Well that's one less beardy man on there defending rape and death threats.

And halves the rate of people wanting or needing them which could well lead to all manner of consequences, but hey at least it's inclusive YAY.

Ha ha! You know you've lost the plot when you go onto a feminist board and tell feminists that feminism centres men.

Apparently only bigots centre women in their feminism now. FFS!

Feyrethefae · 18/10/2022 15:40

Is it just me who refreshed the page a little while ago to find the thread removed by MN because the OP is a PBP? Not sure if it was a glitch or not?

Helleofabore · 18/10/2022 16:00

I believe that the thread has been started by a PBP. These types of opening posts often are.

I wonder why they haven't deleted it? Do they think it was a ploy? Surely not.

Helleofabore · 18/10/2022 16:12

Sometimes they get rid of the PBP and leave the posts up. Other times they delete the posts. There has been at least one other PBP deleted on this thread. Once you see the pattern, you should report them and MNHQ will check out the poster and their history. Don't troll hunt, just report. Troll hunting will still get you deleted.

Feyrethefae · 18/10/2022 16:56

So the thread stays up but the OP can't post on it anymore?

DadJoke · 18/10/2022 17:08

Rowling implied in a reply to Billy Bragg that Norton's measured comments supported rape and death threats, and he was attacked by GC activists who I'll charitably assume just read Rowling's rweet, and didn't watch the interview. Death and rape threats are always wrong, but receiving them does not make you right.

If you had been subjected to a deluge of physically and sexuallt violent threats, death threats, people with banners with hashtags about killing you etc and certain blokes stood by and stayed completely silent while all this was happening to you, didn't ever condemn it. And then further down the line when asked about it said 'there's no such thing as cancel culture, silly, its called accountability innit', knowing what how been thrown at you.......wouldn't you be a bit fucking pissed off?

Some PBPs post or start threads in order to be aggressive or wind women up. Then report themselves, or get someone else to, in order that all the evidence of dick behaviour or derisive arguments gets deleted.

It happens with tedious regularity.

VestofAbsurdity · 18/10/2022 19:25

Also I don’t oppose women rights I did find it interesting that so many anti trans accounts that say they are for womens rights never stand up fast enough about when abortions was being discussed I am a big believer in womens rights it’s just that my feminism also includes trans women

@Freespirit42 I'm guessing your feminism includes transwomen because you believe and buy into the trope that TWAW, you must also therefore believe and buy into the trope that TMAM, so does your feminism include them? Or are TM as you now consider them to be men part of the patriarchy which is what feminism was set up to fight against?

HaveYouSeenNancy · 18/10/2022 20:04

This is a really interesting thread. I had always liked G N and found him funny, and I'm one of many mums who credit JK R with encouraging my son to love reading so I've been a bit torn on the whole twitter debate. This thread has been an absolute eye opener, and I just want to thank all of the intelligent thoughtful posters who took the time to put G N's comments into perspective, and JK R's into context. I'm finding it difficult to understand why his response to JK R's received death threats was that her opinions are 'problematic', instead of commenting on the death threats. So disappointing. Men just don't understand, however they identify.

WinterTrees · 18/10/2022 11:00

I'm still trying to process the 'JKR is not a nice person' comment.

JKR who has dropped off the forbes billionaire list because of her charitable donations. Whose philanthropy is so vast and far-reaching it's almost impossible to discover its full extent (try googling - the results go on and on.) Whose work has taught a generation of children about integrity, loyalty and standing up for what's right, and who has personally championed those whose voices aren't heard with relentless and awe-inspiring courage, at massive personal cost.

Not a nice person. Whereas Graham Norton, whose vainglorious TV show has the regular 'red chair' slot, the sole purpose of which is to humiliate members of the public, and who scores cheap laughs by mocking and sneering at (mostly female) celebrities. Graham Norton who dressed up in a fat suit and smeared fake jizz on his face to lampoon Jade Goody (tweet here twitter.com/JamesHeartfield/status/1581629945541185537/photo/1) Graham Norton is a national treasure. "Kind, intelligent, gentle" (twitter.com/ShappiKhorsandi/status/1581997075121680386) Just trying to be reasonable.

Surprising how many of these lovely, sensitive, #bekind men have evidence of being misogynistic, bullying assholes in their past, isn't it?

He also joined the Britney Spears pile on in 2007. . Sure he wasn't the only one, but some celebrities like Craig Ferguson stood up for her. I have a pretty dark sense of humour and I don't think comedians should censor themselves as 'the line' is different for everyone. But Norton was naive at best in calling cancel culture "accountability culture" and not expecting to then be held accountable for his own actions. I suspect he deleted his twitter account as a tactic to deflect from and to avoid defending his past actions, not because he was threatened or hounded off. Knowing the kind of jokes he used to make, he may have feared this coming for some time, even as he claimed cancel culture didn’t exist. Perhaps he deleted his account because he is simply afraid of being cancelled, or in his words, being held accountable.

ReneBumsWombats · 18/10/2022 23:00

Yes. He always struck me as an intelligent man...odd that he doesn't seem to realise that "accountability" covers him too.

WinterTrees · 18/10/2022 23:22

Nice side swipe at Mariah Carey in that clip too, dontknow 'Lazy fat-arsed bitch.' And an early potshot at Amy Winehouse too.

Knowing the kind of jokes he used to make, he may have feared this coming for some time, even as he claimed cancel culture didn’t exist. Perhaps he deleted his account because he is simply afraid of being cancelled, or in his words, being held accountable.

I think this is spot on. He's worked hard to rebrand himself as a sort of twinkly TV uncle with a slightly naughty sense of fun. Reminders of when he routinely mocked of young women struggling with addiction and in mental health crisis are really going to mess up his avuncular author image.

Welcome to gender critical feminism. Driven and illuminated by transactivism.

BenCooperSuperTrouper · 19/10/2022 01:04

This pretty much sums up the whole sorry saga.

Datun · 19/10/2022 01:47

What about JK Rowling, she asked, a woman, who is ‘deluged with… anger, rage and attempts at censorship’? All because she believes men cannot become women. Norton’s response was staggeringly misjudged and empty of empathy

StrangeLookingParasite · 19/10/2022 02:15

Graham "I didn't think the léopards would eat my face' Norton.

Is that towards trans people and their allies?
As if so it doesn't even begin to make sense.
As they seem to be agreeing with him, saying yes, listen to trans people and their voices, don't just listen to those who aren't and are big celebrities with massive platforms!
Or do you mean the "GC" ones are the ones doing the face eating?! As they are the ones who seem to have a problem with him talking about accountability.

That’s a cracker

what a plonker and a coward Norton is

he wanted his ‘good person’ points without having to do any thinking

bellinisurge · 19/10/2022 08:23

@Quaagars no problem with him talking about accountability. In fact the more these half hearted slebs talk the better. Because it brings sunlight onto the nonsense.
He's too cowardly to talk about it more than easy platitudes. Speaks volumes.

2 excellent articles, sum it up beautifully
