A show on ITV at 8pm tonight that sees male celebrities dressing in drag to be judged by a panel. Hosted by Lorraine Kelly.

More normalising womanface and misogyny on prime time tv for ‘family’ entertainment.

OP posts:
AutumnCrow · 05/11/2022 18:37

I peronally think Lorraine Kelly has issues.

FemaleAndLearning · 05/11/2022 18:40

Lorraine Kelly here heeee. I wonder if she will shout go girl!

NeverOneBiscuit · 05/11/2022 18:42

I’ve been cursing at the TV every time I see the trailer for this. No doubt some back stories here and there, with Lorraine squealing about how brave the men are.

Another step on the ladder towards normalising “woman face”

Diyverymuchanewbie · 05/11/2022 18:42

wouldn’t do King for a Night would they

funny that

JacquelinePot · 05/11/2022 18:42

Meanwhile elsewhere on mn a thread has been running all day about a party with a mexican theme where guests have been asked to wear sombreros and droppy moustaches. Poster after poster agreed with the op that it's bad to hold such a party.

The main arguments seem to be predicated on the current/historic oppression of Mexican people by white people and how dressing as the oppressed class when you aren't a member is inappropriate at best and racist at worst. It makes my head spin that women are fair game.

TheirEminence · 05/11/2022 18:42

It's ever so boring but I suspect it also pisses off actual transwomen. How dare you don my special identity for one night only??

NeverOneBiscuit · 05/11/2022 18:46

It’s just endless. Boy George has apparently said if he wins I’m a Celebrity …. he wants to be crowned Queen, not King, of the jungle. No, hands off, you’re a man, so King it is. Appropriation aka stealing. Sick of it.

Yes - hard to work out the message. Are we supposed to think they are oppressed? Or hilarious?

Had an argument with teen daughter who could not understand what was the deal . They do it for entertainment. When I said that’s what they used to do with blackface, she accused me of whatabouttery and said it’s not remotely similar. As it would be a white person disguising as another race, but everyone can do drag! I cannot get through to her yet! But she is young and will learn.

Also Boy George:

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7832565.stm

"Boy George has been jailed for 15 months for falsely imprisoning a male escort in his flat in east London.

The singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, denied the charge and claimed the victim, Norwegian Audun Carlsen, 29, had stolen photos from his laptop.
O'Dowd, 47, admitted handcuffing him to a wall in April 2007 but said he did so in order to trace the missing property.
Judge David Radford told the former Culture Club singer he was guilty of "gratuitous violence"."

Diyverymuchanewbie · 05/11/2022 19:02

I am constantly amazed that boy George’s career survivors thst to be honest

NeverOneBiscuit · 05/11/2022 19:04

ResisterRex funnily enough I was telling my teenager about this earlier this week, after she’d said how lovely he was. I said he was a complicated character, and told her about the handcuffing episode. She was really shocked.

Amazing what a comedy hat and a seat on The Voice can do for a man!

ResisterRex · 05/11/2022 19:33

I'll always have fond memories of Culture Club but the radiator cuffing can't be erased..!

KittenKong · 05/11/2022 19:41

Bloody Kelly women. She is such a sell out.

I think the poll had the majority disagreeing with the OP, last time I looked. The comments were pretty divided too.

Onthecuspofabreakthrough · 05/11/2022 20:20

I thought men dressing in drag for the night would be viewed as massively offensive (to trans women). I'm sure there was a fuss about men dressing up in womens clothes for stag nights.

glamourousindierockandroll · 05/11/2022 20:23

Didn't Boy George also say this week that he wanted to be the first gay man to win I'm A Celeb, forgetting all about Christopher Biggins?

ResisterRex · 05/11/2022 20:25

Like when Stormzy forgot about Skunk Anansie and Glasto?

NeverOneBiscuit · 05/11/2022 20:41

Watching so I can have an informed opinion but don’t think I can stay the course.

eyebright22 · 05/11/2022 20:43

Watching as well. I like Courtney Act and appreciate that he hasn't got false boobs tonight (not sure if he does usually during his act), as I find that one of the most offensive things.

The whole concept is so offensive. Watch the men stagger round on heels just like silly women! Look at them with boobs just like silly women! Look at them be bitches just like silly women!

NeverOneBiscuit · 05/11/2022 20:44

Here we go …. apparently drag can help those from the LGBT.. community who were bullied at school.

NeverOneBiscuit · 05/11/2022 20:45

It’s appalling. I’ve seen better school productions.

NeverOneBiscuit · 05/11/2022 20:49

eyebright I actually can’t believe what I’m watching. This is prime time tv. Take out the stunning and brave and it would never get air time.

eyebright22 · 05/11/2022 20:49

This will be one of the programs in years to come that will feature in those shows saying 'wtf were they thinking' like those shows that feature racism in the 70s or the mini-pops.

eyebright22 · 05/11/2022 20:51

I'll watch one more act but I think I've seen enough to confirm it's just as bad as I thought it would be - if not a bit more, as it has no redeeming features at all, it's grotesque.
