Person who was male taking women's opportunities, prizes and places
Lower standards for men compared to women
Young women going along with it

I could go on....

Exactly. Plus distorting the meaning of the word "woman", which for me is the fundamental problem.

TheMarzipanDildo · 11/11/2022 17:11

Classic bit of men are better than women at everything. Including being pretty ladies!

Obviously beauty pageants are a bit grim, but I think a scholarship was on the line here?

That it's a beauty pageant is irrelevant. It's another man taking a woman's place. A big part of the problem is this idea that "well if it's something I don't approve of then no worries". Don't people who say this understand that it doesn't stop there at the thing you're fine with being removed from women? It keeps going and going till it gets to all the things you do think should be kept for women - rape & DV shelters, all women medical wards, your daughters sports teams, medals in women's sports events, & women's prisons for example. So shortsighted!

This.

LaughingPriest · 11/11/2022 17:15

I can't get that mad that something that by definition is all about appearances is subjective and seemingly arbitrary.

It's depressing that this is how a scholarship is given out but I guess if you sign up you accept losing to someone based on what they look like and nothing that actually matters.

Exactly this.

that’s why I don’t support TW in any kind of female event, regardless of whether it’s something I like or not, whether they take hormones, had surgery, have a GRC etc because WOMEN ALWAYS LOSE.

I feel sorry for the females in that contest. I doubt they are happy at all but are probably scared to speak up in case they are labelled transphobic. That’s why as a fat ugly middle aged woman who gives zero fucks I feel it my own duty to speak out against this shit.

Villagetoraiseachild · 11/11/2022 17:41

Perhaps Bryan had the most bootylicious personality? Tears rolling down face.....

LaughingPriest · 11/11/2022 17:46

I don't think this can be called a female event though? I had a brief look at the rules and there are age limits but it didn't say you need to be female. I might have missed it though.

nilsmousehammer · 11/11/2022 17:47

Why bother holding events for females who try as hard as they can to battle for the highest standard - when a male can just stroll in and win for no other reason than being special because of being male?

Would an overweight entrant have even made it through the heats to this point never mind won?

Of course not.

Hence it's obvious that no one at all thinks this person is a woman and the male is trading on special indulgence being handed over for their maleness. While said male wrecks the whole situation for all the females in order to achieve having their ego stroked.

Every time someone says 'oh well that instance of fucking over females doesn't personally interest me so I won't care' you help the fucking over.

Brian won because Brian is stunning an brave and all the judges were scared of being called transphobic if they picked a healthy looking boring old women

This in spades (if we can still call a spade a spade)

Isn't it called Miss Derry? That's an indication.

eurochick · 11/11/2022 18:07

Isn't Derry where all the weird shit starts in Stephen King books? Hmmm.

Ooh I didn’t look at the rules.

Tell that to young women & girls with no family wealth and limited opportunities to access further education, whose only asset is their looks in this appearance obsessed society. Honestly the sanctimony of some these responses is nauseating.

KatMcBundleFace · 11/11/2022 18:35

Has Brian eaten one of the female competitors maybe?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 11/11/2022 18:38

Longbarn5 · 11/11/2022 14:27

Not sure I see the issue, but...

You don't see an issue with a male getting a scholarship that is meant for a female?

TinselAngel · 11/11/2022 18:40

What I don't understand is why all the young women are smiling, but the winner has a face like a slapped arse.

Guiltycat · 11/11/2022 18:43

I don't approve of beauty pageants, but I still feel angry on behalf of the woman who has now missed out on a scholarship. That may have been the only way they could afford an education.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...but not one person, or even a blind badger, would pick 'Brian' as the most beautiful person in that photo.

I'd say maybe it's good that they will be focusing on 'internal' beauty now, but I'm also willing to bet that it is only the men who won't have to be the prettiest, the actual women will still be held to the same strict cookie cutter standards.

LaughingPriest · 11/11/2022 18:43

I said it's depressing that scholarships are handed out like this. The system needs changing. And even in an appearance-obsessed society, looks are only an asset if you're fairly rewarded for your genetic luck.

It's absolutely appalling that people don't have opportunities, but calling "what gets you a reward in an inconsistent and subjective competition" an asset is to go along with it.

I remember the outrage when Trump used to run an international beauty pageant, and he was against a trans contestant (who admittedly was attractive).

But surely this just shows how ridiculous trans virtue signalling is getting, because he isn't attractive as male or female. He is an overweight man, who has been judged to be more stunning and brave than all of those girls.

perfectly said

hamstersarse · 11/11/2022 18:45

When I saw the picture I had a strange urge to turn into some geezer type down the building site and start shouting…..munter, what a minger, I’d need 10 pints for that one….

it’s only what women have to put up with and seeing as he’s Fully A Woman, you can have geezer from the building site too 🤷‍♀️

ReunitedThorns · 11/11/2022 18:50

Of course there's a lot of hypocrisy with this.

Imagine seeing this person in the loos after winning the event? He could legitimately say "well I am a woman because you let me win the beauty pageant", you can't then say "well I don't care about beauty pageants, but I care about this now". I can imagine the headlines "Outrage over transgender beauty pageant winner using women's toilets".

Or imagine those girls who missed out, you can't say to them "well if he was swimming against you I would have a massive problem with it, but because it's a beauty pageant I don't care".

This person can't even be considered attractive, so he hasn't won it on the basis of looks, only because of the trans card. So it's even worse than competitive sports.

DysonSpheres · 11/11/2022 18:55

ReunitedThorns · 11/11/2022 15:45

I am amazed at the hypocrisy shown, any other woman's event won by a man and there would be outrage, but because it's a beauty pageant the outrage is much less.

Not really a consistent view on being opposed to men competing in women's events.

This. It only matters when it women doing things feminism agrees with.
