Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Nicola Sturgeon is on Radio 4 now. She's said that her gender reform won't make any difference

Transwomen aren't men. Very tiny numbers of people.

She's such a bloody liar.

Some extracts:

The current process is stigmatising and traumatic. If anyone seeks to misuse the process, they'd be committing a criminal offence.

Individual risk assessments.

Abusive men are a risk to women, we shouldn't seek to be further stigmatise and discriminate against a tiny tiny minority.

Many threats to women. Real feminists should be focusing on them.

I really, really dislike her.

She's giving off strong Aunt Lydia vibes.

oh my god she so is!!

Me? Or NS?
I've never read or watched handmaid's tale, but I gather Aunt Lydia's a baddie...I do hope it's not me.

SirChenjins · 07/10/2022 12:34

Scotland’s Future was nothing more than a vision that was very low on detail.

And yes, Sturgeon did say real feminists.

I have recently seen quite a few groups claim the title ‘real feminists’ lately. I now look at that claim with great reservation.

Feminists centre women. Anyone who puts men’s wishes above women’s needs is not a feminist. Funny how many people say they are when they clearly aren’t. It’s not as if being a feminist gets you any kudos, except from other feminists.

ginghamstarfish · 07/10/2022 12:45

I heard that, she was very shouty and trying to talk over the interviewer all the time, while describing herself as a feminist. Glad I've just moved away from Scotland.

WahineToa · 07/10/2022 12:50

@Baldieheid I’m sorry! I didn’t mean you I meant NS. Aunt Lydia is one of the aunts who ensure the handmaids do as they’re told and beat them if they don’t. In a nutshell. It wouldn’t happen without them.

Phew!
I'm beginning to think I ought to watch or read it. For someone a little fragile of nerves, is it better to read or watch?

WahineToa · 07/10/2022 13:02

@Baldieheid oh you’re like me, I didn’t watch for years because it just made me mad and terrified seeing clips! I haven’t read the book but my DD got me a copy. I think you can handle watching it. There’s enough empowering stuff to keep you going! But it’s frightening how watching it I often think… gosh that’s a bit too close to reality. Like it could easily happen. It’s scary! Reminds me of surrogacy too.

Sturgeon the feminist to her finger tips ought to be concentrating on the rise for 5th year in domestic abuse. The most marginalised 🤷‍♀️

Scotland’s Chief Statistician today released domestic abuse recorded by the police in Scotland, 2020-21.

The main findings include:

The police recorded 65,251 incidents of domestic abuse in 2020-21, an increase of 4% compared to the previous year. This is the fifth year in a row this figure has shown an increase.

In 2020-21, 40% of incidents of domestic abuse recorded by the police in Scotland included the recording of at least one crime or offence.

SirChenjins · 07/10/2022 13:12

Oh for heaven’s sake @littlbrowndog you should know by now that domestic violence primarily affects women (actual women, not the other kind) and therefore not very important in NS’s eyes.

SirChenjins · 07/10/2022 13:14

That sounds like I’m minimising it and I apologise sincerely - the figures are absolutely appalling.

littlbrowndog · 07/10/2022 13:21

I know what you mean sirchejins. I didn’t take it wrong way.

the feminist to he4 fingertips probably hasn’t even noticed this rise.

IcakethereforeIam · 07/10/2022 13:23

The dv figures are really shocking. Iirc the figures went up during lockdown (locked in with the abusers). So, unless some jiggery pokery has been done to take account of this, the fact the numbers are up on top of this is awful.

SirChenjins · 07/10/2022 13:46

Thanks @littlbrowndog I agree, it probably hasn’t even registered and if it has, there won’t be anything like the amount of resources and political focus given to it that the trans agenda receives.

Nicola is a legend and true hero for standing up against the vitriol and fear mongering.

from the parliament report:

'the majority recognise that, when asked about evidence of abuse and concerns, no witness was able to provide concrete examples.’

Scottish Parliament GRA Reform Stage 1 Report para 472

People can fear monger all they like, but when push came to shove, where was the evidence of abuse given to the committee?

She has total respect for looking through this frenzy at the actual reality and trying to make some people’s lives more equal while protecting women’s rights as well.

Absolute legend. That is true leadership sadly lacking elsewhere.

Are you on drugs?

Fluffyfluffflufffluff · 07/10/2022 14:08

NS is a disgrace.

Sometimes I reckon she's a unionist plant.

WarriorN · 07/10/2022 14:16

"Real feminists" my arse.

Anyone opening the door wide to males is nothing but a dick panderer.

I won’t even go to visit. Just keep away these days.

That's a shame.
You won't be affected by her on a visit and it is pretty fabulous.
I hate the SNP, but I don't hate Scotland or living here, and I say that as an English person.

Same here @JohnsShirt The Tories are wreaking havoc on UK policies and the Brexit shitshow was overwhelming the result of English voters, but I wouldn’t be so narrow minded to say I wouldn’t visit England.

ArabellaScott · 07/10/2022 14:45

nauticant · 07/10/2022 08:38

I think Sturgeon's discomfort is that the plan was to rush this through with as little debate as possible and if it led to assaults and rapes she'd be able to say "this is very unfortunate, but how were we to know?"

Every time she has to engage with questioning, she takes on board a bit more ownership and a bit more responsibility. She knows this and she doesn't like it.

100%

Fluffyfluffflufffluff · 07/10/2022 14:08

There's certainly a growing body of opinion that the SNP under Sturgeon have no interest at all in Independence.

Whereareyourshoes · 07/10/2022 14:59

When ‘woman’ can mean anything and nothing then ‘feminism’ can mean anything and nothing. Nicola’s ‘feminism’ makes life more dangerous for women and girls and she cares not one bit, instead continuing to push this creepy anti-reality agenda along with the rest of the SNP, the Greens and the Lib Dems. I’m always curious why so many of our MSPs want to prioritise making it easier for male people to access all places where women and girls are vulnerable and sadly don’t believe many of them have any good intentions.

Last time we visited Scotland we nearly drowned the weather was so bad so I have no desire to return. I note you appear quite happy with the SNP ruining Scotland.

I've had a great time in England this year, been a few times and I'm spending Christmas there.
I won't be affected by the Tories since I'm not spending my time with them personally!
It's silly to avoid a whole Country you'd like to visit because you don't like their ruling party.

You note wrong.

Delighted to hear you won’t be returning,
