This is an experimental thread, all input much appreciated!

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

And these young women seem frequently unaware of the very real immediate dangers and pitfalls of doing webcam or only fans.

Not only the chances of it throwing a grenade into your life (I saw a recent case where a teacher in the news who's only fans was found by her teenage students and passed around the school), but the danger to your person as well. I bet a lot of these women wouldn't be that hard to track down IRL if the men are tech savvy and determined which is really scary to think about.

No it's not complicated at all, no women who is a prostitute is ever really safe. You are disgusting.

Rather than typing on a feminist board, making excuses for sex buyers and hoping that users here will grant you absolution, I suggest you do something to atone instead. Put Rachel Moran's powerful comment into practice. There are a number of projects and charities that help women to exit prostitution, and/or provide support services to women in prostitution. I've spent £100 this week on purchasing required items for my local service, and I've never even considered paying a woman to serve me sexually.

I just happened to know women who chose a means to earn money, whilst being in control of their environment

I also knew a heroin addict who died from an overdose after getting into prostitution, she was one of my best friends

Yes, and of course the risk of it being recorded and circulated. I do know someone who did this kind of work and she said a lot of it was about humiliation, along the lines of being asked to do increasingly ridiculous and degrading things.

I also suspect that many people who do this kind of work probably do tell others that it’s fine, because, well, nobody wants to admit how shit everything really might be. And it’s that whole idea of selling a skill or a talent. Women lie to men. To please them or to tell them what they think they want to hear.

I also don't think it matters, nor should we have to justify our close relations or not with anyone who is in prostitution.

As women we are supremely qualified to judge the harms done by prostitution and the men who use prostitutes. We see it all the time. You have demonstrated it here tonight by calling it sex work and touting it as safe and aspirational.

It's not about view or opinions, but knowing the motivation or coercion and protection (or not) of sex workers

Yes the degradation and humiliation aspect was another thing I was thinking in terms of how it's not even so straight forward awful as just having someone stick their appendage in you.

The mental toll it takes on a person is a massive part of the damage prostitution, cam or only fans do.

So tell us. These women, they had loving families, and were educated enough to get well paying jobs, no drug dependencies, they had accommodation that was safe and clean and they had all the options that women should have?
