GLAMOUR and UOMA Beauty's Beauty Game-Changer of the year apparently.

Guess they couldn’t find any actual women deserving of the accolade… wonder how hard they looked?

Guess whose picture tops the article? (Hint - it isn't one of the women)

donquixotedelamancha · 12/11/2022 07:19

I don't like the general erosion of the word woman but I'm not sure I care too much about crap like this.

Those companies are all about gender, they are all about promoting the performance of a stereotype of womanhood. In that sense MB seems perfect for them.

VladmirsPoutine · 12/11/2022 07:21

I don't follow these type of things but having watched a few of her interviews and read some things she's written I'm a big fan of Munroe. She's also gorgeous.

beastlyslumber · 12/11/2022 07:23

Munroe is not a woman. Therefore should not be getting an award for being a woman. That's all.

TheaBrandt · 12/11/2022 07:25

They’re just trying to sell us stuff. If we as women all show no interest and look away their whole facade crumbles

InterestingUsernameTBC · 12/11/2022 07:26

I once heard Heather Brunskill-Evans speaking about the time Caitlyn Jenner won Glamour Woman of the Year. CJ was in various magazines taking about what being a woman meant to them. And Heather wrote a piece about what being a woman meant to her, spoiler: it was based on being female. She was told she wasn't allowed to write about that. That it invalidated the lived experience of someone like CJ. That's why stuff like this matters. How long before our daughters only see representations of women performed by men in the media?

Still not a woman though

I agree with this. I haven't read a glamour magazine but imagine it to be more about gender than about what it means to be a biological human female. Their use of the word woman is inaccurate and confuses the matter for some people, but they aren't leaders in the debate.

WinterTrees · 12/11/2022 07:31

some of the things she's written like that women on a Women's March shouldn't reference female biology? Or that vulnerable kids should contact her privately on social media? Can't see much to admire there.

Like Shakespeare.

I don't agree that because this is in a magazine that pushes stereotypes, it's not worth worrying about. Like women's awards going to bankers - you can dislike the industry but need to be wary of where this is being pushed so it becomes normal for a male to take female awards and spaces.

Here's some background on this person

That Spectator article is very good.

frazzledali · 12/11/2022 07:59

Wonderful news.

ohfook · 12/11/2022 08:00

I've not seen that spectator article before. It's really good.

This.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2022 08:09

These awards (albeit from a source that has no interest for me) have the effect of raising a woman's profile. They increase her chance of other people paying attention to her and might improve her career prospects. And this is being denied to a woman and given to a LARPer. Pathetic

Floisme · 12/11/2022 08:29

I'm not sure what your approval of the industry concerned has to do with whether or not women's awards should go to women?

BedTaker · 12/11/2022 08:31

VladmirsPoutine · 12/11/2022 07:21

Munroe said that 'centering reproductive systems in a Women's March is reductive and exclusionary'. What's to like about that?

Munroe is also one for appropriating the terrible experiences of South American sex workers to push their own agenda. They tweeted that 'as a trans woman of colour my like expectancy is 30'. Which is disingenous bullshit.

But of course it wouldn't be a 'Women's Awards' ceremony if a male wasn't winning at least one award.

ApocalipstickNow · 12/11/2022 08:33

I’m not really sure what this award is all about-

ApocalipstickNow · 12/11/2022 08:33

posted Too soon

ApocalipstickNow · 12/11/2022 08:34

Ffs!

if it’s about being a game changer in some way why not “person of the year” and open it to all?

BellaAmorosa · 12/11/2022 08:38

dudsville · 12/11/2022 07:28

So it's a stupid award. Point is, it's a stupid award for women, not males who claim to be women. Some women think sport is stupid, others think beauty contests are stupid. Makes no difference. Men/boys are not and cannot become women/girls for any purpose. Every instance of this attack on women's existence as a sex class must be resisted.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/11/2022 08:43

Bergdoff is a man and therefore shouldn’t be winning any awards for women whether it’s best female hairstyle, best female speaker or best female impression of a wombat. Women’s awards are for women not men who demanded women didn’t wear pussy hats to women’s marches because they were excluding

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/11/2022 08:44

And it’s pretty flipping easy to pick out the sexes of the people in this photo
