To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

I can assure people it wasn't goady. I just heard about Rosie and wanted to share. If everyone on MN supports Rosie, that's absolutely fine by me. I just felt sorry for Eddie, that's all. Not that it matters, I spose.

Right. Course you did.

PizzaTonight · 27/10/2022 20:49

My eyes see a biological male (also known as ‘a man’) wearing lipstick and a skirt. I’m fucking well tired of being told I’m wrong and I expect Rosie is, too.

I feel sorry for Eddie.
I don't want to have to encounter men (i.e. people with penis) in my changing room.
That's fine, surely?

I really think that you need to read a lot more about this issue. You don’t seem to know what’s at risk here.

That would make you transphobic according to many people.

you can't exclude a woman just becuase she has a PENIS

ColdstreamAnnie · 27/10/2022 20:50

It's fine. I'll leave the thread. My OP was genuine and I didn't realise MN had already decided on the gender issue (I've just been told).
I feel sorry for him, he (or she) seems like a nice person.

Can Eddie play the piano?

It’s wacko.

What do you feel sorry about?? Someone who says they don’t mind what pronouns people use - who is also v successful rich and confident about themselves??

BlackForestCake · 27/10/2022 20:51

But he isn't a woman so why is it sad?

dementedma · 27/10/2022 20:51

Eddie is a very talented and funny comedian,a wonderful charity fundraiser, and an entertaini g TV presence. He is also a cross dresser.

All of this is fine. None of it makes him a woman

mistopheles · 27/10/2022 20:51

Eddie is a biological male. Therefore a man. He feels feminine sometimes and enjoys expressing his feminine side. All fine and dandy.

Go for it Eddie - you do look good in bright colours. And you can look and sound feminine. And you are a brilliant comedian in my eyes. And you will probably be a very good politician. But you are also a man.

Lockheart

I’m not convinced he has actually.
and I think he has implied he would prefer female pronouns but isn’t insisting on it.

I feel a little sorry for a transsexual person who suffers from dysphoria and spends their whole life knowing they can’t be an actual woman and avoiding female spaces but being very uncomfortable in male ones. Since Eddie is quite happy to be a male for his acting opportunities I can only assume he is taking the piss.

I'm not aware he has either. And like you I don't think he's very insistent on pronouns.

This feels like trying to start an argument over fuck all, to be honest.

Please define a woman. The legal definition.

derxa · 27/10/2022 20:51

OP why don't you team up with Lorraine Kelly. You go girl!

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/10/2022 20:51

Does he need your pity @ColdstreamAnnie? He's a well educated, wealthy celebrity. I'm sure he'll be fine.

I feel a bit sorry for Kanye West. He's clearly unwell at the minute.Sad

So you want to call Eddie a woman but not actually treat him as a woman in any meaningful way?

why do you think that’s any ‘nicer’ than simply being honest that you don’t believe he’s a woman?

RightsHoarder · 27/10/2022 20:52

Eddie isn't a woman. He's an eccentric man. Why is that so controversial.

I'm with Rosie.

@TooBigForMyBoots

Kanye W is always unwell when he has something to promote, I’ve noticed..

NellesVilla · 27/10/2022 20:53

Eddy is a man ffs. He has a cock, and is actually a bit of a cock tbh.

Never will I say “She has a penis” (like the Daily Fail did in reference to a man in a dress the other day) other than in this sentence as an example.

Wtf did you hope to achieve with this thread, OP? Again, if you have a penis you are a man or a boy. Hth.

BarneyRumbleton · 27/10/2022 20:53

Eddie can dress how he likes. I’m all for people not conforming to gender stereotypes.
I wore DMs, jeans and a checked shirt today. No make up. I’m definitely still a woman though.

DismantledKing · 27/10/2022 20:53

or when he goes a bit Nazi

Brokendaughter · 27/10/2022 20:53

Eddie Izzard was a brilliant comic, back in the days of 'these aren't womens clothes, these are my clothes, I bought them'.

Nobody cared what he wore, how he styled his hair (although I honestly think it suited him better short), if he wore make up or not.

Being who he actually was back then was one of the best things about him & I had respect for him being that person.

I wouldn't even have cared if he'd got a boob job & still continued being Eddie.

Now, he is appropriating my sex, expecting to walk into the womens toilets, making a mockery of all women everywhere in a way I find deeply offensive & I'd rather go to prison than share a female space with him.

I have no respect for him jumping on the bandwagon to steal the rights of half the worlds population.

so did I - wasn;t in 'boy mode' though so still a biological woman

Please stay. I think you’re at the point a lot of people start out at, wanting to be kind and feeling sorry for someone but obviously not wanting to share a changing room/toilet. Then learning that actually this is exactly what this ideology leads to and being shocked, and then maybe rethinking the idea that people like Rosie Duffield are being mean. In my opinion it’s legitimate concerns and questions that need to be discussed, and we all need to stay in the room to discuss them.

Oh come on, OP. Do better.

I was looking at the criteria for getting a GRC in Scotland today. You have to live as a woman for 3 months. I wonder how you do that (I have read the ways you can do that and I'm... not going there)

So I'm thinking, prancing round in a frock with red lippy is maybe it? But I've been a woman for nearly 60 years and i literally never do that. I watch football, drink beer, eat pizza, burp, fart, live in docs and jeans, i have short hair and don't own red lippy. I used to like high heels until my bunions said "nope" to that. I like wearing fancy hats to weddings (with a trouser suit).

I have listened to EI speaking and the content is the same whichever mode EI is in. So I'm confused about what the actual mode is. Is it about their clothes? because that's not what defins someones sex or gender.

EI is getting a shit ton of publicity - performers love that, politicians love that, it's a win-win here for Eddie. So why feel sorry for EI?
