Carly-May Kavanagh

There are rumours circulating on Twitter that Carly-May Kavanagh (the one who screams at babies: Daily Mail) has, despite her “apology” been suspended from the Labour Party. Presumably such a suspension would have an impact on her job as Lloyd Russell-Moyle‘s head of policy?

Apparently if she is suspended it [probably] won’t be made public. Given the reason for her [potential] suspension; if Labour actually do take action, you’d think they’d want to reassure people that they expect their members to uphold certain standards. I mean, “not screaming abuse at infants” is less upholding a standard than it is failing to trip over pebbles of basic decency…

Clearly one cannot put too much weight into Random Person Says Unevidenced Thing. However, it would be a foolish rumour to start without cause, so I thought it was worth starting a thread here to see if there are developments to follow.

Should Kavanagh face consequences for her behaviour it will be a watershed moment: Labour acknowledging women have rights all their own, including the rights to assemble & to speak on issues of concern to them, such as their need for single sex provisions.

'Why the fuck would anyone think that she is against a male wanking into a cup, unless they are determined to have bad fucking faith interpretations because of their own prejudices?'

Excellent question

Here you go. Helen Saxby tweeting against the commodification of women's bodies for reproduction.

Start a page for her too!

TheBiologyStupid · 24/09/2022 20:46

I can understand why CMK would be upset and angry at the presence of fascists in Brighton.

Then why did she scream abuse at a baby and not at the actual (alleged) fascists? FFS!

She says the words 'I am totally in opposition to donor conception' which means she is totally in opposition to the way most lesbians conceive their children.

If she meant something else then she should have said something else.

It's not 'bad faith' to take somebody at their word.

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 20:50

In fact, here is Helen Saxby writing something similar to what KJK has been demonised for by Women's Place and on that page.

Feminists abhor racism and homophobia as much as they do sexism, but crucially, as feminists we put the women first. Some recent examples of where this approach has been lacking in the public sphere include the practice of FGM and the sex grooming scandals in Rotherham and other places. Left to the authorities, cultural and racial sensitivities have taken precedence over the safety of women and girls.

The difference, KJK was blunter.

notthenewsinbriefs.wordpress.com/2015/03/21/feminism-is-for-women/

Now... what was it that KJK said about critical race theory that you agree with your friend should be denounced?

Hepwo · 24/09/2022 20:54

It's not just wanking into a cup! Children born from donor sperm are entitled to know who their father is once they reach 18 if they don't already.

Men have to agree to this before donating. That's not trivial.

No. Sapphos. That doesn't wash. Did your friend clarify this before posting a list of sins? Because, that is a pretty fucked up thing to have done. Posting a list like that.

Have you actually looked up the % of women in the UK who have assisted pregnancies through donor egg?

When you reach the older age bracket it starts to get quite high.

The UK’s fertility regulator The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), is still collecting data for the past two years but in 2019, 4,433 IVF cycles were completed using donor eggs, with the figure doubling since 2009. The demand for eggs is high and social media posts are a quick and cheap way to reach potential donors, particularly from under-represented communities.

Better add that to Helen Saxby's list of sins page along with her being against the commodification of women's bodies.

LK1972 · 24/09/2022 20:57

It's bad faith to reinterpret something by relating it to your own situation @SapphosRock. It's like interpreting 'men are predominantly responsible for sexual violence' as 'I'm a man and you're saying I'm a rapist'.

Egg donation is 'problematic', in your parlance. PP was expressing unease about something that could be egg or sperm donation - why would it be about something to do with men wanking in a cup, when PP is all about protecting women from harm? Why would you interpret it that way?

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 21:01

So it is ok to try to convince others to give Carly-May Kavanagh the benefit of the doubt for actually screaming in a babies face and throwing around the word fascist. While supporting a page demonising Kellie Jay Keen which include at least two items that Helen Saxby has spoken about in the past.

LK1972 · 24/09/2022 21:04

Sorry, I don't mean you were writing in bad faith @SapphosRock , I've seen your posts and your journey, and that your wife is not with you on this, so it must be really tough.

