There are rumours circulating on Twitter that Carly-May Kavanagh (the one who screams at babies: Daily Mail) has, despite her “apology” been suspended from the Labour Party. Presumably such a suspension would have an impact on her job as Lloyd Russell-Moyle‘s head of policy?

Apparently if she is suspended it [probably] won’t be made public. Given the reason for her [potential] suspension; if Labour actually do take action, you’d think they’d want to reassure people that they expect their members to uphold certain standards. I mean, “not screaming abuse at infants” is less upholding a standard than it is failing to trip over pebbles of basic decency…

Clearly one cannot put too much weight into Random Person Says Unevidenced Thing. However, it would be a foolish rumour to start without cause, so I thought it was worth starting a thread here to see if there are developments to follow.

Should Kavanagh face consequences for her behaviour it will be a watershed moment: Labour acknowledging women have rights all their own, including the rights to assemble & to speak on issues of concern to them, such as their need for single sex provisions.

is Andy Ngo a fascist?

I thought he was a gay Vietnamese American conservative who having grown up in a family who literally escaped communism to save themselves has dedicated many hundreds of hours of his life to researching and documenting the crimes of self-described communists, Antifa (at great personal cost to himself, including a violent attack resulting in a head injury).

I’d love to see the proof that Ngo is a fascist, and by proof I don’t mean ‘Anyone who criticises Antifa is obviously a Fascist’ or ‘Andy Ngo gave a talk at the Heritage Foundation so he’s obviously a Fascist’ or ‘That bloke from Mumford and Sons got cancelled for tweeting something positive about Andy Ngo’s book on Antifa so definitely a fascist’

Here’s that talk, btw:

Oh, no, Sappho!

Disingenuous. That's not why she screamed at the baby.

She did that because she's a nasty piece of work who has decided that her gang are right and anyone who doesn't do as they're told deserves to be screamed at.

SapphosRock · 24/09/2022 18:13

Oh Datun of course it would.

There were fascists there. Lots of high profile people on the far right. Andy Ngo was there for goodness sake.

It's weird because I've been to lots of public events, lots of feminist events, open mic events. Attended by people across the political spectrum. They all managed to go ahead without being attended by far right fascists.

I can understand why CMK would be upset and angry at the presence of fascists in Brighton.

I cannot understand why she chose to take her anger out on an innocent baby and dad.

Because CMK is a coward. If there were actual fascists there (I would personally struggle to pick them out of a line up but if she recognised individuals or an organisation and objected to them being there, at a public event) then she could have addressed those people directly. Instead she picked on a dad holding a baby who she could pretty much count on not retaliating.

It certainly would have made for better optics. 'Woman makes a stand against far right groups attending event' would have come across rather less unhinged than 'woman screams abuse into innocent baby's face'. People would have found it difficult to object to the former. They certainly can and do object to the latter.

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 18:29

Oh good grief!!!

The bar is set very low on who qualifies as a fascist too.

I really am quite concerned at the hyperbolic tendencies of the extremes of politics.

It is like the use of the word ‘genocide’ by the extreme trans activists, this word fascist is ridiculous to be leveled at some of those people implicated above.

It really sounds like an episode of the Young Ones when people do this. But crack on. People seem determined to do it.

It must make them feel very sanctimonious and moralistic.

Meanwhile I am wanting a ‘fascist’ gif to post here. Because all I hear in my head when they say ‘fascist’ is Rik.

Hyperbole away.

AlisonDonut · 24/09/2022 18:31

You are at events with fascists so what does that make you?

Still can't see it eh?

Also, if a man gets beaten badly enough to give him brain damage by 'antifa' who exactly is the fascist in this scenario?

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 18:31

I know

I should do a ‘fascist!’ ‘Repent motherfucker’ medley video.

Fascist! Repent motherfucker!
FASCIST! Repent Motherfucker!
FASCIST! REPENT MOTHERFUCKER!!!

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 18:33

Can I get a pig to detect Fascists for tomorrow please?

Or if it was reposted by a fascist, would it become a Fascist pig?

AlisonDonut · 24/09/2022 18:34

What even is a fascist any more?

TinselAngel · 24/09/2022 18:34

SapphosRock · 24/09/2022 17:12

I couldn't get close enough to see for myself, certainly not into the inner circle where Hearts of Oak were doing the live stream set up next to the SFW camera.

Pretty condemning evidence.

