The people of Derry in NI would not have stood for that shit for a minute.

I don't know. James was a Derry girl.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 11/11/2022 21:08

I don’t think this could happen anywhere in Ireland or the UK. People would take the piss too much. A male winning, conceivably yes. This male winning?

ZeldaFighter · 11/11/2022 21:17

KatMcBundleFace · 11/11/2022 18:35

Has Brian eaten one of the female competitors maybe?

😂😂😂

Would explain a few things! Where the actual winner is and why everyone went along with it.

I wonder if this is related at all?

I'm now wondering if opticians are a shortage occupation over there.

This.

Agreed.

As an older woman I could laugh.

As the mother of daughters I worry for their future in all spheres.. of life now.
Women have fought for their rights tobe seen as equal only to see them eroded by what is obvious subterfuge in so many areas.

Ne'er has the saying 'beauty is in the eye of the judge beholder' been so true...I wonder if he's found his glasses yet.

Should've gone to .........
😆

We all have opinions on these things I guess

Nope, I dont have an opinion on biology, biology isn't a matter of opinion it's a matter of provable, proven, objective fact. Women are women, and men are men. They should dress how they like, enjoy whatever activities they enjoy, it makes no difference. Having an opinion on biology is like having an opinion on the sun, you don't need to, it just exists.

Fancylike · 12/11/2022 04:53

Men don’t even have to try now. Why go to the effort of using a woman’s name and pronouns, changing your name from something decidedly male, or even bothering with the grooming standards actual women are held to.

He can just pull on a hideous Goodwill dress and go collect a novelty sized cheque for saying he’s trans - with no other details or qualifiers needed. Brian is laughing all the way to the bank.

BigglyBee · 12/11/2022 14:36

I sometimes wonder if there is a group of men somewhere laughing about this sort of thing. Saying to each other "You'll never guess what I made them do THIS time!" and egging each other on to force us to accept more and more ludicrous acts of bullying.

I'm not supporting stereotyped standards of female beauty, nor do I accept that beauty is an important quality, or something I have ever striven for. But there is something really sinister in a man who looks like that being able to barge his way into a contest and everyone being too scared to say anything, or to do anything other than make him the winner. And every time this works for them, it will be used as justification for the next time.

If someone has female genitalia it doesnt necessarily mean they identify as female in gender and vice versa. They may identify as Male or other choices but this is all very complex so i wont start on that here. We all have opinions on these things I guess

You won't go into that on here because it's very complex?

Are you trying to imply that ladybrains are not up to thinking about anything more than babies, sequins and the colour pink?

Fattoushi · 13/11/2022 00:18

LaughingPriest · 11/11/2022 17:15

I can't get that mad that something that by definition is all about appearances is subjective and seemingly arbitrary.

It's depressing that this is how a scholarship is given out but I guess if you sign up you accept losing to someone based on what they look like and nothing that actually matters.

But its not at all arbitrary, is it? Brian didn't win because he was the prettiest, most talented, best "woman" in the contest. Brian won because Brian is speshul and brave and amazing.
If Brian was an actual woman and looked like that, Brian would have been laughed out at the first round.

You won't start on it as you have nothing sensible to say, and you know it.

We don't get opinions on facts. It's not at all complex. Brian is a man, a man who took a scholorship meant for a woman. A man who won a beuaty pagaent literally because he is a man.

SammyScrounge · 13/11/2022 01:03

""sometimes wonder if there is a group of men somewhere laughing about this sort of thing. Saying to each other "You'll never guess what I made them do THIS time!" and egging each other on to force us to accept more and more ludicrous acts of bullying."

My thoughts exactly. I see them as like Loki, the Norse trickster God. His pranks are malicious and cause chaos by turning the world upside down until it makes no sense.
So the fat ugly man wins the woman's beauty contest. Businesses are instructed to issue multiple identity cards in case trans people want to change identity frequently.
You get the picture

Abitofalark · 14/11/2022 16:55

Good article by Jo Bartosch in Spiked. I laughed when I saw the photograph - the incongruity of it - but this isn't at all funny.

"An overweight bloke just won a Miss America beauty pageant

The first trans winner of ‘Miss Greater Derry’ has put the misogyny of transgenderism on full display."

Extract:
"The idea of women and girls parading around while sweaty-palmed judges score them is certainly creepy and anachronistic. Nonetheless, the women entered the Miss Greater Derry pageant in good faith and deserved a fair chance. They were denied a prize that rightfully belonged to one of them. Brían sashayed off not only with the tiara, but also with a university scholarship and sponsorship opportunities. The other contestants had no choice but to clap along at the mockery made of their efforts. The spectacle served as a powerful reminder that, in today’s America, failing to show due deference to the trans overlords (or trans overladies?) is potentially career-ending.

This pattern is being replicated across public life. From sports to politics to science, wherever schemes are established to increase female participation, entitled men in stilettos are marching in to mark them as their territory. And if proof were ever needed that transwomen are men, it can be witnessed in the fawning, gushing behaviour of the wider world towards them. Overweight women are not entered into beauty pageants at all, let alone crowned."

But there is hope: in the US, a women's liberation organisation is taking legal action.

The irony being that girls who seek to escape the punishing beauty standards, semi starvation and objectification of this type of femininity risk being steered instead towards trans /non binary identities, requiring debilitating hormones and extreme surgery.

Men however, can let it all hang out however they identify and the world continues to be theirs.

Indeed. And my post upthread mildly poking fun at this overweight man has been deleted.
