The WI non-members questionnaire: quick and easy to make your point

The WI is concerned that numbers are falling and fewer and fewer women are signing up. It doesn't seem to have occurred to them that women aren't keen on so-called women's organisations that accept men. Quick, easy and loads of room to say what you want.

I checked the WI policy and it states that those 'living as a woman' may join. It is clear cross dressers are not accepted.

The usual questions spring unbidden to my mind (which is now very well trained in these matters):

  1. Can they define 'living as a woman'?
  2. How can they tell the difference between a TW and a cross dresser?
Feckedupbundle · 02/12/2022 21:02

Done. When asked why I wouldn't consider joining,I pointed out that I refuse to join a supposedly 'women only' organisation that allows men who identify as women to join and that stating that it's women only is untruthful.

pattihews · 02/12/2022 21:08

Please forward to all the GC women you know.

Done. Made the point that they say they are for women but allow men who like wearing lipstick to join, and don't know what a woman is.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/12/2022 21:12

Done Xmas Smile

Theeyeballsinthesky · 02/12/2022 21:12

I very much enjoyed telling them that I wouldn’t join as long as they accepted men who identify as women as members. I note the last page happily tells you they include transgender women 🤦🏻‍♀️

Rightsraptor · 02/12/2022 21:14

I also told them why I won't be joining. Let the TW have at it.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 02/12/2022 21:17

Yup I have done it too and told them when I want single sex spaces I want them to be what they say they are.

stupid WI. Why so keen to include men when your whole purpose is women. Why is their self esteem so low and their need for male validation so high?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 02/12/2022 21:30

I had a look at it out of curiosity. Not only do they not know what a woman is but their history/geography is sadly lacking.

In the question "what part of the UK do you live in" they include Ireland as well as Northern Ireland. The Women's Institute do not exist in Ireland. We have the Irish Countrywomen's Association. I suspect they know what a woman is.

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 02/12/2022 21:39

Thanks for this, I’ve just completed it.

NotRightNowNo · 02/12/2022 21:42

Thank you, I have told them what I think & shared it.

Abitofalark · 02/12/2022 21:48

Not only does the WI think Ireland is in the UK and includes it in a question but it told us at the beginning of the survey that the WI is the largest women's organisation in the UK and at the same time that it is in England and Wales and islands - Jersey and I think, Isle of Man. If that's the case, it's not a UK organisation: it's not in Northern Ireland, which makes it a GB + some islands organisation (Isle of Man and Channel Islands are not in the UK either - they are self-ruled Crown Dependencies - their relationship is with the British Crown, not the entity that is the UK.)

Boiledbeetle · 02/12/2022 21:58

You know I didn't think anything was going to top the mermaids CC decision to investigate today, but that was soooooooo satisfying to fill in. Like a nice brandy at the end of a good meal.

Its not often I get to say auto..... And penises in a survey.

Thanks for that OP

Boiledbeetle · 02/12/2022 22:00

I don't about the rest of you but I am their target age.

Big mistake. Huge!

ChateauMargaux · 02/12/2022 22:03

@OchonAgusOchonOh .. I am not so sure - The Irish Countrywomen's association is a member of the National Women's Council who clearly state:

"By ‘woman’ we refer to any person who identifies as a woman.'

Cornelious · 02/12/2022 22:06

Done

magicalorange · 02/12/2022 22:07

Done. Emphasised that as they allow male bodied people (aka MEN) I consider them to be hypocritical in calling themselves a women's organisation and I would not join.

HappyBackHome · 02/12/2022 22:08

Done. They need to put the second half of the questions at the start - I had to go back and redo a lot of questions as I took their statement about the WI being a woman-only organisation at face value...until I realised they have no idea what a woman is!

ChateauMargaux · 02/12/2022 22:12

Did anyone offer to join a discussion?

drum123 · 02/12/2022 22:14

Couldn't agree more, boiledbeetle. That was fun!

That's disappointing. There is nothing on their website about it.

Done
And volunteered for a focus group - that could be fun.....

WI is (or certainly used to be) very big in NI.

EdithStourton · 02/12/2022 22:31

A friend shared it on FB earlier.

I went off on one rather about the meaning of 'woman'. Took me a while to get it off my chest.
