To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

OP posts:

I don't care what his pronouns are. He's just desperate for attention and has worked out that this is the way to get it. Interesting that he still does male acting roles. Probably gets higher pay for them. I used to be a big fan but I've totally gone off him now.

So the OP feels "incredibly sorry" for Eddie not bring referred to as a woman WHILST USING MALE PRONOUNS FOR HIM.

This!

Eddie can dress how he likes. I’m all for people not conforming to gender stereotypes.
I wore DMs, jeans and a checked shirt today. No make up. I’m definitely still a woman though.

Me too. I tried to be in boy mode but my period didn't get the memo.

VinoDino · 27/10/2022 20:56

Probably goes into man mode when negotiating his pay.

Choconut · 27/10/2022 20:56

If Eddie is a woman then why wouldn't 'she' go in the women's changing rooms - really OP you can't have it both ways.

RightsHoarder · 27/10/2022 20:56

ColdstreamAnnie · 27/10/2022 20:37

He is gender fluid, I believe.
I suppose I felt sorry for him because I can't imagine how difficult it must be to identify as one gender and have lots of people tell you that you're not.

But he isn't. He can identify all he likes but nobody is obliged to go along with anything.

He can dress how he likes, some people will happily call him she, but he is male. Always will be. That reality is hard for some people to accept but that doesn't mean we are all wrong for not wanting our language controlled and not being willing to lie.

yerdaindicatesonbends · 27/10/2022 20:56

I genuinely just wish it was socially acceptable for men to wear dresses, pretty clothes and make up if they so wished, and then perhaps we wouldn’t be where we are now. Clothes and expression have no gender, bodies do.

Is Eddie a woman though ? No

cyclamenqueen · 27/10/2022 20:57

I bet if he went to Afghanistan or Iran he wouldn’t be in ‘girl mode’ what a shame it isn’t that easy for the biological women who live there

Beamur · 27/10/2022 20:57

FurAndFeathers · 27/10/2022 20:51

So you want to call Eddie a woman but not actually treat him as a woman in any meaningful way?

why do you think that’s any ‘nicer’ than simply being honest that you don’t believe he’s a woman?

This is a good point OP.
You're distressed to the point of starting a thread about misgendering, but your support for the trans community is pretty thin if you don't accept male bodied women in your personal space..
Can you explain this further?

amatsip · 27/10/2022 20:58

Feeling sorry for him would depend on what mode im in!

Ooops I don’t have different modes, I’m a woman 100% of the time since birth.

Surely he just needs to look down at his genitals to see his gender?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 27/10/2022 20:38

The thing with Eddie is that Eddies gender changes based on what best befits the situation for them. Boy mode or girl mode.

So Eddie is male for acting roles and business where Eddie gets better roles and higher pay.

Eddie is female for running marathons, going out drinking and politics where Eddie gets to join the female leaderboard, go to female toilets and get considered for things like female shortlists and diversity positions.

Perfectly explained.

Vintagevixen · 27/10/2022 20:58

You are joking surely - Eddie Izzard is a MAN! He deserves not one iota of sympathy.

I'll reserve my sympathy for actual women - too often the victims of DV, sexual assaults, poverty, pay gaps, restriction of reproductive rights etc etc not some idiot who puts on a dress and bit of lip and reckons he's a "girl."

BarneyRumbleton · 27/10/2022 20:59

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 20:55

Me too. I tried to be in boy mode but my period didn't get the memo.

Don’t you just hate it when that happens? Perhaps it will stop if you pop to B&Q.

SerendipityJane · 27/10/2022 20:59

The phrase "symbolic of his struggle against reality" sums it up really.

I'm sure the Izzster will know where it comes from

You just misgender Eddie. If you do it while you are thinking about it and considering Rosie's stance, what chance do the rest of us have.

VaddaABeetch · 27/10/2022 20:59

I love that a 62 year old man gets to be a ‘girl’ .

I’m a 53 year old woman, can I be a girl again? What do I do to achieve this (& get rid of all my middle age aches).

Giggle & toss my hair?

I wouldn’t be up for the pillow fights in my underwear though.

Flaunch · 27/10/2022 20:59

Eddie is a man. He can wear whatever the hell he likes but he will still be a man.

dapsnotplimsolls · 27/10/2022 20:59

Thoughts and prayers with Eddie.

verastan · 27/10/2022 20:59

If only the women in Iran currently being killed had just taken a leaf out of Eddie's book and worn different shoes so that they were no longer female.

If only the girls in Afghanistan being denied an education could have realised all they had to do was to switch to "boy mode".

So fucking insulting to pretend that womanhood is a costume you can identify in and out of when so many women and girls around the world are oppressed based on their biology and can do no such thing.

It makes me sick.

It's fine. I'll leave the thread. My OP was genuine and I didn't realise MN had already decided on the gender issue (I've just been told).
I feel sorry for him, he (or she) seems like a nice person.

MN hadn't decided but I think you'll find most people feel like this. Sick of being nice and being told to feel sorry for the wrong bloody people.

monsteramunch · 27/10/2022 21:00

You feel sorry for Eddie.

But you don't want anyone with a penis to use the women's bathroom.

The below is from a piece written a few weeks ago.

Do you still feel sorry for Eddie even though Eddie doesn't respect your right, or that other women like you, to privacy and dignity in single sex spaces?

"We had taken seats at the front of a room containing around 300 people, many of them women. The bar had a long queue and people seemed in good spirits. As Julie and I became more irritated at the long wait for Izzard’s appearance on stage, I suddenly spotted a man being ushered through a curtain at the side, shielded by two women. I realised as he was whisked into the women’s toilet that it was Eddie Izzard. I told Julie. We both swore proficiently. It was hard to believe that, in full view of the large audience, a man would be assisted to the women’s toilet by two other women. These women were smiling sycophantically and held the door open for him in a supreme act of betrayal to women of the UK, who have a right to single sex services under the Equality Act 2010."

TirisfalPumpkin · 27/10/2022 21:01

There’s no need to leave. Just make a case for what you want to happen, and why. ‘He seems like a nice person’ isn’t an argument. So are the disabled women, the religious women, the sexual assault survivors, being excluded from their own spaces by the Eddies of the world. Is he that much nicer than them?
