Okay, so I'd like some good old reasoning on this as I appreciate a lot of you are more insightful than me!

I believe men have 0 place in women's toilets, changing families or women only spaces.

But this tripped me up... what do I say to this? It popped up on twitter and I don't know what to argument would be

This woman was questioned because she looks too masculine. But she is indeed a biological woman through and through

What is the answer? I just don't know

If a very masculine presenting person who was wearing a name badge with a male name on and they/them pronouns was in the women's toilets, I would certainly ask them if they were in the right place.

But only 125 trans inmates (TW & TM & NB).

Yet millions of GNC women and girls….

The threat requiring such actions seems grossly overestimated.

  1. Not all reported sex offences result in the conviction and incarceration.
  2. The MoJ doesn't keep comprehensive records of the reassignment status of those who are inside.
  3. Just because someone is GNC (maybe cuts her hair short and wears baggy clothes for example), it doesn't automatically follow that they aren't clearly female.
  4. Some GNC women on here have said that they have been challenged but accepted it as a minor inconvenience, and recognised that they were challenged because women are worried about their safety.
  5. One woman or child attacked is a woman or child too many.
Rainbowshit · 30/12/2022 01:45

Funny how the "I'm as GC as the next person" poster is struggling to see the image but no one else is. 🤔

Taylor isn’t a male name, just ask Taylor Swift.
Besides, who wears their work name badge when visiting public toilets?

Would you still challenge if no name badge?

Onnabugeisha · 30/12/2022 01:40

But where is the evidence this is actually preventing sexual assault?

I almost ended up on a Jury for a case where an attempted rape was only stopped because another woman entered the toilet and challenged him.

I've challenged before, so yes.
The woman I challenged was instantly recognisable as a woman as soon as she spoke.
I apologised and she said it happens a lot and not to worry.
No harm done.

No harm done to you….you can’t speak for her.

LK1972 · 30/12/2022 01:49

@EvilBee Why are you popping up here, haven't you been all over FWR threads telling us you're a transwoman? Do you think you shouldn't be challenged in women's loos either?

'Vigilante women' 🤣

Was this a transwoman? If not, how is it even relevant? I was assaulted by a man in the womens toilets….he didn’t need a skirt and wig to gain access.

"Policing", "vigilante"...

What a load of ridiculous hyperbole used to refer to someone simply asking "are you sure that you're in the right place?"

It’s not hyperbole.
Policing by Vigilantes = citizens taking the law in their own hands or acting contrary to the law.

That’s what is happening.

She spoke for herself.
She came and chatted to me after she came out the toilets. A butch lesbian on a night out with a bunch of men.
She went in after my young child so I wanted to be certain she was female.
She was lovely and said she gets asked frequently and isn't bothered.

DdraigGoch · 30/12/2022 01:51

Or more likely she’s just being polite so she can get away from you.

What's the difference between a man and a transwoman?

Should someone have challenged the man who assaulted you, or just let him get on with it in case they offended someone?

No it's not, don't be ridiculous.

EvilBee · 30/12/2022 01:54

Perhaps trans people could wear badges of some sort for you?

LK1972 · 30/12/2022 01:54

Well, @Onnabugeisha , Tiffany, as they/them now prefers to be known, also wasn't wearing skirt or wigs, as these apparently make Tiffany feel 'inauthentic', so your 'I was assaulted by a man in the womens toilets….he didn’t need a skirt and wig to gain access.' makes fuck all sense.

I thought your lot could tell in an instant…are you saying you cannot tell the difference between a cis-man and a transwoman?

skilpadde · 30/12/2022 01:55

It is a peculiar thing.

The original articles were in the local press on 5th/6th December with a photo clearly displaying the name badge, including they/them pronouns.

Now the details are appearing in the national press with a new spin, and the name badge curiously blanked out, almost as if it is inconvenient.

I hope that the person, having had a mastectomy due to cancer, is not being exploited by people who have a particular agenda.
