So I am told anyway. I can't bring myself to watch it. Has anyone been brave enough?

Can't seem to link to the article. It's in the DM

My comment was deleted - is it because I said he about a man with a penis? Genuinely confused by this.

Sorry MN, it’s almost as offensive as..I don’t know..someone flashing?

Right well I've just watched the whole clip.

I have to say I think the song is satire, I think Gray's taking the piss out of themself and TRA's not women.

I've actually watched them in quite a few interviews etc in the past. I think they're a really interesting and talented individual.

So I'm more inclined to think the lyrics are tongue in cheek. I obviously don't agree with the random getting your penis out. Never appropriate.

But the actual song. I think it's quite funny. I think Gray is being self deprecating by acknowledging that they're male. "Tell me I'm pretty" -male audience members calls him pretty. Gray "GAY".

Yeah no

well I was deleted for using sex based pronouns re Eddie Izard, despite their stating they're not bothered so anythings possible

HootyMcboob76 · 24/10/2022 20:09

How odd. I said something the same upthread and it was left to stand.

What's the criteria?

Hurty feelz?

🤣 What a loonie. Hope he gets sectioned before he goes over the edge.

Apparently they visit schools for education purposes and are about to open a show at the london palladium I think .

JacquelinePot · 24/10/2022 21:28

Careful Hooty, my first ever deletion was for the exact phrase "hurty feelz". I enquired and was told it was "not in the spirit". The rules are, it seems to me, arbitrary and inconsistently applied

Nudity on Post-watershed TV shows isn't anything new.

Anyone remember Eurotrash?

That "right side of history" has some vile people on it doesn't it?

The reason why men are laughing and endorsing the performance is that they’ve never experienced someone unexpectedly flashing their genitals at them.

So many women have experienced these creeps from childhood that they recognise it for what it is. It’s another example of why trans women are not women.
Women know that flashers very often escalate, too.

But nudity on post-watershed shows is still warned for. As seen on twitter, here's the All4 guidance for Friday Night Live, and the guidance for episodes of other shows that have featured nudity. Spot the odd one out.

Have Channel 4 responded to the criticism and furore at all? Has Ben Elton made any mention?

I was expecting Jordan to say at least something interesting or funny to a class full of children at Passmores school... How can you say nothing at all in a 5 minute talk to a class? Seems like a bumbling fool with a very strong streak in narcissism.

Oh my goodness - what did those poor children do to deserve this?! Tedious doesn't even begin to cover it. (And on international women's day!!!) What struck me is just how boring this whole 'trans rights movement ' is. Women's rights, gay rights, civil rights, there are so many fascinating stories of inspirational characters who sacrificed a great deal and focused on making life better for others. The trans movement is so focused on putting the individual and their special feelings at the centre that there really is very little except confected 'I'm so marginalised' feelings or shock tactics, pushing boundaries and aggression to keep them feeling engaged in the 'struggle''. They're desperate for people in what is actually an incredibly liberal society to hate them so they have something to push against. Jordan Grey's whole act is based on being trans ( I do find the 'transaction' videos on YouTube funny and cleverer than the song) but once all the jokes have been made it all gets very boring.

Clymene · 25/10/2022 08:02

Dear god. My local road sweeper would be more interesting to listen to.

International women's day is just insulting.

I did too. Perhaps because there are other people involved so it's not just narcissistic monologuing.

ironic sexism is a new term for me. It does encapsulate this well I think.

And they're not afraid to poke fun at themselves and highlight some truths, for example when they tell their friend off because his dog doesn't respect Jordan's transgender status ( the dog likes men and still likes Jordan!). The song would have been much funnier if Jordan had said they were better than men as well as women and portrayed themselves as a kind of hybrid! I think it's playing to a certain misogynistic audience and the pandering to the TRA line of I'm a woman with a penis and I'm better than women which is why it ultimately falls flat for me.

Thanks for posting this. Terrific article. Articulates all the things I think about the performance and the wider issue, SO much better than I ever could.

It was suitable for 16 and 17 year olds?

Righty-o

Thingybob · 25/10/2022 10:13

Has Sally Hines take on the nudity been posted? Apparently the performance wàs good as it "demystifies and deshames the female penis"

Thanks for the link, fantastic article. So so true about male behaviour, relating current male attitudes and 90's "lad" attitudes. Plus ça change unfortunately.
