Well, here we are...

OP posts:
Mirrorsforyou · 27/11/2022 17:58

Hello from a long-time lurker at the previous place.

I stopped reading the thread a while ago so I could concentrate on working out what I actually think about the issues, and then never really got back into it because, like most threads, it continued to move and I felt like I had missed too much. Catching up this weekend, as a kind of final farewell to the site, has been horrifyingly eye-opening.

From my experience, the people saying #bekind are never the ones having to #bekind themselves. It’s very easy to tell someone else to make space when you don’t have to inconvenience yourself.

picklemewalnuts · 27/11/2022 17:58

The best way to avoid arguing about the presence of 'the mens' is just to ignore. Move along. People have welcomed them, people have expressed irritation about it. So there's not much productive left to say. They are more than capable of A- behaving appropriately, and B- coping with the reaction when they don't. We're all grown ups.

It would be a shame if we let that divert everyone from settling in.

It's a big lifeboat with enough corners for everyone. No one will be chucked overboard to make room for anyone else.
I take up two seats, myself. Cake Brewanyone?

Kucinghitam · 27/11/2022 18:02

Cake Brew anyone?

Hell, yeah! Also, Wine!

(Amazing to see so many new people appearing! Hello and welcome!)

yumyum33 · 27/11/2022 18:02

Another late arrival from the other board here. I just wanted to say how good to see so many familiar names here but I intend to fully immerse myself in mumsnet

I've always been more of a lurker than a poster but I'm hoping that will change now I'm in a new place. Hello to all you.

I (used to) follow the thread from the other place on and off, and others from time time as a legacy from GUT. Christ what happened? It all looked respectful and civil whenever I dipped in. Did it get infiltrated by cunty types?

Well.

A bit, yes. Not infiltrated as such, but there were plenty of existing poters willing to wield a poking stick.

However.

The main problem is the site owner (and others, but it's 1 man 1 vote: he's the man, he has the vote) not being able to see past his own historic experience of homophobia, and Stonewall as the Good Guys. So if Stonewall says any discussion of biology and sex based rights is an attack on the whole force-teamed rainbow, the that is hownit is. No debate. Dissenters are evil bigots.

He tried sticking us in a corner, but was still unable to ignore the shit stain (his words) on his lovely kind site.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 18:08

I'm really sorry about all the spaces.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 18:10

Think I may hace to read on the Web browser and use the app for replies.

TricyrtisJTT · 27/11/2022 18:12

Hello, yumyum!

I've always been more of a lurker than a poster but I'm hoping that will change now I'm in a new place.

Same here. At the other place I was too shy and tongue-tied to say much, but it feels easier here.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/11/2022 18:18

I have terrible trouble when posting extracts from newspapers- the new MN removes my paragraph breaks and takes them hostage. Seems my paragraph breaks are finally being released, after I'd given up all hope, but in Binturong's posts.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 18:08

I'm really sorry about all the spaces.

That was hilarious. I thought I was reading a careful and prolonged 'pause for effect'!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 18:08

I'm really sorry about all the spaces.

It's fine as long as they are gender-neutral spaces Grin

😂 This post and binturong’s post are a perfect comedy duo! Grin

Winterborne74 · 27/11/2022 18:32

Hello @Saskihahaha @Merrylus and @yumyum33

Nice to see you, although shame about the circs.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 27/11/2022 18:35

Can I ask, binturong, do they actually smell of popcorn?

SinnerBoy · 27/11/2022 18:44

Sequenca

"It's not very good form to come into this existing feminist space and start attacking women who are a put out by a bunch of men suddenly arriving out of nowhere."

I understand that completely, but I haven't come to take over, hector, or lecture. I've come because I'm interested in this particular subject and the impact it's likely to have on my daughter.

In the previous place, I found out lots of things, which I hadn't really known about, such as very young schoolgirls being sexually harassed.

For me, these sorts of awful things have a vicarious impact, via my daughter.

I don't like bigots and bullies and I want to get some insights into how I can help prepare her for life, how to cope with bad things and how to be resilient.

That's all.

I've been looking at MN for a few years, for parenting tips, or following AIBU threads, which I often find entertaining.

I'm not trying to intrude, I've simply followed some internet comrades, who've been hounded out of a space, which I found in turns interesting, shocking and admirable.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 27/11/2022 18:44

Hello yumyum, long time no see. I am who you would probably guess.

OneSugar1 · 27/11/2022 18:45

Yes Binturong’s post had a distinct cliffhanger feel to it!

murasaki · 27/11/2022 18:47

The happy posts about how it's all a beautiful kind space now are sticking in the craw somewhat. I should stop looking.

So kind. Truly so.

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/11/2022 18:49

Yay more familiar faces. I am tentatively branching out but the lack of an edit button is making it hard for me to keep up with fast moving threads.

Also to indulge a really cliquey moment, I really want to tell Verde about my amazing new EBAC dehumidifier. But I can't. 😥 So I am telling you lot instead.

Note to not Other Place people we were obsessed with dehumidifiers for a bit, with one poster being crowned King of Dehumidifiers/ Shill for Big Dehumidifier. This weekend I finally got around to buying one of the recommended ones.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 18:51

I've only met them in zoos, which are generally reluctant to let you sniff the exhibits, but according to books they do.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 18:52

Yay! Which size Ebac?

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 27/11/2022 18:54

The Archers thread turned out to be populated by pals I haven't interacted with in years, so that's very good indeed - I had no idea they'd come here.

Kucinghitam · 27/11/2022 18:57

I am tentatively branching out but the lack of an edit button is making it hard for me to keep up with fast moving threads.

I just go for it and post. And then find I've been left behind by the discussion or have zillions of Autocarrots, but so be it. Sometimes I remember to check my spelling or formatting with the Preview button before I hit Post. But not always.

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/11/2022 18:57

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn umm I am not sure. One of the smaller models I think

picklemewalnuts · 27/11/2022 19:00

I just let accuracy drift, and blush about anything very awful later.
