Scottish police use Minor Attracted Person instead of 'paedophile' in report

Chief Constable Iain Livingstone has used the acronym MAP (minor attracted Person) in an annual assessment of the force's work with a European project.

We've all wondered what the + is in LGB and TQIA+ haven't we? Well perhaps now we know. As the Telegraph says:

The term MAP is contentious because child abusers are trying to escape the stigma attached to paedophilia and maintain they should be regarded as a niche group alongside the LGBT community.

Twitter has been accused of aiding child abuse by allowing paedophiles to openly organise and form associations on its service.

The social network lets users discuss their "attraction towards minors" and talk about child abuse as a phenomenon as long as they do not "promote or glorify" actual child abuse "in any way".

The result has been to create an online home for self-declared "non-offending" paedophiles, who often call themselves "minor-attracted persons" (MAPs) and declare their "age of attraction" in their user profiles.

That people are 'um, ackshually', about getting the terminology correct!? This thread is making me sad. For the children. Because of the 'splainers (auto corrupt wanted 'splatters', which would serve). And the others, who know who they are.

Agree. We have a word, everyone understands what it means, everyone is repulsed by what this person is/does.

It’s gobsmackingly offensive to all victims of abuse to use other terminology that muddies or softens the meaning.

Actually I do have one final final comment to make. As the example I gave in my earlier post shows these men, and it mostly is men, may have a preference for their ideal age, looks eye colour, but then don't we all.

Do you honestly truly think, for one minute, that some perv who claims he's only attracted to under or over a certain age and only children of a particular sex wouldn't take whatever and I mean whatever they could get if it was on offer and they knew there was 100% chance of getting caught?

These people can't be "cured".

They will always be abusers and will take any opportunity they can to do so. This has been demonstrated over and over.

They are now instead trying to convince people that their abuse is ok. Or that they can limit their abuse to certain parameters (they can't) and only abuse a subset of children and that is ok.

Hebephilia and ephebophiia are terms coined by paedophiles in an attempt to neutralise the full horror of their actions. I either read something or watched a documentary about the origins of those two words and they are very much part of the queer narrative and were used to make age distinctions when peadophiles were trying to argue for lowering the age of consent.

However people understand or may come to understand MAP it opens the door to it's "benign" partner NoMAP, we should not allow ourselves to be persuaded that any expression of attraction to children is benign.

Paedophile works for me and I don't care if it upsets child rapists.

This is what is wrong.

In what society is that an appropriate punishment for child abuse? Let alone on this prolific scale.

It's bad enough already. Hardly any get convicted. Most people don't report because they know this. And then those that do report go through all that trauma, for that?

We need to start imposing 20 year+ sentences on these people and even them they need to be released to secure wings of mental institutions, never let out into society again.

I am so so angry he got the sentence he did. his patients and friends wrote letters of support for him. Te'll me his position in the community had nothing to do with his sentence. As far as I'm aware they actually stopped counting h ow many images he had because there was so many.

The judge suspended the sentence because he thought he could be rehabilitated, FFS, 17000 images collected over 10 years!

My personal favourite...."previous outstanding character", err you are not of good character if you are collecting child abuse images; the world just wasn't aware you were scum.
