And every time they are pretty explicit that it is witnesses they are seeking.

This time, they said nothing about this person being a witness.

I would say, that for me, it's similar to if a friend told me that she or he had a deep (for them experiential even) belief/relationship with God; and that this was a fundamental to their identity- I would respect their right to hold that personal belief and sense of themself.
