Scottish police use Minor Attracted Person instead of 'paedophile' in report

Chief Constable Iain Livingstone has used the acronym MAP (minor attracted Person) in an annual assessment of the force's work with a European project.

We've all wondered what the + is in LGB and TQIA+ haven't we? Well perhaps now we know. As the Telegraph says:

The term MAP is contentious because child abusers are trying to escape the stigma attached to paedophilia and maintain they should be regarded as a niche group alongside the LGBT community.

@Boiledbeetle and all the victims of paedos, all the love. I was but I was 12-14 so obviously it doesn't count. (He died alone in hospital, well not completely alone because one of his friends visited him. The friend also raped children. He had severe emphasema (sp?) and fought for breath. That makes me happy).

Anyway. I can sometimes be a stickler for language. I'm fascinated by linguistics, the history of language, etc. I like things to be accurate. But, oh a big old BUT. Language evolves, it changes and usage is often a part of that. I'm aware of the different words, hebephilia (11-14), ephebophilia (can be over the age of consent) and one I've just learned, infantophilia, children under 5. How much does all of this mean in general usage? Sweet fuck all. We know that most people understand the word paedophilia to mean attracted to underage children. Arguing the toss about it is frankly pathetic. MAP can fuck off. People who think it's a good idea can also fuck off although with slightly more kindness for those who are prepared to think on.

Not sure if I've properly articulated this, so again: MAP can fuck right off.
