Not all Menstruators Menstruate

MauisLeftNipple · 07/09/2022 06:29

Seen on a FB group about reusable sanitary products, now renamed Sustainable Menstruators.

Admin is explaining how she has made the group more inclusive with the use of Menstruators, even if "not all menstruators bleed and not all menstruators menstruate."

I can't keep up. What the biscuit is a Menstruator when it's at home?

Surely you can't be called a menstruator if you don't menstruate? That'd be like me calling myself a bus driver, even though I don't drive buses!!

Zuyi · 07/09/2022 06:36

What kind of person doesn't bleed? 😱

bellinisurge · 07/09/2022 06:39

I make reusables and buy them for my daughter. There are plenty of other sellers who don't use this pathetic, fetishistic language.

MauisLeftNipple · 07/09/2022 06:52

I'm menstruating today but it should be over by the weekend. But is it a "once a Menstruator always a Menstruator" situation?

Someone has asked for clarification, while someone else has stated that it's a very offensive term. Getting my popcorn ready....

I don't think she's quite got the hang of this, has she. Shes learned that it's verboten to say 'women' but not why or how and ends up posting nonsense.

Sounds really annoying. I don't think I'd want posts from a group like that on my feed tbh.

deeperthanallroses · 07/09/2022 07:00

Sounds like my primary aged child trying to get this right but just not getting it.

bellinisurge · 07/09/2022 07:05

@MauisLeftNipple when you aren't menstruating, you are a non-man. Or a person with a cervix.
Get it right.

Skelligsfeathers · 07/09/2022 07:14

But even if you don't drive buses surely you have the right to be called a bus driver? If you really want to be a bus driver? You might have bought a cap and a ticket machine and find ut really hurtful and excluding when bus drivers talk about their experience of rush hour traffic. " bytvi gave a cap! And a ticket machine!"
Hateful bastards. How dare they talk about the a66?

MauisLeftNipple · 07/09/2022 07:30

Admin has asked whether she should change Menstruators to uterus-owners. She is deadly serious.

The other thing is, as an inclusive group it also welcome friends of people with a cervix/uterus/menstrual powers. I've only just clicked this today (it used to have "and Companions" in the title and I stupidly thought Companions meant companion products, not Companions of people who used reusable menstrual products). It seems there are Companions who are definitely unable to have a period.

I am very definitely leaving the group, can't be dealing with this nonsense.

Yet more making language utterly meaningless.

If not all 'menstruators' bleed, what then is the definition of menstruator/menstruation? (Not that I'd ever heard the term menstruator till very recently, but still let's play with it). Maybe it is someone who wishes they did but doesn't - someone who believes having a period is cramping, digestive upsets, eating ice cream while watching weepy movies, perhaps? Or even someone who raids sanitary bins for used products, known to us here as menophiles but perhaps they have been 'menstruators all along? Who knows?

As we say repeatedly, all humans and any species with a blood circulation will bleed if you cut them

What's a 'sustainable menstruator'? The product is the sustainable thing here, not the person using it.

That group admin is an idiot.

RocketPanda · 07/09/2022 07:34

Looking at this from another angle, the bullying harassment and intimidation of the TRA mob is so strong and destructive that products made for women and girls cannot be named as so. The police investigate stickers and speaking untoward when it comes from women and ignore death threats and stalking.

Runningintolife · 07/09/2022 07:48

Hmm is it four legs good two legs bad, or.. What was it again? What are the masters telling us?

(Technically I think I was menstruating without bleeding when I had my womb removed but kept my cervix and ovaries. But I don't think that's the issue here.)

WeeBisom · 07/09/2022 08:11

That’s actually kind of impressive, the sheer destruction of meaning in language. Because reading that, I have no idea who a “menstruator” is or what “menstruation” even is!

I’’m on contraception which stops me menstruating (in the old fashioned sense of the term). So I guess I’m not a menstrustor ? But then… am I a menstruator without bleeding ? How would I know ?

Heh; now I want to set up a group for “ejaculators” with the headline “not all ejaculators ejaculate, and not all ejaculations involve semen”.

Oh. I think you're right re people who wish they were Menstruators.

This was a useful group until now.

I am so disappointed in my fellow women 😥

i was just thinking of this re dd

im perimenapausal and i can go months without a period

im a part time menstruater 🤔 and a full time ‘pissed off with all this utter bollocks’

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 07/09/2022 08:20

thing is sometimes people honestly think they are doing the right thing….they just don’t think it through or do any research

just take things at face value

Choconut · 07/09/2022 08:26

Maybe she's seen a gap in the market? Menstruators that don't menstruate? She could call them men-struators, or just 'men' for short....

MagpiePi · 07/09/2022 08:27

I find terms like 'cervix-haver' or 'uterus-owner' very creepy.

It makes me imagine someone bringing out a gruesome specimen jar while screaming "Look!! Look at my cervix! It's mine, and it means I'm a woman!"

silverclock222 · 07/09/2022 08:29

I no longer menatruate although I used to. Can't think why I would ever need to be on a FB group for it.

'menstrual powers'?
WTAF are they?! Grin

PuttingDownRoots · 07/09/2022 08:35

Just follow the supermarket example and call them reusable period products or sustainable period products?

I know the supermarkets changed the name as "feminine hygiene" was considered discrimatory apparently but it is at least clear language (in fact clearer language than the old one!)

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 07/09/2022 08:39

doesnt have to be gruesome

you could probably decorate it with glitter and ribbon and stuff

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 07/09/2022 08:39

Or that decoupage thingy

Carrotzen · 07/09/2022 08:44

I think what confuses me is the title suggests you could be a menstruator who menstruates but doesn't bleed. How does that work?

Or actually a menstruator who bleeds but doesn't menstruate but still classifies as a menstruator. If you are bleeding and it's not menstruation probably should get that checked out

Horrified scream at the word “period”.
