@GussetGripper

Do take a bow! (At least, I really think this is you?!)

Cats can sense things. I'm guessing he's having a chat with some other cats about the weird vibe he's getting from you as your eyes flick between him and the scissors.

'That woman I live with is being odd. Mind you, she's heavily scented with mint and cheese at the moment so that gives me a good heads up when she's close'.

ODFOx · 24/12/2022 21:25

When they go low, I thought we were supposed to go high.
Wtf was she thinking?
'I'm concerned about the privacy of women so I'll get my fake vag out in parliament?'

You are my cat aren't you. Get back in here...

He's got a sixth sense with the scissors, he knows when I'm about to try to attack him to cut his furball clumps off him.

But he'd make a really soft strokable(!!!) Merkin. Maybe I can dose him up on catnip, dreamies and Felix goody bags and wait until he's zonked out and snoring.

I shall have to place scissors strategically close to his main 10 snoozing areas.

Context! It's all about the context. There are posts earlier on in this thread that will walk you through it.

Merry Christmas.

A protest which has to be explained to be understood, unless you are in the know already, is more like an in-joke.

What about if a surgically altered transwoman wore tights and a merkin and flashed?

If a surgically altered TW wearing tights and a merkin lifted their skirt then fine. They haven't flashed anything and neither did the woman in parliament.

And as for the first bit, it's not other people's fault if you, not you you, general population you, didn't know the history behind it but then go and look to see why she did what she did then great.

She lifted her skirt to show clothes underneath. There are transwomen doing so much worse at rallies but this is what your getting your knickers in a twist about?

Oh yeah - 'high'.

Please fill out this complaint form in triplicate, using a black Biro, and capital letters, and mail it off, and we'll get back to you.

Please allow three years for delivery, and fifteen to twenty years for a response.

And thank you for going high.

Score!

What, as opposed to walking around with their cock out, in the face of a nine-year-old, in a spa?

Hmmm.

This. It doesn’t add anything to our argument and makes us look as crackers as they are.

A protest action that requires esoteric knowledge to be interpreted is a failed protest.

The only people that this protest will appeal to are people who are already high on the farts of GC ideology.

Oher · 24/12/2022 23:09

crunchermuncher · 22/12/2022 23:15

Indeed!

Even when being told there is #nodebate, being talked over and ignored, women are supposed to be 'ladylike 'and are held to a higher standard of behaviour than any man.

Interesting that one of the detractors above mentions her being middle aged.

They just can't help themselves from spewing sexism and ageism , can they? Would it have been ok if she was younger and looking traditionally sexy?

Women: know your place! You must be ladylike, obedient, silent, young and fuckable at all times!

Just piss off!

Yep this was my reaction too.

Thelnebriati · 24/12/2022 23:14

people who are already high on the farts of GC ideology is an offensive way to describe women's history.
How privileged do people have to be to think its ok to cherry pick bits of our history and only keep the nice stuff? Witches and lady spies are cool, we'll keep them.

It's not women's privacy she was railing about. It was rape in sex segregated spaces, she says so in her speech. Not that you need to listen to it to understand the issues were greater than privacy.

You simoly can not seem to post on this board with any sense of positive engagement can you? Your deep prejudice and disdain against people who disagree with you is palpable.

In any case, what does it matter if this was a rallying call to woman across the world? If Elaine, a woman known for her gentle humour and her tireless work to help women strengthen their pelvic floor muscles, to give their health and dignity back, lifts her skirt to show a merkin shown on to tights, it certainly signals to woman that the work needs to step up yet another notch.

Show she showed a merkin attached to her tights, and she was very succinct in her carefully chosen words. Did you notice how at the end she called them ‘terrible, terrible people’?

Do you think women around Scotland noticed her restraint in the language she used to go with that act?

That is not the signs of a deranged woman delivering a failed or even ‘estoteric’ protest. That was part rallying call, delivered by a woman who wears a vagina suit for work, part protest of a woman who delivered a shock that was not actually indecent that would capture attention.

Or maybe, just maybe those who thought this was ‘indecent’ actually thought that she showed her ‘vagina’ or even her ‘vulva’ because they have not ever brought themselves to understand female anatomy. That someone would think that would be a woman’s natural pubic hair (still showing a lack of knowledge about the real female lived experience in this era of pornification) is remarkable. Almost as remarkable as the article saying she exposed her ‘genitals’! Plus they seemed to have missed the multiple facets of this particular action - like the Glasgow witches, like the dinosaurs that pop up everywhere.