Didn't I suggest asking Posie near the beginning of the thread or is my perimenopausal brain playing tricks?

FrippEnos · 24/09/2022 18:35

A fascist appears to be anyone that doesn't agree with left wing bigots.

So there are a lot of fascists out there, some of them are even actual fascists.

But the easy way for a left wing bigot to actually see a fascist would be to look in the mirror.

FrippEnos · 24/09/2022 18:35

its gonna be interesting to see if that one gets deleted.

TheClogLady · 24/09/2022 18:36

AlisonDonut · 24/09/2022 18:34

What even is a fascist any more?

Quite.

it’s so overused that even the sound of the word has ceased to make sense in my brain.

FOJN · 24/09/2022 18:42

What even is a fascist any more?

This is an excellent question. All the people I've seen labelled as fascists are very pro free speech; I didn't think that was a feature of fascism. The left also (conveniently) forgets that fascism originally started with a Marxist. I think authoritarianism is one of the main features of fascism, that can exist at both ends of the political spectrum but is currently most frequently exhibited by the hard left.

All the important words we have for naming oppressive and dangerous political ideologies are being devalued. When real fascists do actually present themselves it will be like the boy who cried wolf and we'll all be screwed.

IcakethereforeIam · 24/09/2022 18:42

I keep reading it as fascia, where wasps were nesting.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 24/09/2022 18:45

This whole thing reminds me of being peripherally involved in organising a GC feminist event a few years ago. A woman bought a ticket who we knew was a TRA, and who had made up lies about the behaviour of attendees at a WPUK event (think that was in Brighton too), I think she'd accused GC women of spitting at TRAs, completely far-fetched. But we didn't stop her and her friend coming in, we weren't concerned that they'd turn us all into TRAs, the hope was that our speakers would give her and her friend food for thought, and that maybe we'd 'turn' her.

I remember something similar, I wonder if it’s the same one? A TRA bought tickets for herself & two friends & kept going on here about how she was ‘looking forward to meeting Mumsnetters’ and how they were going to keep going to the loo during the talks or something like that. I don’t remember anyone suggesting she shouldn’t be allowed to attend.

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 18:45

Fascist! fascist!! Look over there, a fascist!

I might try recommending that as a tactic to those feminists who then appear on a panel with a fascist. Let’s see how credible people consider them then.

I also seriously think that any left wing person who calls any conservative politician or voter a fascist or ‘far right wing’ in the UK probably needs to get out of the country more and visit some actual countries that are far right wing.

I roll my eyes at the hyperbolic language being used. And if feminists who are proud of using that kind of language to describe any politician or voter they disagree with, then maybe they are not presenting the balanced opinions they believe they are.

So, once again. Are you comfortable sappho with that page you linked listing Posie’s sins like that and do you 100% agree with the author of that page.

SapphosRock · 24/09/2022 18:47

Exactly this. It was idiotic of her.

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 18:53

And FFS, what defines a far right group?

Seriously, is there a Brighton feminists handy definer somewhere?

Because, if I am going in to the next event yelling ‘all yous fascists out or I will have my pig chase you off’, I need to know who qualifies.

SapphosRock · 24/09/2022 18:53

This page you mean?

brightonsisters.wordpress.com/differences-of-opinion-between-bwlc-and-kellie-jay-keen/

Yes I'm very comfortable thanks, it is all true and factual. Why would posting factual information about KJK make someone uncomfortable?

Excellent. You are all comfortable with women’s bodies being potentially exploited in the name of reproductive equality for a start.

I think some of the prominent feminists tend to disagree on that issue if I remember correctly.

But good to know that you support that page and support a woman working for the rights of women and girls being treated this way. Having her sins listed like a heretic. I am surprised, but thanks for admitting it.

I would fucking hate to see what that author supports for someone who is absolutely a fascist, an abuser and someone heavily involved in causing harm for women.

picklemewalnuts · 24/09/2022 19:04

Identity politics.
'I identify her as a witch!'
'She's clearly a fascist!'

I identify as always right, and able to discern the motives of everyone else. It's great, I recommend it.

picklemewalnuts · 24/09/2022 19:04

I saw Goodie Posie suckling cats!

TheClogLady · 24/09/2022 19:05

That’s clearly not true. It would be pugs, not cats!

SapphosRock · 24/09/2022 19:06

@Helleofabore

This is such a weak argument. Even someone having their photo taken while standing and talking to a ‘problematic’ person does not mean that they are aligned.

Really?
