StephanieSuperpowers · 27/11/2022 20:18

I also did a double take, especially as I don't think the Pixiedust we know is especially on board with our views!

Hello merrylus!

bignosebignose · 27/11/2022 20:19

I hesitated to comment on something I read earlier but there have been a couple of references to the old place since I saw it, and we are indeed still Finding Our Feet and will before too long stop regularly referring back to it but one thing that struck me over there today was a poster who I’ve always liked saying (I’m paraphrasing) that this will all be water under the bridge a year from now (on that board), it’s not really an important subject and that even on a Good Educated People Board like that, most people are barely even aware of it.

I wanted to say “um, yes, that’s the point - and by the way, keep your eyes open for Mermaids, Tavistock/ Cass and the ScotGov over the next 12 months” but that would just have confirmed me as a troublemaker. So I will just quietly mutter it here instead.

yumyum33 · 27/11/2022 20:20

Help, I can't keep up. It's like going from living in a one cottage hamlet to being in Oxford Circus.

<Does a drive-by tooting very loudly>

You'll get the hang of it yumyum (Madam The Dog sends love in case you're confused who is who). Stay with it.

otraynor · 27/11/2022 20:28

Yes it is vast,, yumyum.

ExiledElsie · 27/11/2022 20:33

So excited to see you here yumyum!

dollymixedup · 27/11/2022 20:37

Yes lovely to see you @yumyum33

I like the idea of a lifeboat thread in chat.

I had to smile at that. So much affected disinterest. Such an unimportant topic. That’s the poster who stormed off the feminist thread with the following denunciation for its posters a couple of years ago when we failed to yield to his stunning insights:

“As a radical feminist friend of mine (and former partner) wrote yesterday elsewhere, it's clearly a generational thing. I'm not going to bother you any more on here, at least not on this subject, because it's going nowhere. You're not open to discussion, you're not prepared to seriously consider new ideas. You would rather turn your backs on thousands of young people who are seizing new opportunities to be who they feel most comfortable being, whether they started life with the secondary sexual characteristics of a female or a male, and you point blank refuse to find any room in your hearts for them. Shame on you.”

Another man who doesn’t realise women may have been thinking about these issues for rather longer than he has, and we are quite capable of deciding for ourselves what is important to our lives.

But as you say, must stop referring back. I am a terrible one for scratching a wound.

weaseleyes · 27/11/2022 20:49

I haven't quite been able to stop having the odd look back at the other board. I can't help but be irritated at all the talk about preserving this unique place etc etc without any recognition that all the dreadful people they've been so glad to see the back of helped make it that place.
Ah well. I have been mainly in lurker mode there and here for years. Will try to be a bit more active.

Saskihahaha · 27/11/2022 20:52

Off topic.
Are there any vegetarians here? I just want to let someone know I have found the perfect plant based cheese. Made and matured in North London. It's called Honestly Tasty Blue. Delicious. That's a first.

I've not read Mary Daly's Gyn/ecology, but this essay on it is interesting. Not everyone's cuppa but thought I would plonk it here.

Gonners · 27/11/2022 20:52

@winterbourne - and doesn't know what secondary sexual characteristics are.

CitronVert22 · 27/11/2022 20:56

Hello all! I would lurk and learn in the other place. New name, but hopefully familiar.

I won't be leaving there but I have a lot of thoughts going on. I won't say I liked every thought on the old thread, but on the whole it was engaging in good faith. And I'm thoroughly unimpressed by a small number of people who did not and kept shitting things up and making it all about them. And want to add a +1 to my admiration of pea's posts.

Anytime a community dies like that I think it's really sad. It's not the first time for me.

Anyway, I've a lot of complicated thoughts, but wanted to say Hi.

ExiledElsie · 27/11/2022 20:59

I've spent the afternoon drinking with some fabulous women after sitting in a church not watching a film because some people who haven't seen the film persuaded the minister that it was "widely accepted" as transphobic.

I wouldn't know as I've not seen it.

The protesters then got upset because we stayed and talked.

I think being kicked off the old site is annoying me more after experiencing ridiculous curtailment of rights to associate and watch a film of feminists talking.

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/11/2022 21:09

@bignosebignose I always thought that poster was a bit of a cunt tbh.

Welcome @CitronVert22 ! Good to see you. I too have complicated thoughts but am staying away completely for now as I feel I can't trust myself or others on the Other Place right now.

For me it was a hill to die on, as much about the way dissenting opinions were treated and van bangers were allowed to assemble without censure, as the right to discuss the subject itself. Sometimes one has to make a stand on these things.

Winterborne74 · 27/11/2022 21:12

Hello @CitronVert22 I was a bit slow, but got there in the end. Still scratching my head at the names of a few arrivals though.

Wow @ExiledElsie was that going to be Adult Human Female. They are such authoritarians. Hope you get another chance to see it.

Is it going to be available online? Would like to see it myself.

murasaki · 27/11/2022 21:12

@CitronVert22 , hello, I think we may have met last week?

Kucinghitam · 27/11/2022 21:12

@ExiledElsie Was that the AHF film? Have you seen there’s a thread about it? It is typically infuriating that women get bulldozed, and the perpetrators claim that they’re the distressed ones.

TinselAngel · 27/11/2022 21:17

Hello newbies. Nice to meet you.

You might find our website interesting if you've not seen it already:

I'm vegan, and edible vegetarian/vegan cheese is the holy grail for me. I've been told for years this one and that one is really good but none have ever satisfied that cheese jones I have. Will try this, thanks for the recommendation.

Winterborne74 · 27/11/2022 21:24

Feel exactly the same. Can accept that it is a contentious subject with strongly and sincerely held views on all sides. Can accept there are trans inclusive feminists on that site who disagree strongly with our stance. Cannot accept that the site owner encouraged the community to drive dissenters from the board, and the pitchforks when we left, largely from male posters and with a few honourable exceptions most people were content for it to happen. It’s putrid.

Merrylus · 27/11/2022 21:26

Hello fenderstrat. Have we met before?😉

cofeetablebook · 27/11/2022 21:28

This happened on a site I am on. GC feminists were refusing to discuss things but instead were always looking for someone to gang up on.

The owner had enough of it, and she banned some of them. The rest left in a huff. This was a good thing because they found Mumsnet and the rest of us were happy to be rid of them.
