Rosie Jones is no longer a lesbian

Anyone watching Friday Night Live? She’s just announced she is “gay”. Is this a deliberate move away from lesbians who are increasingly being targeted for being gc?

Jordan was fantastic. Lovely to see such honesty on display. Not a hint of 'the most vulnerable' type of person in the Western World. Just narcissistic rage and an exhibitionist streak that wanted to show off their beautiful, off-the-shelf breasts and their cock. And God were they on something. It was a staggering display of... I have no words.

Ben Elton was I think being slightly disingenuous with his pronouns. It felt like he was making a point.

I felt the whole show was an awkward example of the merry dance we've being made to dance. A bit of a watershed moment I thought.

Melroses · 22/10/2022 01:49

Yes, agree.

Madwife123 · 22/10/2022 01:49

I’m a lesbian. I use lesbian and gay interchangeably.

AGreatUserName123 · 22/10/2022 01:50

I found it all a bit cringey too. Digging out Julian Clary for goodness sake, and he's still telling all of the same jokes he told 20 years ago or more. His act hasn't moved on one bit.

SpidersAreShitheads · 22/10/2022 02:06

I was under the impression that the terms gay and lesbian could be used interchangeably?

Not that I'm defending Rosie Jones. I think she's a fucking arse. If she's on a show, I don't bother watching it, she's awful. She seems to be on practically everything at the moment and I thought everyone in the world loved her apart from me, so I'm delighted to find there are others who don't like her either.

And yes, she's the furthest thing possible from GC. I remember there was an issue a few months back about a man who identified as non-binary refusing to join the queue for men at a night club. The reason for male and female queues was there was a woman frisking the women, and a man frisking the men. So non-binary entitled man joins the female queue and when the female security officer refuses to carry out a body check on him, he creates the inevitable scene and posts all over social media about the outrage and discrimination. Because he feels that a female security person should be forced to pat down a person with a penis because of his feelings. Rosie Jones tweets her support for non-binary person and bleats on about discrimination. So as far as I am concerned, not only is she not funny, but she can just get in the fucking bin. Twat.

Yep, Ben followed up "my pronouns are..." with "my adjectives are..." so I don't think he was being entirely sincere there.

Agreed, plus he added soemthing aling the lines of..: and welcome to all genders who haven’t been invented yet.

I didn’t see the stripper, thank god, well at least the public will be left in no doubt that these people are not women.

The response on twitter:

twitter.com/search?q=Jordan%20Gray%20until%3A2022-10-23%20since%3A2022-10-20&src=typed_query&f=live

There are gender critical voices but there's considerable acclaim. Lots of "iconic" and "powerful".

Thank you for posting this.

I just went and looked. Gah. Full of "she" "her" "amazing" "brave" "strong".

Fucking hell.

I don't think this is waking people up the way that many of us thought it would. People genuinely don't dare to criticise a single thing someone with a trans identity does.

If a regular bloke got his nob out as the finale of his set and started swinging it around, there would be no shortage of women calling him out. But if it's a trans woman, suddenly it's an act of bravery and is somehow groundbreaking.

As someone said on Twitter, it's just another bloke getting his nob out and insisting he has the right to do that because he wants to. That entitlement pretty much sums up the gender identity crowd.

PorkPieAndAPickledOnion · 22/10/2022 09:15

BitossiBlues · 21/10/2022 23:38

Oh goodness, did he? I missed the whole thing apart from the last 2 acts. If he was being serious, what a saddo. Trying to be down with the kids is just the sort of thing he would have ripped the piss out of 35 years ago.

I think all of you have lost your satire detectors. Of course he was taking the piss.

NashvilleQueen · 22/10/2022 09:24

I didn't see the opening monologue but I saw the end one and it was quite good. He started off suggesting cancel culture isn't real and then turned it around at the end. It's worth a watch.

On the TW act. I've just read an interview in The Times which made me like them as a person but it's clear that the end is the trademark sign off. Lots of references to a surprise ending etc. So I assume C4 knew what was going to happen.

I think for me it emphasised (accepting that it was through the lens of comedy) that being trans is more about fucking and genitals rather than anything to do with actual womanhood. Deeply depressing that it's being seen as brave.

Gloryofthe80s · 22/10/2022 09:26

Rosie Jones. A woman with an opinion?

I can imagine another world where they weren't insisting they were a woman that I'd find them quite funny and personable. I'm just too pissed off with men insisting that they are "more of a woman than a cis woman could ever be" - and in all seriousness, not as a joke to find this shit funny any more.

I quite appreciate the idea of gender non-conformity - I grew up in the 80s where it really jumped to the fore and everyone played with their expression of identity. And that was cool. But now we're at the point of insisting that men really ARE women and that feeling like a woman (whatever that means) is equally as deserving of having female status as BEING an actual woman is.

