As a newbie can somebody explain to me why I can post here when I'm on my desktop but not when I'm on the app, despite being logged in on the app?

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 27/11/2022 19:25

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 18:51

I've only met them in zoos, which are generally reluctant to let you sniff the exhibits, but according to books they do.

It would be a terrible derail to demand to know whether salted or sweet, so I will have to go and do my own research.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 19:26

Posting on the app isn't obvious - there's no box. You have to click the plus sign, then choose the post option, then you get a box.

I'd ask on 'site stuff'.

Someone will ask you technical questions and sort you out.

Kucinghitam · 27/11/2022 19:29

I never use the app, I don't really like it as it seems really fiddly and flaky.

I just use the mobile site. Which I find works perfectly well.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 19:30

Correction, plus sign then 'reply'.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 27/11/2022 19:32

Welcome new people 🍹🍹 I thought it suddenly seemed crowded!

I hope you stay and join in 😊

(and that none of you have weird taste in weetabix!)

Ditto, @TricyrtisJTT.

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn I find the mobile Safari site a million times better and more functional than the app, which I abandoned many years ago. Although I’ve never experienced your weird issue with line breaks.

#Bekind is silencing hogwash. Where is the kindness to the traumatised rape victim told that she can’t object to the presence of a clearly male-bodied person in her therapy session? Where is the kindness to the teenage athlete who has been training since a child and suddenly isn’t getting a place in the team because someone with the body of a teenage boy has turned up to her sports club? Where is the kindness to a female prisoner locked up with someone who has committed sex crimes against women and who the MoJ itself admits poses a risk to her?

Kindness is so rarely offered to women who speak out.

I saw another poster on here rebuff a “be kind” post from a visitor with “you first!” Summed the problem up in a nutshell for me. Why are women always expected to yield?

Thanks Bint - much appreciated.

@murasaki I dunno, it still seems dominated by angry middle aged men who, despite getting want they wanted, still seem to be angry.

crabbyoldbat · 27/11/2022 19:39

Maybe, in the due course of time we could open a thread in chat, or similar, called something like "JTT friends chat 1", which we can keep up with each on, and then integrate seamlessly 😀with specific topics, like FWR.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 19:39

angry middle aged men who, despite getting want they wanted, still seem to be angry.

Now what does that remind me of...?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 19:41

Good idea, Crabby.

BTW, the line break thing seems to be a Samsung problem. Someone else has already asked about it in Site Stuff.

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/11/2022 19:42

Hmm, I'm posting on a Samsung phone and don't get that issue.

I am using the mobile site though, not the app.

Plasticfreefantastic · 27/11/2022 19:43

Thinking of tech advice makes me
suggest searching out (you’ll need to use advanced search for any real searches) the thread in Classics where a possibly well-meaning young man came on to offer women any help they might need with computeryness technical tricky stuff.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 19:44

I'm also using the mobile site. App doesn't do the line break thing, but is deeply un-user-friendly in other ways. And very purple.

nilsmousehammer · 27/11/2022 19:46

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/11/2022 19:36

@murasaki I dunno, it still seems dominated by angry middle aged men who, despite getting want they wanted, still seem to be angry.

Which strongly suggests that the need is being met by performing a lot of angry behaviour. It's the end in itself.

Waitwhat23 · 27/11/2022 19:46

Welcome to all the lifeboaters! I am completely unaware of The Other Place but it sounds like you've had a crap time so I hope you find a new home here.

In terms of the usability of this site - I switched over to the app because the desktop site was crashing too often for me but I'm still not quite familiar with the app capabilities (I miss the pages - it was so much easier to say 'my post on page...!).

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 19:47

How very thoughtful, Plastic, I'm sure his kind offer was well received.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 27/11/2022 19:47

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/11/2022 19:36

@murasaki I dunno, it still seems dominated by angry middle aged men who, despite getting want they wanted, still seem to be angry.

What nobody seems to have noticed (include Site Owner himself) is that it's clear from his "main" post that his ire was directed not at us sinners as such but at the (unspecified) people who had failed to drive us out. So the first thing is that we clearly exacerbated that horribly by quietly decamping instead of waiting to be burned.

But the second thing is that he (they) was actually saying "stop me looking at what they say! If I look at what they say it makes me, it makes me, I can't explain what it makes me think, so it makes me angry!"

People didn't burn witches when they were feeling happy and fat after a good harvest. They burned them when their (sacred) cows died.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 19:51

New Scientist reported a very interesting bit of research some years back about radicalisation. It found that in most cases people went from: have belief -> belief becomes extreme as person is radicalsied -> develops into anger/violence. But in a subset (at that time specifically far right men) the anger came first, and they found a cause to attach it to.

Indeed. Yes again, apologies to Mumsnet regulars because we are still stumbling around finding each other, and still a bit in a state of shock.

Pixiedust1234 · 27/11/2022 19:57

Apparently my Google is broken so I have absolutely no idea where you have all come from but hello and welcome one and all. I'm sorry that your previous home is no longer welcoming you.

I don't care if you are male or female, childless, childfree or have millions of the little beggars, all I ask is that you don't try to gaslight me by saying women have a certain appendage between their legs.

Oh...and I like kittens and cake and property porn. I look forward to reading about a certain thread thats been mentioned in here 😉

Plasticfreefantastic · 27/11/2022 20:07

@Pixiedust1234 your post may cause a bit of confusion as there is a well-established poster in the old place with your username!
