GLAMOUR and UOMA Beauty's Beauty Game-Changer of the year apparently.

Guess they couldn’t find any actual women deserving of the accolade… wonder how hard they looked?

I don't follow these type of things but having watched a few of her interviews and read some things she's written I'm a big fan of Munroe. She's also gorgeous.

Plastic surgery can do wonders!

BellaAmorosa · 12/11/2022 08:46

"best female impression of a wombat"
😂😂
That tickled me.

Ah, 'Glamour' - I'm indebted to Terry Pratchett's elves for reminding me what the word means.

www.wordnik.com/words/glamour

Transwomen aren't women but for sure some have glamour.

RayonSunrise · 12/11/2022 08:54

It would be nice if Glamour just changed the name of the award to "best jumping-through-hoops performance of femininity," and we could all be honest about what is actually being rewarded.

It would also give young women pause - you can jump through hoops too and men can still out perform you, or you can just learn to be comfortable in your own skin and not buy Glamour magazine.

So it's a stupid award. Point is, it's a stupid award for women, not males who claim to be women. Some women think sport is stupid, others think beauty contests are stupid. Makes no difference. Men/boys are not and cannot become women/girls for any purpose. Every instance of this attack on women's existence as a sex class must be resisted.

The awards do cover a few categories not just media / acting /celebrity types. Last year Bernadine Evaristo, Naomi Osaka and Vivienne Westwood were among the named people so it’s not all about femininity.

Having said that, anything for women should be for women. I don’t care if it’s rear of the year or best porn star, if it’s a female category it should be for adult human females. These men are basically trying to say they can ‘woman’ better than women can and they can do one.

Forgot to add photo 🤦MB doesn't seem to be very tolerant towards gay women (and men) 🤷

Munroe said that 'centering reproductive systems in a Women's March is reductive and exclusionary'. What's to like about that?

Munroe is also one for appropriating the terrible experiences of South American sex workers to push their own agenda. They tweeted that 'as a trans woman of colour my like expectancy is 30'. Which is disingenous bullshit.

But of course it wouldn't be a 'Women's Awards' ceremony if a male wasn't winning at least one award.

I was referring to her speaking about her racial identity - I really empathised with a lot of what she said.

beastlyslumber · 12/11/2022 11:14

Fair bit of misogyny (? not sure what else to call it?) on this thread. The idea that femininity is silly and trivial so it doesn't matter what happens to the women who work in the beauty or fashion industries, if they're pushed out by men. Or that women who care about beauty and fashion (which is many women, especially young women, at least to some extent) shouldn't expect to not be mocked by males pretending to be them.

There's nothing inherently silly or trivial about any aspect of being a woman, including femininity. But even if you are not remotely interested in these areas of life then there is a basic lie being told here, i.e. that a man is a woman. And that's just wrong.

Well said. It's not the first time I've seen this attitude on FWR and it never fails to piss me off.

Genuine question, if a person like Bergdorf is so openly lying about having a “woman” identity, how does anyone take anything Bergdorf says to be true about any other aspects of Bergdorf’s identity?

Personally, once a male claims to be a woman, I assume everything else they speak could also be complete horseshit as well.

It depends on your worldview, I am not of the opinion that people can change sex - it's biological. That is a given but I am also not going to antagonise someone's preferred identity - I gain nothing from calling transwomen men in dresses or whatever. I have no dog in the fight. I do however have huge interest in and quite an extensive background in race-related issues; so when she spoke about (the difficulties, among other things) about being mixed race I completely resonated with it. Some people wouldn't give a shiny shit about her race, or indeed race issues at large, but for me it's massively important.

ResisterRex · 12/11/2022 12:37

The background on race. Bergdorf was dropped by L'Oreal and then "stepped down" from a Labour post because of these comments:

www.politicshome.com/news/article/controversial-race-row-model-munroe-bergdorf-resigns-as-lgbt-advisor-to-labour

claimed that white people’s "entire existence is drenched in racism".

SkinOfTeeth · 12/11/2022 13:08

Gamechanger? Honestly look at their Instagram. Their life is one endless round of dress-up, plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures (I think the relatively recent butt-job was done by the same surgeon as Jessica Alves who also follows MB). Since January they've holidayed in the Maldives, Marseille, Spain, New York - constantly posting pics of them in luxury hotel rooms , on yachts, idyllic beaches. They've walked a handful of shows, modelled Bulgari Diamonds, appeared on magazine covers and attended award ceremonies. And then they post a few trite 'Protect Trans Kids' memes and get interviewed for their ground breaking 'work' and THIS makes them a Gamechanger?!! Oh sorry they also have a high camp show on MTV that they co-present with drag queen Tayce.

What MB does best is self-publicise and try everything they can to mould their face and body to an idealised version of what certain members of society think a gorgeous, fabulous woman should look like. They do that very, very well it has to be said partly down to having an enormous budget and/or loads of companies wanting MB to wear their cosmetics, hairpieces, frocks etc... The 'political' stuff seems to entirely consist of them just existing and being a role model to any other wanna be trans models, and being lauded by the likes of Trish Goddard for posting photos of themselves in enormous frou-frou frocks.

It also feels like they've had a book coming out for the past 5 years but it's yet to materialise. Occasionally they will post a photo of themselves without the make-up and wigs and they look beautiful.

I blame society for making 'being beautiful' an 'achievement'. Especially for women. It seems to be even more of a pinnacle of achievement for trans women.

Oh and I'm sure this thread won't last.

It's amazing how small the pool of transwomen is that so many of them seem to be better at womaning than actual women. They really must be very special.

Well coco… don’t forget they are gorgeous apparently!!!

I mean really. I remember watching their show about their extreme plastic surgery.

It goes without saying that women and girls have been set a challenge to reach to achieve award winning glamour.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 12/11/2022 13:32

Certainly ‘a Beauty Game Changer’ , just maybe not in the way they mean.

That seems to be common when Monroe threads occur.
