A show on ITV at 8pm tonight that sees male celebrities dressing in drag to be judged by a panel. Hosted by Lorraine Kelly.

More normalising womanface and misogyny on prime time tv for ‘family’ entertainment.

Quite - why can't they dress up as spectacular animals, or aliens? Why always a diva/abrasive woman?

Drag is a really broad church. Some of it is misogynistic tripe and some of it is funny and informative.

Some Queens wear fake boobs and padding whilst others dress as spectacular animals (Trinity K Bonet) or aliens (Cheddar Gorgeous). Others, like Gottmik, push the boundaries of gender norms (a trans man Drag Queen) and Danny Beard, Crystal, Conchita Wurst et al all have facial/body hair. Huge numbers of drag queens use their acts to discuss and promote really serious issues affecting gay communities.

I didn't watch this show and it may fall into the misogynistic tripe category of drag. But please don't put the whole genre into the one box.

LisaPandervump · 06/11/2022 08:20

Exactly. But the men get hero worshipped for ‘being themselves’. You couldn’t make this shit up.

I'd like to see some of those. I enjoy well done make-up and creativity. Last night (of the 3 acts I saw) was very much of the misogynistic variety.

LisaPandervump · 06/11/2022 08:46

Let’s face it. This was 100% about trans indoctrination - and that’s why Twitter is going nuts celebrating it and it is heresy to dare to critique it. All the men who took part - likely for the money and exposure - now being lauded as LGBT ‘allies’ - is hilarious, this is simply part of the agenda to force trans ideology down out throats and normalise it. The men who perform drag are even unlikely to be trans - but it’s just another way in. We can debate the art and creativity if it - but let’s not pretend that putting this on at 8pm prime time and people waiting in the wings for anyone who dares to criticise it with immediate cries of BIGOT - isn’t part of the wider rainbow agenda.

ANY parody of any other group would be cancelled. You either support it or you don’t.

I peronally think Lorraine Kelly has issues.

She's an utter bellend

I'm so glad that we don't watch live TV and pay to produce, promote and watch stuff like this.

mrshoho · 06/11/2022 09:22

I briefly flicked on the this program. What utter drivel. The bit I saw was Adam Woodyatt attempting to impersonate and it was cringeworthy awful. The judges and Lorraine false laughing. I don't get drag as entertainment at all. Any I've seen lack any talent and are only there because they are men dressed as stereotypical women.

eyebright22 · 06/11/2022 09:33

Let's see how this show would look parodying any of the other protected characteristics.

Man A comes on tapping a white stick with dark glasses and trades bitchy banter with crowd. Maybe wanders off in wrong direction when leaves stage for added laughs.

Young Man B staggers in with a comedy hunchback and hilarious routine parodying dementia

White person C puts on black make-up, lip syncs to a song,

Person D dresses as a Hasidic Jew and...

You get the idea. NONE of these would be allowed as a prime time show, despite claims of expressing themselves and creativity. There might be individual comedians out there doing routines like this - but there is not a whole show celebrating them. If they are out there, they are acknowledged as having some cruelty involved.

MissPoldark. Thanks for the OFCOM link, have emailed my complaint.

NeverOneBiscuit · 06/11/2022 10:18

LisaPandervump. Totally agree with your last post about the forcing of trans ideology. And as you say, anyone speaking out against the programme will be viewed as a heretic. Guess I’d better tie myself to the stake now then !

KittenKong · 06/11/2022 10:20

Do men really harbour desires to dress up like ‘women’ and be horrible?

Nope - I do a class (it’s all women - this time) and a range of age/class/nationality/religion.star signs. We ALL hate this nonsense, and it’s quite therapeutic to be around people who don’t play at outrage.

VioletLemon · 06/11/2022 10:25

It's a travesrt to WOMEN to have these offensive parodies faffing all over the media. Sick of it. I'd embrace if they lost the false breasts and claiming 'she' status etc... Tough shit for those trans identifying males.

VioletLemon · 06/11/2022 10:29

Mini pops!!! OMFG Yes....

VioletLemon · 06/11/2022 10:38

The agenda is exactly as you describe in the start of your Comment , for intimidating women to be, 'rammed down our throats'.... It's thinly veiled extreme mysogyny and internalised homophobia. Women are feared, envied and hated by these men but because they are men it's fair game and thanks to idiotic dick panderers like Kelly it will continue to be prostituted in MSM.

NeverOneBiscuit · 06/11/2022 11:22

Kittenkong. I’ve absolutely no idea what your post means. A class? Play at outrage?

If you don't get the humour then you don't get it- it's not for everyone.

But drag is also an art. The amount of work that goes into creating a drag queen is epic. And obviously the characters are larger than life which is the opposite from what they were growing up. You'll find a lot of people who do drag found it tough growing up due to their sexuality and being discriminated against/ bullied/ disowned by family or friends and this gives them a chance to have confidence and be someone completely different- who they want to be. Again- you may not get it and that's fine.

But not everything is about misogyny or done to offend women.

I need more from you you than its just art. If it were just art wouldn't it be more creative to make up new stuff like aliens it fantasy creatures rather than an extreme pornified versions of a woman?

LisaPandervump · 06/11/2022 13:33

Regarding the ‘art’ argument - what is the meaning or symbolism of this particular piece of ‘art’ then if it’s nothing to do with women? Genuinely want to know

Just to interject here, I noticed that on emails, twitter accounts etc..all the cis people stating pronouns are female. I havent seen any CIS males feeling the need to state him/his. Why is this? Just an observation.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/11/2022 15:15

There are plenty of bog standard men who state he/him pronouns. I don't recognise "cis" as a valid term.

WednesdaysChild11 · 06/11/2022 15:29

Must just be coincidence then, I do think cis-females are more sympathetic to trans/drag issues..
