Carly-May Kavanagh

There are rumours circulating on Twitter that Carly-May Kavanagh (the one who screams at babies: Daily Mail) has, despite her “apology” been suspended from the Labour Party. Presumably such a suspension would have an impact on her job as Lloyd Russell-Moyle‘s head of policy?

Apparently if she is suspended it [probably] won’t be made public. Given the reason for her [potential] suspension; if Labour actually do take action, you’d think they’d want to reassure people that they expect their members to uphold certain standards. I mean, “not screaming abuse at infants” is less upholding a standard than it is failing to trip over pebbles of basic decency…

Clearly one cannot put too much weight into Random Person Says Unevidenced Thing. However, it would be a foolish rumour to start without cause, so I thought it was worth starting a thread here to see if there are developments to follow.

Should Kavanagh face consequences for her behaviour it will be a watershed moment: Labour acknowledging women have rights all their own, including the rights to assemble & to speak on issues of concern to them, such as their need for single sex provisions.

The SFW event was being live streamed from the inner circle by Hearts of Oak. Who are in fact far right nationalists.

Posie Parker must have know this - it was a camera set up on a tripod right by the speakers, not a random phone.

So CMK had a point. There were actual fascists there at the rally in central Brighton, all condoned (and possibly arranged?) by PP.

No obviously not the dad and the sweet little baby and CMK shouting at them was deranged.

So she could have shouted and ranted at some actual fascists yet choose to shout at a baby?

EfingNora · 23/09/2022 18:19

"Not to be rude but Carly-May Kavanagh looks like an overgrown toddler in this footage. What is it with this pastel coloured, dungaree style? I've seen it on a few 'non-binary' women it's such an infantilising look and in stark contrast with the aggression displayed."

"I think it's just kind of the uniform adopted by TRAs (along with the multi-coloured hair), maybe to desexualise themselves mimicking a pre-pubescent state - perhaps in support of the use puberty blockers? So either that or the black militia style outfits will signal to others of the same mind-set that they are 'one of them'."

Maybe it's because they know how much their movement hates women?

Can we at least all agree that the only thing you need to say to a person with a baby is 'aw cute'?

I've never thought to call a parent a fascist even if I was at an event with another side on a face off. It's a baby!

ScreamingMeMe · 23/09/2022 17:53

Ok I take it back. She hasn't learned a thing.

She has been abusive to birdy previously. To be honest I don't buy that she was caught up in the moment, I think she is just a bully who gets a kick out of this.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 23/09/2022 18:43

They do whatever their thought leader Stuart Lee instructs them to do without question.

Grin bonkers

Stuart Lee? <shakes head>

What makes me angry is that today the Conservatives have come up with a budget that could well crash the economy and will leave many people struggling just to survive. Meanwhile Carly spends her time making Labour unelectable Never have we needed a decent opposition more. The more Labour spout this BS the less likely we are to get rid of the worst govt ever. I have little sympathy for that reason.

Yes I think Labour are teetering on the brink of unforgiveable now. They have handed the Tories more years to bring incredible suffering to so many people.

Torunette · 23/09/2022 19:05

I really wish these people affiliated to the Labour Party would stop calling everyone a bloody fascist. It just hammers another nail into the coffin of the Opposition and makes life so much harder for sensible Labour politicians and candidates.

And it's so goddamn politically illiterate. Fascism is, fundamentally, a revolutionary movement; it's opposed to conservatism and liberalism (because, by default, every revolutionary movement is). It plays into a "them and us" narrative, glorifies youth and masculinity, and wields authoritarianism.

How exactly does FPW fit into any of that model? A bunch of middle-aged conservative and liberal women wanting to retain their rights? It's practically the definition of not-fascism-whatsoever.

I can't with it. It's just so much nonsense.

SapphosRock · 23/09/2022 16:23

I think it's therefore only fair to acknowledge that most of the TRAs protesting were probably not in agreement with CMK or the black pampers.

When I went it all seemed fairly good natured.

Really?

You should be pointing the finger at the protesting TRAs for inviting them - a call went out to fight Poise by any means necessary. It's high time the TRA side/allies took the beam out of their own eye and took a good look at who they are associating with.

Did any of these 'good natured' TRAs who were protesting do what you insist Posie should have done and found out who these black pampers/CMK were and ask that they remove themselves, point out they don't want them representing them?

Double standards much.

This is an excellent article on why many feminists in Brighton stayed away.

But those that would have you back in the kitchen will never be there to fight for your rights. There is no such thing as single issue feminism. No such thing as a decent fascist.

I remember when you hated Posie for being terribly anti trans rather than for being insufficiently aligned with socialist feminism.

Plus ca change..

IcakethereforeIam · 23/09/2022 19:56

I didn't go because I'm miles away, I had no idea there so called 'far right' people were there. I suspect many people who did attend, on both sides, are still blissfully ignorant. Baby shouter probably didn't know, that's not why she called a baby a fascist. She may know now and is comforting herself, 'see, I was right...I was right'.

That wasn't an apology. That was performative sackcloth and ashes, no doubt she got love bombed when she posted it.

The 'far right' being there isn't 'platforming' them and the tras would still have been there and would have been as vile regardless.

It's not excellent at all. It's hyperbolic nonsense.

ArabellaScott · 23/09/2022 20:05

Sapphos, I'm sorry, that article is weak. Sneery, full of vague disinformation and yes, hyperbole.

ScreamingMeMe · 23/09/2022 20:05

I mean this is just disgusting. Untrue and unfair.

"I have watched with increasing dismay as large chunks of the now so called gender critical movement have broken off into a mass, populist affair, in thrall to the cult of personality and ready to bat eyes at anyone offering crumbs of attention. Racists, anti-abortionists, religious fundamentalists, thugs: all are welcome so long as they are prepared to adhere to the one and only principle. So called allies can spew bile about immigrants and single mothers all day long so long as they are prepared to say men aren’t women."

A freelance writer known for her extreme right wing views was also among those who stood up to speak.

Who is she referring to?

SDP might be worth a look, for anyone wanting a political org that’s soft left-ish whilst knowing what a woman is and valuing freedom of speech?

here’s the SDP page on Sex & Gender:

sdp.org.uk/policies/transgender-and-biological-sex-based-rights/

and their page on Academic Freedom:

sdp.org.uk/policies/charter-for-academic-freedom/

I was going to say the exact same thing. Have been looking at them for a while as an alternative to the main parties. No candidate sadly in my local area though.

I’ve been lurking this board for a while but the baby bully (and listening to Helen Joyce on Jordan Peterson) has driven me out of lurkdom. I cannot fathom the mess we are in if people like CMK have any type of influence in the halls of Westminster.

Hepwo · 23/09/2022 20:12

Jeni Harvey asks "had nobody thought to question who they were given that they were filming from right in front of the stage?"

Helen Saxby is now moaning online because a "right wing" had a camera filming her speaking. Helen clearly wasn't bothered enough at the time to question the person in front of her with a camera, so the answer is no Jeni, the people so concerned about their reputation now, had not thought to question who it was behind the camera they were so happily speaking into!

JacquelinePot · 23/09/2022 20:13

If anyone wants to know where KJK stands on [xyz "wrong" person] attending or steaming her events/speaking there/agreeing with her you can hear for yourself by watching her Tuesday live stream.

If you cba I will summarise:

  • no time for political purity
  • the house is on fire, I don't care who brings water to put it out
  • free speech
  • no vetting of speakers, all are welcome

I hope I got that right, that's basically what I took away

Signalbox · 23/09/2022 20:14

Who is she referring to?

And why not just name them?
