering the bar of how we identify these paedophiles we should be raising it.