Someone on Twitter said that if Jordan wants to flash their cock, no one has the right to stop them. And that Jordan has the right to get their cock out whenever they want. That logic doesn't apply to anyone else - being trans apparently gives you the right to flash your genitals and be described as "so brave" when you do it.

FWIW, I don't really care about a man whopping his cock out. It doesn't offend me and I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest. What fucks me off is the sense of entitlement and the fact we're all supposed to worship the act as if it's something hallowed and special.

I think it just reinforces to me that trans identity is so often about the individual - typically a biological man - forcing their views on everyone else with no regard for any other person.

Birdsweepsin · 22/10/2022 09:34

In both cases - the opening pronouns and the piano-knob - my first take is 'Ben Elton has lost the plot'....

...swiftly followed up by 'Ben Elton knows exactly what he is doing; by coming at it from this angle he looks like he is completely on board while subtly dismantling the whole thing from the inside'.

NashvilleQueen · 22/10/2022 09:39

Totally agree with this. In comedy terms a TW who did a song about how hard it is to be an actual woman in the current world (male violence, erosion of safe spaces, mo platforming, misogyny, gender pay gap etc) would be far more engaging than route 1 'I'm a better woman that you and here have a look at my dick.' But that's not what they're interested in.

lifeinthelastlane · 22/10/2022 09:44

Surely a comedian announcing his pronouns is not meant to be taken at face value?

Helleofabore · 22/10/2022 09:46

I agree. It is the lack of symmetry.

Would any other male be uncensured for doing the same? Any female?

What was it about this act that made it worthy of such adulation that the same arguments could turn another male’s act into one of praise?

lollipoprainbow · 22/10/2022 09:55

I found Jordan slightly sinister and menacing tbh left a nasty taste in the mouth.

funnelfanjo · 22/10/2022 09:57

Ben Elton explicitly described his opening monologue while he was in the middle of it - it was satire.

I did enjoy some of the comments on Twitter. Obviously many people too young to remember FNL the first time round. It always was a hit or miss combination of great and not so great stuff and stuff to get you thinking. At first I thought Jordan was being ironic with the lyrics of “I can do anything a woman can” and a liberal sprinkling of misogyny. Not bothered about them getting their knob out, it’s C4 on a Friday night - as far as I’m concerned it’s as expected as a Jerry Sadowitz gig.

Jordan completely made the point about it all being about narcissism and Look At Me, whether it was intentional or not. Hopefully many conversations at home in front of the telly on whether Jordan is, indeed, literally a woman. Wonder if Gogglebox will cover it?

MeridasMum · 22/10/2022 10:04

Rubidium · 21/10/2022 22:58

Jordan Gray, transwoman, gets her tits and knob out on Channel 4 and all is stunning and brave.

Jerry Sadowitz (allegedly) gets his knob out in a small theatre in Edinburgh in front of a paying audience (who are probably well aware of the likelihood of Sadowitz’s knob making an appearance) and he gets the rest of his shows cancelled.

🤔

👏👏👏

SuperCamp · 22/10/2022 10:07

My sister is full on GC and refers to herself as a gay woman rather than lesbian.

I don’t know why. Maybe because there are other aspects that form her central identity rather than sexuality.

Also, I was talking to a psychologist the other day and they were saying that there are young women with lesbian sexuality adopting trans as an identity because amongst young people it is incredibly cool to be trans and ‘lesbian’ is seen as the complete opposite.

nilsmousehammer · 22/10/2022 10:10

It's been around for a long time now on Twitter that nice TQ+ allied lesbians don't call themselves lesbians, because of course the word has been shifted, and a female person calling herself a lesbian is viewed as making a statement about her body not being available to a male TQ+ person. It's not uncommon for a woman saying that to be immediately challenged and harassed to specify her bodily boundaries.

Nice girls say queer, or gay or pan. Making it clear that they are the nice sort who don't actually believe in homosexuality and would never say no to a male TQ+ person.

Male people however using the word lesbian are applauded unconditionally. Someone highly cynical might say that the word has been emptied out for their use.

Humbolt · 22/10/2022 10:12

I would love Gogglebox to cover it. If they do I hope they show Loadsamoney. If they showed Jordan I'm sure they'd only zoom in on the reactions to the knob waggling. Someone on Gogglebox is obsessed with knobs as they constantly show clips of f""king Naked Attraction. And there would probably be choruses of 'fair play like, if you've got it flaunt it' or 'how gorgeous is she?!'

I thought Ben Elton was great. Still has the energy (whether you like the content or not) and I liked seeing a lot of the new comedy acts. I think he trod a clever path through it all and I liked his end monologue.

nilsmousehammer · 22/10/2022 10:13

Welcome to today's episode of 'lets treat female humans like scum because they dare to not unconditionally provide access to their body to stroke male people's egos'.

All the threads on FWR link up this way at the moment. It makes me actually nauseous.

Yes I definitely think there has been an increase since I was young in the 90s. Gay mainly used to mean men, hence LGB.