SapphosRock · 24/09/2022 21:04

Apologies to disappear mid conversation but I have to do something now so I can't post any more.

@Helleofabore you have been a great support to me on other matters and I hope we can agree to disagree in this case.

So, she deserves to be demonised on that page like your friend has done, because someone didn't quite understand and never sought clarification about something she said.

This is a woman who is bringing together other women who would not be joining this fight otherwise, to fight for women to have single sex spaces and for women and children to be properly safeguarded. She is bringing people together to fight for female single sex spaces, for instance, rape crisis centres!

And there are people who fully support her being demonised on a web page in the way she has.

I am not sure I can be any blunter.

IcakethereforeIam · 24/09/2022 21:09

Oh, @SapphosRock probably won't read this now. But that's a heckofa line up of feminists. It's a pity they didn't go to SFW, they may have taught and learned a few things.

I hope we're not like the tras, we can differ and disagree without being arseholes and throwing the word fascist around.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/09/2022 21:13

we can differ and disagree without being arseholes and throwing the word fascist around

something to aim for

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 21:14

I think that it would be a start to have women who are proud to call themselves feminists and who dictate the purity of the people who join their group for support, to not create sin dossiers on the web of other women based on their own deep prejudices.

None of us are going to agree on everything. And there is plenty to debate. But creating a sin dossier really is fucking disgraceful when nearly half of the items listed have also been said by others who are not denounced.

It is the blatant hypocrisy that makes my head spin here.

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 21:16

Sorry.

But creating a sin dossier really is fucking disgraceful when nearly half of the items listed have also been said by others who are not denounced.

Should be

But creating a sin dossier really is fucking disgraceful, even more so when nearly half of the items listed have also been said by others who are not denounced.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 24/09/2022 21:23

Better add that to Helen Saxby's list of sins page along with her being against the commodification of women's bodies.

If we’re saying that anyone who’s associated with someone is automatically responsible for their sins, we’ll want a page on that site for her sister Stephanie D-A as well.

FOJN · 24/09/2022 21:32

Julie Bindel has written for the Peter Tatchel Foundation and writes for both the Daily Mail and The Spectator. Is she paedophile apologist adjacent and a fascist/nazi?

Suzanne Moore writes for The Telegraph so she's definitely a fascist. It's possible I'm confusing fascist with making a living and it looks like I'm not the only one confused.

Sure we can agree to disagree because we are adults.

I am just very frustrated by the superficiality of that web page being on a site that is supposed to be a beacon of good feminism. It comes across as anything but.

However, I also understand difficult situations sometimes means people’s motivations are impenetrable.

TheClogLady · 24/09/2022 21:38

Julie Bindel has shared platforms with, shock! Horror!

Milo Yiannopoulos! She may as well be publicly snogging Steve Bannon while wearing a Pepe the Frog T shirt!

picklemewalnuts · 24/09/2022 21:43

Little OJ is a fan of Sarah Ditun apparently. Does that mean he's GC?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/09/2022 21:51

If he's said that, I'm pretty sure he's lying to capitalise on this situation.

picklemewalnuts · 24/09/2022 21:43

Little OJ is a fan of Sarah Ditun apparently. Does that mean he's GC?

Or does it mean that Sarah Ditum is now associated with a misogynist ? Perhaps she needs to only speak in a place where no one can amplify her words that could be interpreted by those determined to have bad faith interpretations as an association. Writing anything done can be very problematic as it can so easily be quoted.

Datun · 24/09/2022 21:53

SapphosRock · Today 18:13
Oh Datun of course it would.

There were fascists there. Lots of high profile people on the far right. Andy Ngo was there for goodness sake.

Sapphos, you were there. By your logic, you are as guilty of aligning with fascists as anyone else.

And again, by your reasoning, how many fascists attending the talk would make the baby shouting perfectly acceptable?

I honestly don't know what your problem is with Posie, but these arguments are just risible nonsense.