The shock value was that she lifted her skirt. That she was fully covered means people are talking about her words, not her arousal at the fact she urinated on herself while dressed as the opposite sex. Not that she stripped naked and played the piano with her fully exposed genitals. Not that people who will have been traumatised by being told to ‘suck trans dick!’. Not that she physically assaulted someone by violence. Certainly not a protest with a baseball bat painted with the trans flag. Or a group of people blocking access to a film or a seminar or a debate.

No. She, a woman and all the symbolism of women doing this in the past, actually lifted her skirt and showed the world …. a merkin! Then delivered a statement that was talking about how the government just treated vulnerable women.

By also symbolically making herself vulnerable! A fact that most women will have subconsciously picked up on even if it took time to process it.

No. As an adult human female, I understood her action, even if I didn’t know the historical significance. It is not hard to understand this.

Posters also seem to ignore that the women were checked at security for wearing the very hateful haberdashery. I doubt her known vagina outfit would have been allowed into the gallery.

This was not a ‘failed’ protest. Far from it.

But I did laugh at the derisory attempt to deliver a ‘gotcha’ . Well, fuck, it was a rallying call to women?? Gee! Who would have thought that possible! What a clever ‘gotcha’ that was!

Of course. But why are women held to such a massively higher standard than men?

Protesting using a wig and tights really isn't in the same ball park as masked men spitting at women, breaking their fingers and excitedly screaming that they're going to beat women up, or banging on windows yelling burn it down or getting aroused at pouring urine on themselves.

It just isn't. And yet because her protest was not kept within narrowly sanctioned (and entirely unknowable) limits, it's deemed just as bad.

When it clearly isn't.

Helleofabore · 25/12/2022 05:26

I have just read this thread through again and I am gobsmacked by how many posters, many have said they are female, who have seemingly forgotten the symbolism here.

A woman lifting her skirt is NOT doing this from a position of POWER as a man does to show their fucking penis!!!!

Fuck!! That this needs to pointed out on a feminism chat board.

Yes, there is the historical context of defiance.

There is also the symbolism here that this brave woman was absolutely reminding the world of the basis of women’s oppression!!

Her very female body!!!!

This act of defiance was multifaceted.

A reminder of the starkness that is how very vulnerable female people are.

There was no attempt to dress up that femaleness, she didn’t adorn it with a flag or anything. Just a merkin that looked as if it was a thatch of pubic hair. However, she also was NOT nude.

She also was brave bearing even what she did as a reminder that women’s bodies are created in all shapes and sizes, particularly after birthing children.

FFS!!! how many posts on this thread have compared her act with ‘flashing’, with male nudity, and its symbolic or its very real show of power? Is this what the constant objectification of woman has done?

Or is this some people’s mistaken belief that women should always be treated ‘equally’, in that showing a symbolic merkin is absolutely the same level of power and oppression as a penis or even a replica penis?

No! The female body is the one that is vulnerable in ways that male bodies are not.

And she was not arousing herself by doing it! There was no sexualised element here.

How bizarre has this movement become that this woman’s protest has been sexualised the way it has?

Helleofabore · 25/12/2022 05:32

The lack of proportionality on this thread is clearly an indication that some people really seem to have become polarised in their view.

That a non-sexual, non-violent, protest is treated the same way as the sexual, violent protests from males is concerning to see.

Boiledbeetle · 25/12/2022 06:27

This thread is certainly showing up the double standards set for men and women's behaviour. It's concerning that at the end of 2022 we are at a point where women are still being expected to sit down, shut up, and take whatever crumbs we are allowed.

It's also a shocking show of the level of general education and a seemingly odd refusal to learn anything.

To the wonderful Elaine Miller I hope you have the most fannytastic Christmas. May all your presents be merkins x

And to the rest of you wonderful women, even the ones that I don't agree with A Merry Christmas to you all.

Now I must start on my plan to feed the cat into a treat stupor so that I can harvest his fur for my merkin

Boiled x

Amen to this!

I still cannot "get" this protest, despite the many posts, and I cannot for the life of me work out what I'm missing, which is making my brain ache!

But I'd love to be proven wrong, and I can see that Elaine is incredibly brave, and I'm glad that it's brought joy to many here. Happy Christmas all and hope you have a lovely day.

But many of us understood it, knew what was being referred to in both speech and merkin.

And why swivel directly to some hypothetical transwoman?

This was a female political protest. Try listening, learning something instead of all that feigned ignorance and whataboutery!
