There are rumours circulating on Twitter that Carly-May Kavanagh (the one who screams at babies: Daily Mail) has, despite her “apology” been suspended from the Labour Party. Presumably such a suspension would have an impact on her job as Lloyd Russell-Moyle‘s head of policy?

Apparently if she is suspended it [probably] won’t be made public. Given the reason for her [potential] suspension; if Labour actually do take action, you’d think they’d want to reassure people that they expect their members to uphold certain standards. I mean, “not screaming abuse at infants” is less upholding a standard than it is failing to trip over pebbles of basic decency…

Clearly one cannot put too much weight into Random Person Says Unevidenced Thing. However, it would be a foolish rumour to start without cause, so I thought it was worth starting a thread here to see if there are developments to follow.

Should Kavanagh face consequences for her behaviour it will be a watershed moment: Labour acknowledging women have rights all their own, including the rights to assemble & to speak on issues of concern to them, such as their need for single sex provisions.

Is it illegal to be a fascist?

Is it illegal to be a fascist?

It is if you are a member of a proscribed terrorist organisation like National Action.

Signalbox · 29/09/2022 12:45

But presumably that's more about it being deemed to be a terrorist group than being fascistic.

Is it illegal to be a fascist?

Not in the UK, where we have 29 proud fascists on a dwindling to dust membership list:

hopenothate.org.uk/2022/03/02/far-right-roundup-national-front-leader-quits-britain/

it might be in Italy tho?

This thread will close soon.

Similar conversations are taking place on the Sarah Ditum thread and the Jean Hatchet thread.

Here’s Birdie Rose addressing Carly May ‘s behaviour directly (Birdie has had previous experience with CMK):

BR talking about CMK on YouTube

Helleofabore · 29/09/2022 13:37

CMK's screaming will go down in history in the same way the 'Repent Motherfucker' screamer will.

REPENT MOTHERFUCKER!

YOUR RAISING A FASCIST BABY!

Jean Hatchet can be very odd sometimes. She can be quite brilliant but equally she can be dogmatically bonkers. She was the latter on here once.

It involved a musician who was sacked by his band after he was convicted of domestic violence. The band had behaved impeccably, supporting the woman but saying nothing which would have prejudiced the trial, especially given the woman in question hadn't wanted a prosecution, but Jean was frankly ranting and raving about them for little more than the crime of being men.

I've known her to be deeply unpleasant to a few women. So much so I find it hard to reconcile that part of her personality with someone who campaigns against violence against women. Very odd indeed.

I thought this was really good, and from the heart. From DJ Lippy:

After all this talk of CMK I walked right past her on the way to work this morning.

Small world.

No babies were being yelled at.

LunaLights · 30/09/2022 09:15

CMK was on her way to work? So not suspended or out of a job then?

Interesting.

SapphosRock · 30/09/2022 09:35

I was on the way to work. I have no idea where she was going.

It is interesting to know what the bar is chez Sapphos... "look at that fine upstanding citizen - no babies are being shouted at right now, so they must be one of the good guys".

I'm glad there's still room on the thread for Sappho to watch that and apologise.

The Brighton feminists are already demanding denunciations under the video!

They are crazy. She's obviously worried she's going to drop off Lloyd Russell-Moyle's Christmas card list if she can't get one.

NecessaryScene · 01/10/2022 15:19

The Brighton feminists are already demanding denunciations under the video!

And "denunciations on demand" are of course a huge part of the problem.

All the sort of people who readily go along with denunciations on demand end up denouncing TERFs, JK Rowling, etc, because any sort of denunciation on demand is not going to be based on personal knowledge - it's just assuaging the person making the demand. Who has their own agenda, and quite likely a distorted view of the person they want denounced. Certainly if they're going around demanding denunciations, they're probably not very clear-headed about their target.

So it makes a very strong principle to outright refuse any such request. If you're going to demand that I denounce someone, I will not do it, on principle. I'm not going to give you the satisfaction. Maybe if I had some reason to care about HoO or whoever else, I might have investigated them and decided "I don't like them", but I'm not quite sure why anyone needs to know my viewpoints on random people, so I wouldn't be inclined to broadcast them.

And, of course, demanding denunciations is a hallmark of authoritarian fascist/communist regimes. Much anti-fascism, folks.

ArabellaScott · 01/10/2022 15:22

Now tempted to somehow force you to denounce someone, Necessary. Go on. Just a little one. Stalin? Surely you're not BFFs with Stalin?

NecessaryScene · 01/10/2022 15:25

Does she do anything weird with Weetabix?

ArabellaScott · 01/10/2022 15:30

'in August 1932 a decree was introduced wherein the theft of even a handful of grain could be a capital offence'

Yes, probably.

IcakethereforeIam · 01/10/2022 15:46

Thanks for the links to Alf's analysis. It should lay this particular myth. Think of all the posts that could have been unposted, if it had been available a few days ago.

Crumbled up weetabix stirred with hot milk and sprinkled with sugar, food of the Gods.

Don't hold your breath Tinsel, trans widows need you.

SapphosRock · 02/10/2022 07:42

Let me get this straight.

A man has an opinion on how women's rights activism should be done in Brighton.

The feminists living in Brighton have a different opinion on how women's rights activism should be done in Brighton.

I need to apologise that feminists who live in the same town as me have unapologetic opinions on women's rights activism where we live? And that they disagree with a man?

I didn't think this thread could get any weirder.

I am sorry that I know some strong women with their own opinions.

PP has the option to distance herself from the far right activists who attended and filmed her event. She could clarify herself that they weren't invited. She has chosen not to do that.

Local feminists have the freedom to believe that far right fascists filming women at a women's rally without their consent should be denounced. They have chosen to say that.

Both positions are worthy of respect in a democratic society. It's how democracy works.

The alternative is... fascism.

NecessaryScene · 02/10/2022 08:22

So you didn't watch it? I'm sure he has an opinion, but he's not expressing it there. You just wrote a total non-sequitur.

As he said:

I put it together in the hope that some decent information about exactly what did and did not happen could help the conversation to move along with clarity.
