Carly-May Kavanagh

There are rumours circulating on Twitter that Carly-May Kavanagh (the one who screams at babies: Daily Mail) has, despite her “apology” been suspended from the Labour Party. Presumably such a suspension would have an impact on her job as Lloyd Russell-Moyle‘s head of policy?

Apparently if she is suspended it [probably] won’t be made public. Given the reason for her [potential] suspension; if Labour actually do take action, you’d think they’d want to reassure people that they expect their members to uphold certain standards. I mean, “not screaming abuse at infants” is less upholding a standard than it is failing to trip over pebbles of basic decency…

Clearly one cannot put too much weight into Random Person Says Unevidenced Thing. However, it would be a foolish rumour to start without cause, so I thought it was worth starting a thread here to see if there are developments to follow.

Should Kavanagh face consequences for her behaviour it will be a watershed moment: Labour acknowledging women have rights all their own, including the rights to assemble & to speak on issues of concern to them, such as their need for single sex provisions.

Yes arabella why are we being slagged off it’s bonkers. We are all different but this thing that’s brings us together. Is the thing. That we protect children and vulnerable people. Not cos of our politics

SapphosRock · 23/09/2022 22:01

I don't think any feminists are trying to silence other women.

I do think Brighton feminists avoided the SFW event as they thought it was Posie Parker coming to Brighton to cause a big ruckus. Which it was.

Helen Saxby is now moaning online because a "right wing" had a camera filming her speaking. Helen clearly wasn't bothered enough at the time to question the person in front of her with a camera,

littlbrowndog · 23/09/2022 22:04

Och sapphos. Just that. Them statements are so far adrift from ordinary woman like me.

seems like only educated women are fit to be allowed into whatever you are doing

I think it's fair to be upset that one of the two cameras in front of you on tripods was streaming to 2000 viewers of a far right British Nationalist group on Gettr without your knowledge.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 23/09/2022 22:09

Yes i agree sly

I don't know much about haranguing babies, but I do know the Labour Party and I cannot begin to get over the cringe that is Russell-Moyle having a Head of Policy.

He's a bog-standing, pretty bloody awful co-op MP. As an MP RLM is funded to have caseworkers, who are tasked with supporting constituents of all voting patterns and none, including waiting an hour on the phone to an energy company to negotiate keeping the lights on.

Who does he think he is, Lyndon B. Johnson?

ArabellaScott · 23/09/2022 22:19

By all means discuss politics, etc. But insults are unnecessary.

I could feel moved to put in a complaint about how damn noisy it is in this 'echo chamber', though.

We get it, the left fucking hate women, they hate women with opinions even more and they wish death to women who won't be shamed back into line.

Erm no. The left hate racism and fascism and will therefore avoid events that welcome and are attended by racists and fascists. Even if they agree with the event organiser on a different issue.

The Left are the ones behaving like fascists, racists and homophobes -suggest they put their own house in order, or are you saying they stayed away because they knew that is exactly what the TRA protesters were?

You can still be on the left and be a bigot.

bigot

a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

The left that you are defending are doxing people, calling for there deaths and threatening rape. It makes them sound very much like the racists and fascists that they hate.

"I have watched with increasing dismay as large chunks of the now so called gender critical movement have broken off into a mass, populist affair, in thrall to the cult of personality and ready to bat eyes at anyone offering crumbs of attention. Racists, anti-abortionists, religious fundamentalists, thugs: all are welcome so long as they are prepared to adhere to the one and only principle. So called allies can spew bile about immigrants and single mothers all day long so long as they are prepared to say men aren’t women.”

The forced imposition of Trans ideology effects women from all walks of life.

Including (gasp!) racists, anti-abortionists, and religious fundamentalists. They are people who have children they don’t want brainwashed as well, they have boundaries, they also need rape crisis centres and domestic violence shelters and single sex wards. Whether left wing feminists like it or not, these are people that also have opinions on this matter and they’re allowed to be heard too. No-platforming and denouncing people for having the wrong opinions is largely how we got into this mess in the first fucking place. Honestly it is authoritarian bullshit like this that is turning people away from the left in droves.

I’ve also yet to hear an explanation as to how, at an open air event where anyone can turn up, you are supposed to stop people from attending whose politics and opinions you find abhorrent. And also where do you draw the line?

If this effects all women, then why are only women in academia and left wing politics and trade unionism the only people allowed to be activists.

I also think it’s hilarious that a bunch of alleged racist thugs who rocked up on the day, that nobody knew from Adam, managed to conduct themselves like civilised human beings in public but the Right Side of History(TM) gang screamed abuse at a man and an infant, had 3 of their number arrested (one of whom had a bag of knives) and threw a bunch of glitter into a black woman’s hair.

Well said.

I agree that Tatchell has in the past made some very bold and brave protests. While also remaining aware of some of the appalling things he's said.

Thank you Arabella. That was the point I was making.

Hepwo · 23/09/2022 22:56

You chopped out most of my post written in response to Jeni Harvey asking if no one thought to ask who was filming. The people now complaining about being filmed did not think to ask.

Jeni is of course searching for someone else to blame for not thinking to ask, and definitely not the person now complaining about not liking who was behind the camera they stood voluntarily talking to without thinking to ask.

lifeturnsonadime · 23/09/2022 23:51

I know I am going to come across really naive here but what's with the fighting amongst people who believe that sex is real?

This plays into the hands of the TRAS doesn't it? I just don't get it.

Helleofabore · 24/09/2022 00:03

That Sarah Ditum tweet is a real piece of work. The ratio is remarkable though. And most at the replies are very politely saying ‘no. You’ve gone too far. You don’t speak for me.’

This week has been disappointing in the sneering and derision thrown towards Kellie Jay Keen and women not fitting into a particular mould.

What a week! And yet, the same women being caught in the derision leveled at KJK in this recent poundshop tweet by Sarah Ditum are the ones funding crowdfunder after crowdfunder. That Sarah Ditum tweet had no support from the replies I read. That was eye opening to see. Tweet after tweet expressing disappointment.

What a shame that some feminists have decided to show they are very particular about just which women they support.

Good to know. I now have a better idea which prominent women I would approach if I needed support. It isn’t the one declaring their purity. It isn’t the ones declaring who women should or shouldn’t listen or talk to.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 24/09/2022 00:06

Did any of these 'good natured' TRAs who were protesting do what you insist Posie should have done and found out who these black pampers/CMK were and ask that they remove themselves, point out they don't want them representing them?

This is an excellent point.

Me neither.

Slagging off a woman because you think she has viewpoints different to you, on an issue entirely unconnected to the one she's campaigning on, seems pointless at best and indefensibly nasty at worst.

I honestly don't know what the point is.

It's never, ever going to be the process by which the person achieves the moral high ground, and they will offend tons and tons of ordinary women as a result of the attempt.

TheBiologyStupid · 24/09/2022 00:55

ArabellaScott · 23/09/2022 21:57

The thing is that some feminists can denounce other women, but it isn't actually going to stop other women from talking about all this, is it?

There are too many of us to fit us all in one neat box. All backgrounds, all cultures.

Absolutely!.Free speech and disagreements are inevitable bedfellows if you permit the first of those two things. And we definitely should!
