The WI non-members questionnaire: quick and easy to make your point

The WI is concerned that numbers are falling and fewer and fewer women are signing up. It doesn't seem to have occurred to them that women aren't keen on so-called women's organisations that accept men. Quick, easy and loads of room to say what you want.

Thanks for sharing

That survey is a load of tosh... and it is well signposted, as the first first question asks where you have heard of the WI... "Advertising at an event e.g. Pride, The Knitting & Stitching Show".
Pride? for flips sake... an anti-lesbian, fetish enabling event. No thank you.

My patience for this, this failure to do some difficult thinking and this failure to set boundaries, is wearing thin.

That's before ever you get on to the "identifying as part of an ethnic group", or their weak knowledge of Geography.

I want to re-do it now, and link to this thread in my answers.

Really...., I know people like to be led by the nose for the most part, but, if you want a leadership role in any area, it behoves you to do the hard work of thinking first.

Datun · 04/12/2022 10:54

When completing, can you tell them it's perfectly legal for them to exclude transwomen. Mention Sex Matters or FPFW if they need the exact wording but stress it's entirely acceptable.

Because, I've no doubt they've been told it isn't.

GrimDamnFanjo · 04/12/2022 12:22

I did it. I just found the section about trans women an utterly bizarre addition.
Mind you, when I thing about perhaps they are wondering if they should "do a scouts" and go mixed sex to solve their membership issues.

I checked the WI policy and it states that those 'living as a woman' may join. It is clear cross dressers are not accepted.

The usual questions spring unbidden to my mind (which is now very well trained in these matters):

  1. Can they define 'living as a woman'?
  2. How can they tell the difference between a TW and a cross dresser?

FFS. The ONLY way to 'live as a woman' is to (a) have been born female and (b) to have reached adulthood.

This is simple. Or ...... it should be!

FunctionalSkills · 04/12/2022 12:46

Seems a sure way to put people off joining to emphaise at the end that it's trans women and women!

HermioneWeasley · 04/12/2022 12:48

they are pointless as are the WEP

AutumnCrow · 04/12/2022 21:35

You can do the survey multiple times, it looks like. Poor design and implementation.

If you want to join a focus group, it said (from memory) to email their membership team with 'focus group' in the subject heading.

I was a member but the 2021 summer article on Petra saw me leave. The "celebration" of a man "leaving" his wife Lorraine left me cold.

I attended a group where a woman had been abused by her ex, the WI was initially a safe space for women to socialise. This is no longer the case.

Women are Adult Females, the WI is a mockery of all that we have fought for.

Yes, and presumably if "Petra" joins, then his wife can't.

StellaAndCrow · 05/12/2022 23:56

And it's different from a mixed sex group, in that we know that any transwoman who joins WI rather than a mixed sex group is making a point and transgressing boundaries, or at least being very thoughtless.

saraclara · 06/12/2022 00:00

It's not as if any of you would have joined anyway. So their trans position has nothing at all to do with you not joining, making the whole questionnaire entirely useless.

How do you know none of would have joined? We are their target demographic. I might like the WI if was a single sex space.

Xiaoxiong · 06/12/2022 06:42

@saraclara rtft, there are ex-members on here who left over this.

I'm a PTA member because I have young school age kids but once they are older, I'll be looking for a new thing that is community oriented and always thought the WI would be a natural next step (they meet in the evening right at dinner time so the kids will have to be older before I can come along).

But I won't be used as a validating prop for anyone.

I was a member, I left when ‘Petra’ was the cover story of the WI magazine

I left too following "Petra", all the WI women to celebrate on their front cover and they celebrated a man

Jacopo · 06/12/2022 08:45

I was going to join, Petra made me decide not to.

HermioneWeasley · 06/12/2022 09:29

@Jacopo me too - I was about to go with a friend who’s a member when that happened, and yet again I get to use this wonderful meme

The WI non-members questionnaire: quick and easy to make your point
ButterflyBiscuit · 06/12/2022 09:30

It would be great if WI could see our response.

It seems so strange that the trans agenda has infiltrated so many women's only areas at such a high level.

StellaOlivetti · 06/12/2022 09:42

Done.

Xiaoxiong · 06/12/2022 09:56

It seems so strange that the trans agenda has infiltrated so many women's only areas at such a high level.

It's not strange, it's completely intentional - what better way to have your identity validated than to have single sex spaces opened to you - if you are invited in, you don't have to invade. It makes the women who are already there your unwitting and unconsenting props. Hence targeting leadership at any single-sex organisation to "be kind" etc.

Jacopo · 06/12/2022 10:04

@HermioneWeasley great meme, a good response to instructions to “be kind”.

viques · 06/12/2022 10:09

That was very satisfying, surprisingly you can make the point about an organisation for women not knowing what a woman is in quite a few ways.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 06/12/2022 10:20

StellaAndCrow · 03/12/2022 13:21

Interesting that "where did you hear of WI" literally the first option is Pride!

I saw that and thought WTF?? Who on earth associates WI with Pride? And what on earth does the WI have to do with Pride?

I'm fed up of all organisations taking on some kind of social justice role. What's wrong with making jam, cakes and sloe gin?

I don't think the WI has the fight in it to reverse to a reality-based women's organisation, at which point it will probably wither and die. Central office will be populated by people completely removed from the grass roots, as per Guides.

FunctionalSkills · 06/12/2022 10:29

Its a very similar story to the guides one isn't it 😔. All that history that gets lost as an organisation erodes.

Helleofabore · 06/12/2022 10:33

"Pride' is not even the first if it was alphabetically ordered.

I think the WI was signalling all the way through their survey. I actually doubt they want to know the answers to the questions they asked. They are seeking confirmation of their decisions.
