Not sure I see the issue, but...

minipie · 11/11/2022 14:29

I see your point, but if this speeds up the death of beauty pageants maybe there’s a silver lining.

Quite.

ColeensBoot · 11/11/2022 14:31

Is that Derry in NI? Not sure anyone in northern Ireland looks like that tbh

Have seen a few blokes in London wearing makeup. Ie foundation the wrong shade, appalling blush & eyeshadow. Office workers. If a woman turned up looking like that I reckon she would get a quiet word to fix her makeup

Altoo · 11/11/2022 14:31

Not sure I want to expend energy on fighting for womens rights to win beauty pageants PLUS this sort of thing just brings sunlight to the whole farce!

What I do find shocking though is the other contestants reactions, how much they must be faking or fooling themselves or the external pressure to behave a certain way, but hey, patriarchy in action.

JaneJeffer · 11/11/2022 14:32

Not NI @ColeensBoot Grin

GoodnightGentleBoris · 11/11/2022 14:33

I don’t think pageants are as much about beauty as they are about doing stuff to do with social justice. I’m conflicted about this because it certainly shines a light on how ridiculous the whole thing is, but I also think that beauty pageants should get in the bin anyway

PurpleTinsel · 11/11/2022 14:34

@ColeensBoot Derry in the USA.

ColeensBoot · 11/11/2022 14:35

Well I think it shows up a few things - how ridiculous beauty competitions are. Sexist stereotypes. Ridiculous enforced femininity.
Would your pro-trans male buddy date the winner?

bellinisurge · 11/11/2022 14:35

Beauty pageants are shit but there was scholarship money in this for the winner. And I doubt a plus size woman would have won it. But an overweight transwoman is fiiiiiiine.

ColeensBoot · 11/11/2022 14:36

No way! Ok now it's unfair. Bloody hell

This! Of course pageants are ridiculous but that scholarship money should have gone to a woman.

badbaduncle · 11/11/2022 14:39

It's not just a pagent and a crown - it is also a scholarship

GrrrrAReform · 11/11/2022 14:43

ummmm... I can't get exercised about beauty pageants. But that is ridiculous on so many levels.

GrrrrAReform · 11/11/2022 14:44

If it's about a Scholarship then that's different. Obviously their beauty and their cause put them head and shoulders above everyone else...

ZeldaFighter · 11/11/2022 14:56

Longbarn5 · 11/11/2022 14:27

Not sure I see the issue, but...

Person who was male taking women's opportunities, prizes and places
Lower standards for men compared to women
Young women going along with it

I could go on....

Brian won because Brian is stunning an brave and all the judges were scared of being called transphobic if they picked a healthy looking boring old women

ReunitedThorns · 11/11/2022 15:05

I remember the outrage when Trump used to run an international beauty pageant, and he was against a trans contestant (who admittedly was attractive).

But surely this just shows how ridiculous trans virtue signalling is getting, because he isn't attractive as male or female. He is an overweight man, who has been judged to be more stunning and brave than all of those girls.

Brokendaughter · 11/11/2022 15:07

I absolutely do not believe that someone who looked like that, with that build & that face would have even made it past round 1 of any beauty contest if they were even half way to the mythical 'passing' as a woman.

If you are going to enter a beauty contest, then what you look like is relevant & your looks will be noticed & judged.
That's the point.

I don't judge women on their size in everyday life, but NOBODY has a genuine definition of competition winning female beauty that includes the way that person looks.

If they were a woman, they would be mercilessly mocked for entering.
Just proves it's a bloke working with different rules than actual women.

Yirk · 11/11/2022 15:07

Standards have fallen🤣

Theeyeballsinthesky · 11/11/2022 15:13

The pictures of the young women clapping Brian are female socialisation in action!

FunnyTalks · 11/11/2022 15:19

Transwomen can have all of the objectification be it modelling for fashion brands that don't like women with curves, porn, or beauty pageants. If the only models I saw being made to look imbecilic in order to sell perfume were transwomen, I'd consider it a win.

I don't like the objectification but I don't believe it harms transwomen in quite the same way it harms women. They are not burdened by female socialisation, they can naturally maintain a lower body fat, they aren't facing structural oppression so are likely to have more of the time and money required for maintaining extreme beauty standards.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 11/11/2022 15:23

I don’t see this person maintaining extreme beauty standards. Not on Planet Earth, anyway

ReunitedThorns · 11/11/2022 15:45

I am amazed at the hypocrisy shown, any other woman's event won by a man and there would be outrage, but because it's a beauty pageant the outrage is much less.

Not really a consistent view on being opposed to men competing in women's events.
