Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Nicola Sturgeon is on Radio 4 now. She's said that her gender reform won't make any difference

Transwomen aren't men. Very tiny numbers of people.

She's such a bloody liar.

Some extracts:

The current process is stigmatising and traumatic. If anyone seeks to misuse the process, they'd be committing a criminal offence.

Individual risk assessments.

Abusive men are a risk to women, we shouldn't seek to be further stigmatise and discriminate against a tiny tiny minority.

Many threats to women. Real feminists should be focusing on them.

I really, really dislike her.

And yes, Sturgeon did say real feminists.

I have recently seen quite a few groups claim the title ‘real feminists’ lately. I now look at that claim with great reservation.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 07/10/2022 09:18

The fact that Nicola Sturgeon lies is not news to any of us living in Scotland. And not just on gender reform, but on the economy, education, Covid, dealing with sexual predators in her own party, ferries, etc etc etc.

SirChenjins · 07/10/2022 09:20

Sturgeon has to come out with this sort of guff in order to appease the Greens who give her the majority Govt she needs.

RoyalCorgi · 07/10/2022 09:07

The current process is stigmatising and traumatic. If anyone seeks to misuse the process, they'd be committing a criminal offence.

How would you ever know? If the only thing that determines that you're a woman is that you say that you feel like a woman, how can anyone ever be accused of misusing the process?

I can't get over the mindless stupidity of it. Surely Sturgeon doesn't really believe this shit?

Absolutely this. It's farcical. She can say that someone can be charged for making a false declaration all she likes but until she defines what 'living as a woman is' and what a 'woman' is no-one will ever be able to be prosecuted for it. And of course she doesn't want to/can't define those things because it will expose the madness of it all.

MishyJDI · 07/10/2022 09:23

Nicola is a legend and true hero for standing up against the vitriol and fear mongering.

from the parliament report:

'the majority recognise that, when asked about evidence of abuse and concerns, no witness was able to provide concrete examples.’

Scottish Parliament GRA Reform Stage 1 Report para 472

People can fear monger all they like, but when push came to shove, where was the evidence of abuse given to the committee?

She has total respect for looking through this frenzy at the actual reality and trying to make some people’s lives more equal while protecting women’s rights as well.

Absolute legend. That is true leadership sadly lacking elsewhere.

SirChenjins · 07/10/2022 09:26

Awww, look - the SNP have sent in a wee bot 😂

midgetastic · 07/10/2022 09:26

Who did she ask ?

You don't find evidence of problems if you refuse to engage with the people who have had problems

we say ‘I have a vagina and like trains therefore I am actually a man’?

It's not even less "rational" than that though, isn't it, Flora?

It's "I have a vagina and I have an indescribable feeling therefore I am actually a man".

Igneococcus · 07/10/2022 09:31

I want someone to ask her what she personally gets out of this. Why is this the hill she is prepared to die on? I don't get it. I'm the granddaughter and sister of politicians (not in the UK) and I can't see them ever to stake (or past tense in my granddad's case) their entire reputation on something so wrong and so flimsy. I do not understand Nicola Sturgeon one bit.

nauticant · 07/10/2022 08:35

Mishal Husain found a question which expressed the problem in clear and non-sensational terms (paraphrased): Any man in this room could spend 3 months living as a woman*, declare themselves to be a woman, and then get into women's changing rooms and prisons, that's right isn't it?

Sturgeon had to respond with gabbly word soup sounding both evasive and distinctly uncomfortable.

Husain was sounding a long way away from TWAW.

* undefined

It's not just any man, it's all predators.

She should be asked, so any rapist or pedophile can do this thing for a couple of months, then access incarcerated women, refuges, changing rooms, etc.

Baldieheid · 07/10/2022 09:32

"More equal", huh, Michy?

Nice wee Animal Farm moment there.

HipTightOnions · 07/10/2022 09:33

She can't back down. She'd have to admit she was wrong and stupid. I suspect that's the motive for a lot of people now.

JohnsShirt · 07/10/2022 09:37

Dreadful woman.

Florabritannica · 07/10/2022 09:38

@HipTightOnions So true. Or even ‘I have a vagina but I know I am a man therefore I am a man.’

Ramblingnamechanger · 07/10/2022 09:38

haven't seen you around these parts for a while Mishy Perhaps you would like to explain how enabling males into female spaces such as prisons and rape crisis centres helps the most vulnerable? And how her policies are helping women?

Igneococcus · 07/10/2022 09:39

My opinion of her would increase massively if she'd admit to being wrong.

meditatenext · 07/10/2022 09:46

Fgs, what’s the punishment for impersonating a woman - after saying you thought you were one - only to for ex assault someone in the changing rooms in Primark or wherever..? There would have to be a crime which would be bloody impossible to prove!

He would then be punished ‘as a woman’ and going to a womens prison..( to meet more vulnerable women? )

The punishment is just a great outcome for a predator. Never before has so much access been given to womens bodies!!

Its not thought through IN ANY WAY.

catandcoffee · 07/10/2022 09:46

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 07/10/2022 08:36

How the fuck does a person "live as a woman"?

The question that no one has EVER been able to answer.
(without the normal stereotype crap )

Ok here's one example of self id causing problems.

‘There would have to be a crime which would be bloody impossible to prove!‘
—meaning how do you prove someone ‘became a woman’ with nefarious intent?

sorry not being very clear

MarshaBradyo · 07/10/2022 09:49

I had missed all this so googled and absolutely love JKR on this. A powerhouse for women’s rights

Kellie45 · 07/10/2022 09:50

Frankly I have nothing personal against Scottish people but I do wish Scotland would leave the UK as we who are left would be better off financially without the burden of having to carry their economy. Also many profitable Scottish businesses would probably come to England rather than exist under Sturgeon. The other thing is we wouldn’t have to put up with the good lady’s crackpot ideas. She could get on with it with the people who voted for her

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 07/10/2022 09:55

Moving on from "what is a woman" I'd like someone to ask Nicola Sturgeon "So what exactly is the difference between a man and a trans woman? Where do we find this difference? How could we recognise it?" (I don't even think a diagnosis of gender dysphoria really does the job either, but at least it was a bit of a filter.)

I live in Scotland and don't want to leave the UK either but if Sturgeon did a better job than RUK on this issue I could be tempted. Only now we're doing a worse job.

I'm sure Nicola Sturgeon does believe TWAW. Her right-on friends believe it, and she is a right-on person. She doesn't need to understand it to believe it.

Roomytrouser · 07/10/2022 09:57

I grew up something in Scotland that was full of English retired people. They spent their tax paying lives in England then moved to Scotland for the period of their lives when their health costs were highest. I really dislike Nicola Sturgeon’s version of the SNP but it’s way too simplistic to make comments like the economy one above.
