There are rumours circulating on Twitter that Carly-May Kavanagh (the one who screams at babies: Daily Mail) has, despite her “apology” been suspended from the Labour Party. Presumably such a suspension would have an impact on her job as Lloyd Russell-Moyle‘s head of policy?

Apparently if she is suspended it [probably] won’t be made public. Given the reason for her [potential] suspension; if Labour actually do take action, you’d think they’d want to reassure people that they expect their members to uphold certain standards. I mean, “not screaming abuse at infants” is less upholding a standard than it is failing to trip over pebbles of basic decency…

Clearly one cannot put too much weight into Random Person Says Unevidenced Thing. However, it would be a foolish rumour to start without cause, so I thought it was worth starting a thread here to see if there are developments to follow.

Should Kavanagh face consequences for her behaviour it will be a watershed moment: Labour acknowledging women have rights all their own, including the rights to assemble & to speak on issues of concern to them, such as their need for single sex provisions.

Of course, thats what's so great about this forum. If we're not allowed to question one another we all may as well pack up and go home. Or log off and go out.

But why are we bothering?

I don’t really need to “draw the line” between my views and a person like Sargon of Akkad, because if the gulf between them isn’t blindingly flaming obvious, then I’m not explaining myself nearly as well as I want to. I don’t need to go to every fight I’m invited to, and nor does KJK.

I’m genuinely surprised that so many incredibly clever, highly educated women are seemingly unaware of how their own behaviour is a replication of of the TRA behaviour they claim to abhor.

Is this just a natural manifestation of being in agreement with the majority of TRAs on every other issue (the identikit left?) and this reflexively reaching for the same playbook?

I had hoped we were better than that and we had truly learned something from the discombobulating experience of being silenced via ‘the wrong side of history’ ruse…

We can’t ever hope to adequately safeguard kids if we can be cowed into submission with a bit of public shaming based on tired old claptrap like guilt by association.

I support that right too, but am calling out what I see as disingenuity in her arguments.

Despite the protestations she seems to be pretty much singing from the TRA playbook, and has done the normal TRA thing of diverting a thread about a woman being attacked by TRAs to one where people now feel the need to defend the victim.

From my personal perspective it’s a feature of quite a lot of “the left”, this whole purity spiral, condemning others for “sharing a platform with” someone guilty of wrongthink, and so on.

ImNotGreta or I could just be a female resident of Brighton who would like to see the toxic divisions healed and have respectful dialogue but I know that's much less exciting.

I suppose I had just hoped that anyone who had themselves been bruised by brush with the purity spiral phenomenon would have been, I don’t know.. sort of inoculated(?) against the compulsion to inflict it on others?

This reminds me of something Bev Harris said when being cross examined. The 'anti-trans' accusations thrown out against her/everyone who knows sex is real/immutable/important in policy & law isn't about persuasion or reasoned discussion with a genuine concern about the person accused.

Demanding women 'say the words' to be anointed clean or unclean isn't about any active deeds that tackle the issue at hand. It's about the left wing playbook that shuts down discussion - as said already, the TRA didn't invent these tactics. They're not that clever. Using these tactics on women via guilt by wafer thin guilt by association smears has zero to do with genuinely seeking discussion to resolve a pressing issue. It's about controlling the narrative, shutting down 'wrong think' (even if there's been a bad faith take on what's been said), and cowing others into silence when someone is made an example of.

It's exhausting watching all of this. I can't fathom how anyone copes with more than 5 minutes being in any room for political reasons when the demands start flowing before any dialogue starts.

Yes.. the issues brought up on that web page and just the action of listing of sins there seem to be ignored. I find the act of ignoring it while declaring others are extreme in their defence when it is merely women saying ‘fuck off and stop censuring us’ to be rather hypocritical.
