Hoping everyone is okay.

See above. Of course women and men are lobbying the Dems about their gender ideology stance. Same as women here continue to lobby labour, work to influence policy at a local and national level, provide single-sex services, secure abortion rights etc.

But Labour/Dems being crap in many ways doesn't mean that the overall policies of Sunak, Truss, Johnson or Trump need to be voted for instead.

OmiOmy · 17/11/2022 10:54

Thanks Hellobore AGCL makes sense now.

I had a quick look at the Facebook page. They spend an inordinate amount of time decrying KJK and the far right whilst spending little time on "policies, not people", which I think one of them was saying the group were about.

I just admit I didn't get too far beyond that and the anti-surrogacy bit, which also felt a bit off. They can't be anti-surrogacy because it aligns them with homophobes. There's a lack of nuance there, because people are anti-surrogacy for many different reasons and just cos I'm thinking about it from one point of view doesn't mean I'm aligning self with someone with abhorrent homophobic views. Which neatly brings us back to the reasons many people are GC.

But then this boils down to your priorities.
What you are saying here is that if it comes down to a choice of sticking with the democrats with their anti women policies or voting republican you will stick with the democrats.

And because that is what YOU believe you don't want others to understand the full picture.

Got it.

You got it omiomy.

The hatred on that page is quite something. But having read it, I now understand where one poster gets their 'material' from.

The extreme bad faith interpretation of something KJK about women being on their knees was very much a feature of that group.

When I heard KJK say that, I assumed she was talking about women begging to be heard and listened to by males.

Members of that group immediately jumped to the extreme interpretation of her talking about giving head jobs. And put it out there that she was saying 'fellating'.

I am very happy to be corrected if she did in fact talk about other women 'fellating' men, but I did not hear that on the video link posted.

And yet, antelope seems to continue to regurgitate most of the content from that group and its members here on these threads. This group feed their hatred of one woman off to many others who seem willing to listen and repeat it.

And they seriously censure women who do not use the carefully curated language they demand. Some claim to be anti-surrogacy while threatening to remove a woman who is blunter than they like.

I believe that if you cannot describe accurately how women are being exploited and at what stages of the fertility cycle for fear of sounding hateful to a group who does in fact exploit women (some of those women are willing), then who ever is wielding that power is most definitely not 'anti-surrogacy'. They are allowing surrogacy for a small select group of people who they don't want to offend.

That is authoritarianism and dishonest all rolled into one.

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2022 12:17

If it was in fact made up that KJK said women were 'fellating' men, then this bad-faith group is worse than I'd realised. I can't stand lying, and especially not when it's an attempt to drag someone.

To be fair if I’d heard “women were on their knees”, I’d have thought either we’d been dealt too many blows and were struggling it were begging to be heard. It says a lot about the people who automatically jump to blow jobs as a context for that phrase.

TheBiologyStupid · 17/11/2022 12:28

OMG - I had no idea that when Mexican revolutionary leader Emiliano Zapata said "We would rather die on our feet that live on our knees" that he was talking about fellatio. You live and learn...!

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 12:30

Thanks Arabella.
Even when there is video evidence that is easy to find, loads of posters assumed that it was a lie that she had said that.

Helleofabore · 17/11/2022 12:30

So, she did say it.

I don't agree with her saying that.

See. That was easy wasn't it. I can agree with her sometimes and disagree with her other times. And still generally think she is doing some for a group of women who wouldn't normally have a voice and is raising awareness.

I am sure it will be added onto that sin page on Brighton Feminists.

I disagree with things that Julie Bindel says either. I am not about to take the opportunity to monster Julie Bindel for her words either. I will also agree that Eventbrite should not have cancelled the sales of an event she was speaking at.

And I do not agree that Nottingham council should have either.

But then I consider that a normal adult reaction to hearing someone, that I agree with many times and disagree with sometimes, saying something I disagree with.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 12:30

I genuinely listened before, twice, and didn't hear it because I had head phones in and it was not clear.

Because, I generally DO check before I make accusations.

In this case, I was wrong and I apologise to the members of that Facebook page.

"It doesn't matter how much you get on your knees and fellate these men, they're still going to steal your rights".

That's just a more specific form of calling a woman a dick panderer; handmaiden, (or more accurately, aunt Lydia).

That however much you pander to TRAs and these men in general, they are still campaigning for you to cede your rights to them and will use you to do if you let them.

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2022 12:41

I'd say it's a comment that is on a similar level as some of the many insults I've seen directed at KJK. Only it wasn't - as far as I know - directed at any one individual.

There is plenty that is said by lots of women I respect that I don't agree with.

It doesn't mean I have to denounce them, insult them, pretend I agree, revere them or despise them.

EndlessTea · 17/11/2022 12:49

Yeah. I don’t really find it offensive. I see it the way Datun said it.

KJK has definitely cleaned up her potty mouth, so at least she didn’t mention “sucking cock”. 😂

Helleofabore · 17/11/2022 12:51

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 12:41

@Helleofabore Thanks for admitting you were wrong.

You know antelope, I don't have a problem admitting I am wrong. I do so on threads where I am wrong.

Maybe the thing is that I spend so much time checking to make sure that what I say is right or that I have remembered correctly, because I lack confidence in my interpretation or my memory. I then I have to analyse things and check, because I know very well that I lack the confidence to present what I say as being true otherwise.

Call it whatever you want. But I am someone who doesn't cope with dishonest posts and deliberate misrepresentations. Although, by now, I guess a few posters would have picked that up by now.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 12:51

And I did not get my posts from that group. There is this little thing called Twitter. Although looking at members I do follow quite a few on Twitter like Ali Ceesay. I agree with a lot of what she says.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 12:52

@Helleofabore I appreciate people who disagree but are honest. So thanks.
I do not like those posters who obviously just lie to support whatever viewpoint they want.

Well. That is where the similarity is then.

And it is very possible that someone like that person you like on twitter compiled a vile sin list on a supposed 'feminist' website that listed sins that when you analysed them where 'sins' that prominent feminists were also saying.

The hypocrisy is incredibly dishonest in my eyes. Call yourself a feminist and list all the ways you (general you) are a feminist but direct hatred at a woman for deeds that other prominent feminists that are in 'your' tribe (again general your) have also said and written about, is the very epitome of not being a 'real' feminist and merely paying lip-service to being a feminist for whatever reason you (general you) choose.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 13:01

Where is this "sin list" you keep all referring to?

Helleofabore · 17/11/2022 13:02

I shall see if I can find it again. They may have deleted it now.
