There are rumours circulating on Twitter that Carly-May Kavanagh (the one who screams at babies: Daily Mail) has, despite her “apology” been suspended from the Labour Party. Presumably such a suspension would have an impact on her job as Lloyd Russell-Moyle‘s head of policy?

Apparently if she is suspended it [probably] won’t be made public. Given the reason for her [potential] suspension; if Labour actually do take action, you’d think they’d want to reassure people that they expect their members to uphold certain standards. I mean, “not screaming abuse at infants” is less upholding a standard than it is failing to trip over pebbles of basic decency…

Clearly one cannot put too much weight into Random Person Says Unevidenced Thing. However, it would be a foolish rumour to start without cause, so I thought it was worth starting a thread here to see if there are developments to follow.

Should Kavanagh face consequences for her behaviour it will be a watershed moment: Labour acknowledging women have rights all their own, including the rights to assemble & to speak on issues of concern to them, such as their need for single sex provisions.

Isn't that YouTube clip of the person who spoke and then tried to steal the microphone?

Is that the behaviour that posting that clip is supposed to highlight? That an extreme trans activist cannot be trusted to speak and then let others speak? Or that they think stealing someone's property is what, ok because the people speaking were hateful in that person's mind (while in fact are women speaking about their experiences)?

Well done.

I am sure that you thought that posting that clip was a great 'gotcha'.

Helleofabore · 27/09/2022 10:56

Here you go. Around the 1:44 mark. That person attempts to steal the microphone. So much respect for others. Thank you again for highlighting that. How dishonest.

Thanks Boxer random plopper. Strange that despite this happening, even this weekend KJK reiterated that any woman is welcome to speak at the microphone, whatever their thoughts. It is an open invitation. Even ones who can offer nothing but a mantra such as that speaker.

And Boxer did you notice that she just wandered up and asked and spoke.

How easy was that, eh?

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 27/09/2022 11:00

gosh that poor woman, she tried to steal someone else's property and it was taken away from her. That's awful. TRAs are allowed to do whatever they want all the time, doesn't everyone know that?

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2022 11:03

Clip doesn't show what actually happened. There must have been plenty of people filming, is there any evidence of this alleged 'assault'?

Well yes, I for one am interested in your perspective on that, as a former TRA.

Absolutely, that has been interesting and in my opinion understandable

Helleofabore · 27/09/2022 11:10

Did they say that? I couldn't hear it clearly. Or did they say that someone grabbed their arm to retrieve the microphone?

If they were punched, then of course that is not acceptable.

However, what was the purpose of posting that clip? (apart to point out that actually any female CAN speak at these events)

The person spoke. They were not chased down because they spoke. They stole the microphone.

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2022 11:11

'she says' is not enough evidence to convince me, I'm afraid.

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2022 11:12

To clarify, someone on the internet saying 'she says' is not what I'm looking for! Is this in the clip?

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 27/09/2022 11:14

imagine living your life such that everyone is your enemy unless you agree with them completely?

I'd never manage it, one acquaintance of mine said that she hasn't many friends as she seems to upset people. She is very religious and we have to avoid certain topics completely and I was upset with her at one comment about my sons engagement and his bedroom 🙄. So that's why she has no friends! Cept me...and I'm basically just sorry for her

Hm. Someone - the police officer? says 'did he hit you though' and the woman says 'yeah'. Further conversation that's quite hard to hear. Another policeman says 'you snatched the mic' and the woman says 'I didn't, he snatched the mic'.

Nobody should be hitting anyone. Nobody should be stealing things.

It's pretty straightforward, really.

I just checked and I agree with you Arabella.

She also claims to have been 'given the mic'. Does she actually believe that KJK 'gave' her ownership of the mic and that she could take it home?

Yo, Ru. It popped up again on my feed. A new subject every time I drop by!

Maybe there will be a fourth today? It would break the pattern of a month.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/09/2022 11:31

If you ran out of a shop having stolen something, and people shouted "stop thief", as they often do, rightly or wrongly you might get physically tackled by bystanders. Don't steal people's stuff in full view of others.

If she was hurt by someone and feels they used unnecessary violence in getting the mic back she needs to report it to the police. It has nothing to do with the format of the event itself. This reminds me of when a TRA tried to steal Maria McLachlan's camera and a few pictures were made to look like she had been the aggressor when she resisted them taking it from her.

Dreadful thing to say lennon

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 27/09/2022 11:35

helle number 4 do you think?

TheClogLady · 27/09/2022 11:38

‘Taking the mic’ is supposed to be slang for becoming the focus of attention, it’s not supposed to be a literal invitation to take the PA equipment away in your handbag.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/09/2022 11:39

So TRAs believe they have carte blanche to:

Steal people's expensive tech without receiving any pushback

Turn up to a peaceful women's event dressed all in black with balaclavas on, weighted gloves etc

Throw smoke bombs into a crowd of unprotected people, including children

Throw glitter, targeting black women with dreadlocks and then lol about it online

Carry threatening signs with misogynistic slurs and expletives on

Shout into random people's faces that they are fascists, including babies

This isn't an exhaustive list, just based on this event and a few others.

SapphosRock · 27/09/2022 11:40

If she hadn't stolen the mic then he wouldn't have hit her.

Are you lost? A feminism forum is a strange place to excuse male violence against women.
